Issues with top. Poor CS
As others have mentioned the top pops off. I contacted AM and they asked me about my purchase—location etc—but haven’t gotten back to me in a couple months. The good news is that I figured out a work around for the people like me who are stuck with table. You can take the Velcro that holds the top rolled up and twist it so it goes around the legs. Do it on the side that typically pops up and that should fix the problem. I eventually bought a piece of Velcro to attached it to the opposite side of the strap and now I don’t need to twist it to make it work. I am pretty bummed out that I have to do all of this to get a $50 table to function…
Broken seam right out of the package.
Fabric was stripped out of the seam right out of the package. Everything is single stitched. There is nothing securing the top to the base. It just sits in a small slot. One little bump from beneath and anything sitting on the table is going on the ground.
Easy to carry, stiffer top than I expected.
This is exactly what I thought it would be except that the fabric surface is a little stiffer than I imagined. I don't think that I'd put a fountain drink on it unless it had a wide base, but it's great for anything that won't easily tip over. I'm not sure why some people were having problems with it. The only thing that comes to mind is that there are a couple of supports that need to be locked in place before you put on the reinforced fabric top, and if those aren't inserted correctly then I could see how it might collapse. It's really easy to carry to the beach to keep your belongings from getting covered in sand.
Decent table, but not perfect
Decent table, but not perfect. I use mine for car and motorcycle camping. It packs pretty small, long but skinny. Won't fit in my motorcycle drybag (too long), but straps easily to the top off it. Sometimes I worry about bending it when cinching it down, but so far so good after ~5 trips. It's light for a table of it's size (big). Setup is easy once you know how. Others complain of build quality issues, but mine is good. All seams are good and poles click into place properly/securely. It's a good height for standard camp chairs. I can reach it easily without bending over too far or getting up. It's pretty big (bigger than I actually want), so it holds lots of stuff (too much sometimes!). I've had two helmets, magazines, snacks, waterbottles... all at the same time. The table rods are sturdy, but the fabric does sit lower than them and have enough pliability that items that don't span across two rods (or sit between them) will be leaning over. Nalgene bottles will fall over every time. Jetboils have the same problem. My quick solution was to use my magazine (or cardboard or other flat pad) to create a stable platform for these items. Initially I was going to return it for it's soft surface, but after having used it a few more times and found an easy solution, it's grown into a very useful camp tool.
Nifty lightweight Unit
Much to like about this table. It packs up nicely and is a fairly reasonable addition to a weekend backpacking foray. Assembles quickly and easily. Provides a surprisingly spacious flat space above the ground. Finding it helpful both on the trail and in car camp. That said, this is in no way a heavy-duty piece. Kinda fragile. Weight capacity isn't a strong point. It is fairly stable but needs a flat spot to start with. A fair gust of wind can send it tumbling. It's not fire-resistant, so not the best choice for setting up a stove. But I like it and will continue to use it. There always seems to be a good use for it, and its light weight and compact packed size aren't a burden.
don't waste your time
The design requires precise table top size to go together. It was made a fraction too narrow and will not go together. If one manages to get it there, it pops out again almost immediately. Were the width correct, it would go in, but then, there is no keeper to prevent it from coming out with items on the table. Comes in a long slender bag, and just barely fits into it, making returning it to the bag an annoying chore. An extra quarter of an inch in circumference would relieve all the stress. It isn't usable., Returning.
The design is flawed, but found a fix
I too had the same issue as many others, one side would always pop out once all four corners were inserted. The tolerances are too loose, and the metal against the plastic would just slide out. I added on layer of electric tape to each section of the table top that inserts. This created a friction surface as well as tightened the slot tolerance. Worked well so far. Still would not recommend this table to others simply because of this issue. Would be nice if Alps recognized this themselves.
Great light weight table
Im so glad I didn’t listen to the bad reviews. I’m sure those reviews were people incorrectly putting the table together. There are little “nipples” that have to align with the support bar for proper tension. I am able to grab the table top and give it a little shake and it still didn’t come apart. Obviously this is not meant for super heavy duty activities. You can enjoy a nice game of cards, meal with drinks or even light food prep. Super light for its size.
Great table
I saw the review and was skeptical, but after receiving I had no issues assembling it and can only assume people didn't notice the table top has to be snapped in with flat edges on the side. I am easily able to carry this on the outside of my pack and glad I went with the bigger table over other competitors at this great price.
Not sturdy
Same issue as the other one star where table pops out with a bit of weight on it. No bag issue not fitting though.
