Love the tap, not sold on the shape.

Overall, this thing is good. 3L size is good for day trips and backpacking. I was attracted to this reservoir because of the tap/spout feature that allows you to refill your bottles, rinse your hands, put some water in your pot for cooking. This feature works great! The back of the reservoir is rigid enough it holds its shape well, and the detachable hose is a must-have feature for me as well. However, compared to their other 3L, I have to say I personally prefer the longer shape compared the shorter/fatter shape of this one. I want the weight of the water to be distributed along the length of my back ; I don't want to make my pack top heavy by placing this full of water on top. I also found that because it is "fatter", that I had a harder time fitting this into the reservoir slot in my pack. Yes, ideally I would fill the reservoir and put it in my bag before it is fully loaded, but there are times where I need to pump some water and not take everything out. It was a bit of more of a struggle compared to my last reservoir, and left me a bit frustrated... I'm still on the fence about returning it because of the shape. Can you just make the tap a standard feature???

Hydrate with toxic sludge? No thanks.

Design seems smart, but the taste is terrible, even after a couple rinses. I'd have to be REALLY parched to drink out of this bladder. this sucker is getting returned.

Great hydration reservoir for backpacking

I love this version of Gregory 3L bladder. The unique round shape helps it fit better, and now I can use it with the packs where the traditional size 3L bladders didn't work. For example, I would not use a bladder with my backpacking pack before because I have to carry a bear canister, and those two would not fit together inside. The bladder was always squished or too bulky on top of the load, and I would opt out for just bringing water bottles instead. This bladder's shape allows the perfect fit inside the pack with the canister. It also fits nicely on top of the load. In addition, it fits my Miwok 12 pack's hydration compartment where the normal 3L bladder was too large to fit. I also love the magnetic bite valve. It keeps the hose tightly in place.

Great shape for a 3L

I love the design of this reservoir! The shorter and wider design make it perfect for day packs, or to sit on top of a larger bag, like a 60L. It's a tight fit in my older model Maya 22L, but it does fit. The handle is awesome for easy filling. My only small complaint would be that the dust cover would be a bit more convenient if it were tethered to the reservoir in some way so that it doesn't get misplaced or fall in the dirt. Base camp mode is awesome for filling up dog water bowls or for cooking purposes. The reservoir is sturdy without being overly heavy compared to other models of hydration reservoirs. I was lucky enough to receive this reservoir to test in exchange for my honest review.

Disappointed with sturdiness

We really like the overall design of this bladder. The shape for laying on top of gear in a backpack makes the weight + access ideal for backpacking, the handle was surprisingly useful, the hang loop and nozzle were great for hanging around camp and using for washing dishes/filling pots/etc. However, the stiffer plastic, which seemed useful at first, produced obvious stress points near joints, and our bladder sprung a leak within a couple months of purchase despite our care. We know that bladders are generally fragile and require some babying, but this felt very quick.

Useful but not functional

This product is unique compared to other reservoirs with similar styles. With its oval shape and large grab handle it functions as intended. The reservoir seems to be slightly thicker than others which makes it very steady and useful for solar shower applications as it can withstand abrasions. Included in the kit there is webbing with a buckle clip to secure it onto a tree branch for shower applications or water filtration. Main reason I gave this unique reservoir three stars is due to the odd shape. Most packs won’t support this in their hydration compartment sleeves. Thus having to be carried in the brain of a pack or main compartment. That would be my only negative. Otherwise it’s a great durable water carrying option.

Best Reservoir Out There!!!!

This product is amazing! The handle makes it so easy to fill, the feature on the cap that lets you pour water is super helpful for cooking camp meals, and you can tell that the quality is top notch. Definitely worth the price! I've never seen a reservoir thats wide like this one, but I'll never look back. Fits great in my Osprey Daylight Plus for a day trip or right on top of my 60L Gregory pack for longer trips. The shape makes it super convenient to plop right on top of large packs, no more hassling with getting a reservoir into the sleeve in the back of a full pack. Could not recommend this enough!

It’s fine

Comments on Gregory Not a huge fan of how the bite valve feels. The handle is great when filling the bladder with water and I like the flat side of the bladder. The bladder doesn’t fit in every pack though. The cap and the magnetic mouth piece seems really easy to lose. The fillport cap is fairly heavy. I don’t need it, so for backpacking it’s a bit heavy. The base camp tap is awkward to use. Unless I’m hanging it directly in front of the tree trunk, I have to hold the bladder from moving, push up the spout, and hold my water bottle at the same time. It also seems like a quick place to fail, but it hasn’t so far.

Great for camping and the trails

This is a really great combo reservoir — working really great at the campsite, but also in a bag when on a hike or bike ride. My favorite feature is the little spigot under the cap. Perfect for filling up water bottles or my Jetboil at the campsite or at the back of my car, without spilling and making a mess. And it's got holes on both end that you can throw an s-biner on to hang at your camp kitchen. When you're ready for a hike, you just put the tube on and throw it in your bag. Haven't had any leaking, and after an initial wash I haven't noticed any plastic taste.

Decent Bladder Works well for most users

This was a decent bladder and I think it would work well for most folks. I have an ultralight backpack though and when it was running low i could feel the handles and stuff in my back since my backpack doesnt have much cushioning. They suggest having this on top of your bag, which would alleviate the issue but that not where most people keep them. For my ultralight back i count on the bladder to be a bit of my cushioning. Most ultralight folks wouldnt even use a bladder but i dont drink enough water if i do that so i prefer the bladder. I also use the bladder to supply the folks in my group with water in camp.

Great for What it is

Bought this as a larger reservoir for long backpacking days. I have been quite impressed with the seal and the quality of life features, specifically the spigot that is in the sealing lid. With the dust cap I am never worried of it opening. I also love the way they did the detachable hose. Purchasers need to understand this is a large reservoir and it will be floppy unless you pack it correctly. I wouldn't see the benefit of a frame sheet for this, however It can shift and ruin the pack balance.
