Pretty good shoe
I have been looking at these for a LONG time and found them at REI the other day. I like them, but don't necessarily love them yet. I have a different pair of Xero shoes in a 9 and these are an 8.5 (that was the one pair at REI) and they fit great. You can see how they fit in the photos because they are see through. Overall I like the fit with and without socks. The one thing that I am on the fence about is the top material (the material that you can see through). I don't really know how to explain it, but it folds funny and feels a little strange when I walk. I attached a photo of one foot flat and one bent. In the photo you can see how the material folds. It is not really uncomfortable, but it feels a little strange if you wear them without socks. I am hopeful that this material will soften up a little bit as I wear them. Fingers crossed. But for the top material, then this would be a 5 stars.
LOVE these shoes!
I instantly fell in love with these shoes, from the color, the flexibility, the breathability, and how quick they can dry. They're not only great for just water wear, but work great for hiking in the summer, to urban running shoes as well. They look great to wear any time, with or without socks. My feet usually get hot in the summer, so I don't normally like wearing shoes and stick more to sandals. These are so ventilated that my feet stay cooler, so they end up being super comfortable in hot weather. I actually even wore them some in our southern winter weather with a bit thicker wool socks and they did well too. They can easily be cleaned because they dry quicker and don't take days to dry, so you can wear them sooner. I'm so glad I was able to get a review pair of these from Xero, and will be purchasing another pair when these wear out. I love these, and they are now my new go to casual/running/all-around shoe!
Dual Purpose Shoe
These shoes are both water shoes & hiking shoes! I was looking for new water shoes when I happened upon them. My trip entailed both hiking & kayaking so I thought I’d give them a try. One less pair of shoes to pack. I was reluctant to say the least that the same shoes I would use for kayaking would also be comfortable when hiking the trails & gorges in and around Ithaca, NY. Much to my surprise & delight, they were VERY VERY comfortable!! We walked 24,000 steps one day & never once did my feet feel hot or uncomfortable. No blisters or sore spots. Two great pairs of shoes in one!
Comfy for Water Crossing and Hiking
I think it's the most comfortable Xero shoes besides the Z-Trail. I used it for backpacking that involves a lot of creek crossings and not much elevations. But I wear Xero for hiking, so I'm used to wearing their shoes. Their shoes tend to have low toe box even though it is wide. They tend to make women's shoes with ugly colors - I wish they make them in neutral colors for hiking shoes. I used them as a campsite shoes since it's easy to put it on and off, and in case my hiking boots get wet, I can wear these instead. Order from REI so it's easier to return exchange.
Fabulous multipurpose shoe
Purchased to wear for a trip to DC last summer. I wore these every day walking all over the city for 4 days, averaging around 15,000-20,000 steps a day. There was no break in period needed. I never once had any hot spots. My foot that I broke several years back never hurt. We were rained on and it didn’t matter. My shoes dried quickly. I did wear them with light socks a majority of the time. I wish they made this same shoe with a tie option because I’d purchase them to exercise in if they did. My feet were cool and comfortable the entire trip! These were the perfect light weight, breathable, barefoot “tennis” shoe.
Amazing outdoor or indoor shoes!
My husband and I both tried out the new water shoes as a free sample before they were released. Because we live in Michigan, testing out water shoes in February was going to be difficult! I love wearing inside shoes or slippers to keep my feet warm all the time, so I decided to start wearing the water shoes as inside shoes. With socks, they actually absolutely added warmth to my feet and felt so comfortable sometimes I forgot I was wearing them. I'm a huge fan of multipurpose items, so I'm very happy to report that the water shoes do well (not just well, fabulously!) as indoor shoes, and I'm planning to wear them as my normal tennis shoes all summer long. The flexible sole and zero rise heel-to-toe means that my posture isn't impacted by poor footwear, and as a busy mom I love that they're so easy to get on and off. I also got to test them on some rocky hikes over a number of miles, and they held up really well. I felt supported and also loved that I could feel the ground through the shoes so I knew what I was dealing with when rocks would shift. The water shoes are fabulous, super breathable, and not one negative things to say about them. Wish you could get the teal color here at REI because I'm a huge an of that too!
Instant Return :(
***Do not order directly from Xero shoes or you’ll end up paying $15 to try on a pair if you don’t like them.*** And then, they take 10 business days to return your money (minus $9.99 shipping and whatever additional $5.49 fee they decided to deduct). I tried them on in my living room for less than two minutes before carefully re-wrapping them just as they came. If you do purchase buy them at REI. Things to note from instant observation and not from daily use: 1. They run very small. I’m a women’s 6.5-7. In these shoes I’m a 7.5-8. I ordered a 7 and my feet were jammed into the toe of the shoe. 2. The material in the Aqua X shoe is very rough and walking or running in it would’ve resulted in blisters and/or abrasions very quickly. I wanted them off of my feet as soon as I put them on. I was considering trying other shoe model options but after the all around poor experience, I’m out.
Never again
I have had these shoes for about 2 months. I have worn then a total of 10 times. I have worn them in a pool setting with my dog and while washing my car, I have not worn them in any lakes or rivers and yet these shoes started to stink behind any smell I have ever smelled. I washed them multiple times, I soaked them multiple times. I could not get the smell out. I also got athletes foot for the first time ever about a week after the last time I wore them. I had a different pair water shoes for over 6 years and I never experienced any of these problems.
So happy I tried these
I originally purchased these for kayaking. I wanted something that would dry quickly. Not only do they do that, they are also super comfortable, breathable, and the lugs on the bottom make getting in/out of the water easier. No worries about slipping. I like them so much that I have also been using them to take my dog for a walk. The soles really help with the impact of walking on concrete. Bonus: no wearing in period. Comfy right out of the box.
Don't waste your money.
Outta the box seemed cheap and not likely to be durable, but didn't have to find out. The soles are made of hard, cheap, slick plastic that's VERY slippery on surfaces other than carpet and sand. If you want to have some traction on pebbles, rocks, even asphalt and cement, these shoes aren't worth fifty cents.
