Busted a zipper, other than that it's pretty good

I broke a zipper on mine after under a year. Still deciding if I want to exchange or try something a bit larger. Overall this is pretty nice. It rides nice and I like the bladder hose design. I ride park DH with this and the hose does not shake loose. A do have a few issues which may pertain to you: 1. It needs a small inner pocket that closes somehow (velcro...) to keep a multitool sealed in and not bouncing around. 2. Phone pocket is a bit small for phones these days. iphone pro max does not fit. 3. Bottom straps need a buckle on them so you can disconnect and weave them through straps on knee/elbow pads. Right now you just tighten them and hope for the best. I lost an elbow pad due to this. 4. You aren't fitting a shell in here if the bladder is full. It reduces quite a bit of space in the main compartment. I usually roll it up and strap it to the outside. So, overall it is a decent design. Personally I need something a little bigger to take it on long rides I want full water, food and where rain is a possibility.

Better be skinny little person to use this

Great pack, nice quality, good features and construction. Except... The waist strap is REALLY short. I mean, you had better have <32" waist to use this, or it simply will NOT fit. I am 6'3" with a 36" waist and the waist strap is easily 4" too short at full extension. Customer service is lacking as well, I emailed Dakine asking for an extension, or even asking for matching buckles so I could make my own, and got no reply. I'll be returning this and getting an Osprey, because it's absolutely unsusable for me, Which I find disappointing since I used to live in Hawaii and had a favorable opinion of Dakine products. Be sure to try it on first before ordering, unless you are a smaller person.

Great little pack!

Absolutely love this pack! I can fit everything I need for a short ride, and a long one. The hydration bladder and tube work great and having the outside straps allows for a light hoodie or rain jacket to be brought along when needed. The style looks great as well, not too bulky.

Great design, great quality

Great thoughtful design, and really good quality. 2L water blader is sufficient enouogh to keep most ppl hydrated under reasonable conditions for a day. I ended up returning this item, because I did not realize how much stuff I tend to cary on my rides, and not all of it could fit in the waistpack. Bummer it did not work out for me, because this waistpack looks like a great alternative to a backpack.

Awesome

Plenty of pockets for fuel and tools but light enough for racing. Love this pack and appreciate the hip pocket for quick access when I need it. I bought this because I like having weight closer to my center of gravity, but nice to combine it with a hydration backpack for longer rides. Never seems to get dirty...

Cool pack, but the bladder tastes HORRIBLE!

While I like the look (i got the faded camo pattern) the bladder tastes HORRIBLE! I've cleaned it, drained it, now it's in the freezer. It may be unusable for me. I've had Platypus and Camelback and never remember the taste being so strong and bad. Will likely need to buy another bladder so I can actually use it as a hydration pack. Now it's just a cool medium big fanny pack.

Love the bag, water reservoir needs improvement

The bag itself is great. It can hold snacks, a spare tube and tire levers, a mini pump or shock pump, a multi tool, a phone and some other stuff easily. If you use the water reservoir it obviously takes up some space but it’s still holds plenty. Major kudos to Dakine for adding compression straps to the sides and bottom. The only thing that keeps this setup from being a 5/5 is the included water reservoir. There’s nothing wrong with the reservoir itself but the hose doesn’t have a quick disconnect and that makes it awkward to get the reservoir in the bag or to remove it to refill. I bought a quick disconnect and attached it just far enough that the quick disconnect is outside the bag when attached. That way I can disconnect my hose and attach it directly to a gravity filter or at bare minimum make it far easier to remove the reservoir from the bag without having to thread the entire hose through the slit in the side of the bag.

Great water pack but bad tasting water initially

I love that I can have 2 liters of water in a pack on my waist instead of on my back. Very comfortable, and the extra storage and pockets it has are a bonus. The only dowside has been that since the bag is new, the water tasted Horrible the 2 times I have used it. I did clean it before using it, but hopefully with some additional cleaning some tablets it will get better.

Dakine Hot Laps 5

I was looking for a pack of to carry a few essentials and some more water, since I can only carry a small bottle in my frame cage. It is way more comfortable than a back pack which I use on long day outings.

great pack. older bladder version.

Purchased for mountain biking local trails. really like design and size but bladder appeared to be an older version without the quick-release where the hose connects to the bladder. Therefore had to return. This quick release hose makes cleaning the bladder and hose much easier and looks to be included on currently sold Dakine bladders.
