Great designed bag for the right uses.

This is a well designed bag with good features. I especially like the cinch strap across the top and the optional drawstring closure. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it feels almost TOO heavy a fabric for it's use case. When it isn't completely full it's hard to pack down because the fabric is VERY stiff. I'm sure it will last for many years. I also purchased it for use as a personal item for air travel and it's a little too big for that (but that isn't the bag's fault, just letting folks know).

Great Storage Bag for Indoor Gym Climbing

I actually bought this bag for indoor climbing. It is amazing, cuz it can hold my 40m climbing rope, 2 climbing shoes, chalk, and 1 harnesses. Its dang handy for quick packups and small moves between routes indoors.

Well built tote bag with a few suggestions

I have been using hospital issued totes when my kids were born. Fast forward 7 years, I came to realize I needed something simple and robust to use for soccer, groceries, swimming, etc and this tote is amazing for what I need. The only opportunity I feel that REI missed was with all that space on the sides where they could have placed an extra pocket on one side and daisy chain webbing on the other side to add more function and storage possibilities. Maybe also a small interior pocket with a velcro flap to hide phones and wallets. Otherwise, it's a great tote

The New "Big Dog" Of The Pack!

With more and more people going plastic-bagless, more and more people are buying these totes instead. Up until now, the breed leaders were Yeti, Patagonia and Cotopaxi, IMO. But this new Tote from REI just simply out-performs those other totes, and at a price that is irresistable! Unlke Patagonia and Cotopaxi, the REI Tote has a reinforced bottom, ending insightly "bag sag"; and unlike all of them, the REI tote has a drawstring cover, capable of maintaining privacy and keeping rain and dirt OUT and cooling IN. My wife will use this at the grocery store, to keep stuff cool/cold on the drive home. We aren't beach goers, but will use this for our climbing gear at the gym and the crag. I only with REI would offer this tote in at least one joyful colorway.

great for transporting gear

Received free product

Item is just as described. It fits perfectly behind the seat of my car. I have a 2010 Toyota Prius and even with the seat all the way back it fits. The flat bottom allows the bag to expand and sit well without falling over. There is an inner lining that pulls out and has a cinch-strap that can hold gear in & keep water and dirt out - it also allows you to really fill the bag without worrying about anything falling out. The side pockets also provide storage for smaller things that are easy to reach. It's also comfortable to carry. I definitely recommend this bag.

Please Don't Discontinue!

I was using big Ikea style reusable totes to haul my MTB gear in, and my fiance had one of these for her gear. I got one too and we love them. So much we got another one for the dogs stuff when we travel. It's sad that everytime I think REI (and other brands) get a product RIGHT, they go and discontinue it. Grab one of these at this price before they are gone. Way better than a duffle or reusable grocery sack in my opinion, and they hold a ton.

Amazing “Mom” Bag!

I got this bag for traveling with my 1-year old and love it! I was looking for something I could have open for airplane travel to stuff things in, including his bottle cooler. I love that the top could cinch shut all the way and you can secure the two sides at the top with the side cinch. The side pockets fit a standard slim 32oz water bottle or his straw cup. It does fit under the airplane seat if you can smoosh the top down. Excited for taking this both in the car and on more airplane trips!

just right

Great for car camping. The car feels more organized and less time is spent hunting around inside the bag. We camped across country a year ago, these would have been perfect! In between trips, I keep mine packed as a go bag. Not sure why such a basic cubic bag is so good, but as soon as I saw it online last spring, I knew exactly what I was spending my dividend on. My partner was skeptical, but we weren't even out the door when he decided to go back for his own. Off to pack for some rainy November days on the Washington coast.

Very sturdy and practical

I just picked this up with my rei dividend and am beginning to use it; as a general tote for now. I purchased it specifically to carry groceries for trips. It is large, sturdy, well made and thoughtfully crafted. I especially appreciate the top closure to keep things from spilling out as we rummage through the vehicle when traveling.

Awesome simple tote

This tote is simple but awesome. I use it for work, travel, And even getting groceries/food. It is large enough for anything I want to do and I love the synch cover that goes over it. The only thing I would add to this bag would be side pockets with in the bag. But the pockets on the side are larger than they look, they can fit multiple water bottles as well as a phone or wallet.
