WAY too small
I love Prana and have several of their hiking pants in size 8. After reading reviews on these shorts I sized up from my normal size in other Prana bottoms and got a 10. They won’t even remotely button they are so small. I would have needed to go from an 8 to maybe a 12 or bigger for them to fit. Love the material, was super excited to get these for summer hiking but am going to have to return. Would likely have been a 5 star pair if they actually fit like they should have, I don’t think I should have to size up two or three sizes from other Prana pants for them to fit. Super bummed. If you are looking to buy these I’d recommend sizing up two sizes.
Pilled after one wear
This was my first experience with Prana and I loved how comfortable the shorts are but they pilled after one wear. I do not have my receipt so neither REI nor Prana will replace them. I thought maybe I just got a bad pair but other reviews say otherwise. Stay away!
flattering and durable but runs a size small
These are flattering and durable but I had to go up one size from the PrAna Halle pant, maybe because they don’t have as much stretch but they also kept their shape better after multiple days wearing them backpacking. I had to slide down a steep gravel slope on my bottom and they didn’t show any signs of damage! Also my large iPhone X fit all the way into the back pocket which can zip closed with the phone inside. A big plus for me! Note that the right back pocket has a zipper but the left back pocket has a flap closure. The length is perfect for me as I don’t like really short or Bermuda style. I’m buying both colors and can’t wait for them to come out with more!
Best shorts!
I love these! I have some old cotton prana shorts in size 4, I think Tessas, so I thought these would also fit me in 4. Sizing is way different now though, I would say they are more true to size now because there's no way that I've ever been a size 4. The size 8 fit me perfectly, they're not stretchy but they're not tight on me either, not even while sitting. I'm 5'4" and weigh around 130 with an athletic build. I say try on various sizes and just get them if they fit you and if you love them. It doesn't matter what number is on the tag. I just wish they made them in more colors! I'd love a pair in lavender, rust, and black.
Great shorts besides the pilling
These shorts have been great and I absolutely love the color, but I do have a few issues with them. The big one is pilling! These shorts started pilling after honestly only a few wears, but not enough for me to not wear them. Still for this price point it feels like the material should be able to hold up much better. I also feel like these shorts stretch out incredibly fast; they fit me almost perfectly right after purchasing and shrinking back after being in the dryer, but do stretch out over time of wear. Fortunately they do have a drawstring in the waistband you can tie which does help with this situation. Otherwise, they are incredibly comfortable and flattering, and I have worn them hiking, around town, and mountain biking several times. But for the price point, the material being susceptible to pilling would make me not recommend them.
My go-to shorts for virtually any activity
I own four pairs of these shorts in three colors. The fabric is durable without being overly heavy. There's a bit of stretch, but not so much that they expand and feel loose. They look great after a day of hiking in hot weather (full disclosure: I have worn these shorts straight through multiple-day trips and they look only slightly rumpled), but they're also elegant and (at least for me) dressy. The front pockets are deep enough to actually hold items without worrying they'll fall out, and the zippered rear pockets are great for ensuring you don't lose your car key fob in the middle of the woods. They're also wide enough for my iPhone 12 Pro Max (though it is too tall to fit all the way in). Overall, these shorts are super-comfortable and very well made. I purchased these in size 6; I'm 5'9 and about 150 pounds.
Love these shorts!
I have been on the hunt for the perfect hiking shorts and these meet all my expectations. I would say they run small—I’m usually between a 4 and a 6 depending on the brand, but I ended up going with an 8 since the 6 was still very tight (5’8” 145lbs with athletic build). The 8 is a tiny bit loose in the waist, but there’s a tie for that and belt loops if need be. They’ve got just enough stretch that they’re comfy, but they still look nice and could be worn off the trail too. I wish they came in something other than yellow because I want more, but that’s so not my color haha
Poor quality material
The material pilled in the first wearing and it was a disappointing purchase especially given the price.
Subpar Quality
I love the fit, functionality, and appearance of these shorts. They seem to keep their shape well after multiple wears too. I only wore them around my house for a week and they are already pilled and worn out between the legs. My legs barely touch each other nor have I really walked more than a mile total in these shorts, so it's disappointing to see they won't last long.
The quality of the material is not good
Fit nicely and flattering but the tie ups are not so comfy as you have to untie and tie them up again in bathroom. The meterial starts to wear out in places of contact with backpack after few uses which is not acceptable at this price range. Disappointed:(
