best I’ve found

I was just reading people’s reviews as I was purchasing a couple more masks. I will be using them for Ski Patrol. I have been using them for several months. Firstly if you actually look the fabric alone is two layers not one. You cal actually pull the fabric layers apart. So please people tell it like it is. Second without going into a lengthy explanation regarding efficacy of masks, any mask is better than none. Yes surgical masks are best for general population. However given the overall comfort and ability to add the filter makes this my go to. I have found the filter insert as others have pointed out to be lacking to a degree. I found pushing the filter “inside out” if you will made the seam of the filter a bit sturdier and helped keep the filter in place. I only use the filter in certain circumstances and being outdoors is not one of them. The shape and coverage is superior to other masks. There are no gaps on my face. I’m in a nurse. I understand masks. This is a good one pricy or otherwise. Take my comment for what it is. I will buy more.

Huge Design Flaw - Don't Buy.

I cannot fathom why anyone would give this more than one star. What you can’t see from the packaging until you open it is that there is no pocket for the filter. The filter is only held in on the ends by about 1.5” of overlapping fabric on each end. This creates several problems. 1. Whenever you take the mask off, the filter catches (typically on my scruff) and literally pulls right out and falls on the floor. Any friction between your face and the filter (including a little sweat) and the filter falls out when you remove the mask. 2. The filter is pressed directly against your skin, without a fabric barrier in between (which every other filter mask on the market has). So if you sweat, or breathe a lot, or just use it for a couple of days, it gets gross and filthy. Now you’re having to constantly change filters, or worse, wash the filter, which basically renders it useless. 3. If you put mask in your pocket, or hang it from your rearview morrow, like I often do, the filter just falls out. The mask itself fits great. But the filter is totally useless, making the mask a waste of money. Thanks, Michael

Filters are terrible

The mask is a nice material and I do appreciate OR attempting to make masks for outdoor activities, the filters on these are just garbage. It doesn’t stay in place, it’s literally a non scented dryer sheet flopping around in your mask all day, falling out, balling up and half the time not even coving your mouth and nose like it should. I constantly have to remove my mask to readjust the filter (incredibly annoying when snowboarding and have to take you gloves off a million times to fix it), it gets saturate with sweat and then it just gets balled up, rolling around the mask. It’s super inconvenient especially for outdoor activities when your gear needs to stay in place.

Almost perfect

Fabric is great, fit is amazing, adjustable straps and nose piece. So whats the issue? The filter pockets! Why did the choose to use pockets only on the side, I have no idea! This would have been the absolute perfect mask had they just done a normal filter pocket going through the middle! The filter scrunches up and slips out of the pocket sometimes and your mouth is against the paper filter instead of the nice fabric that the rest of the mask is made of. I still recommend it as it's the best fitting mask I've tried, but I look forward to a version 2.0, as I'm sure they will update this design flaw

I am a huge fan of this mask.

I use this product when in public, hanging out with anyone who doesn't quarantine, and for nursing school clinical rotations and labs. I am a huge fan of the fact that it is adjustable. I have a really small head so there is a small gap under my chin, but it isn't a huge deal. I tend to tighten it fairly tight to get a good fit, and for this reason it can irritate the back of my ears so I have to loosen it after a while. Having said that, compared to ALL the other masks I have used, this one fits the best. I love the color (green/drab) I love the material, and I love the disposable filter mask inserts (they took me a minute to figure out how to open at first, I poked a tiny hole in the narrow side to open it up). My bf bought it for me but I would have purchased it myself anyway.

Do not recommend.

I'm a teacher who works with 300 students a week. I've been buying my own N95s to help protect myself during this time, but these get very expensive. I thought this mask would be a safe solution, but it is very thin. Reminds me of jersey material with tiny holes. I do not believe this would protect against airborne viruses even with the filter which does NOT go inside the two pieces of fabric, but just sits against your face and does not stay in place. I do not feel protected in this mask.

Best mask on the planet!

Best mask ever! Adjustable, space for a filter, easy to wash and continue to use! It’s a small price to pay (wearing a mask) to continue life as we know it. I never leave home without one of the OR masks.

Quality made, great fit

This mask has a double layer of specially treated poly material. It has inside pockets to place a filter of which 3 are provided. The adjustable ear elastic makes a custom fit. I wear glasses and the nose wire which fits snuggly over my nose prevents fogging. I also place my glasses over the top edge of the mask which further prevents fogging. Mask covers my entire face from the nose down. The filter is not flimsy and the double layered mask makes me feel very safe. I don’t have a problem with the filter as others have reported. If anything, perhaps it could be larger. I hand wash the mask and filter and it dries quickly. Mask is worth every cent. It’s the Patagonia of facemasks.

Needs a redesign

I've always had great experiences with OR products, but this one is a let-down because of the poor filter pocket design. In their rush to release a product they didn't do enough field testing. The filter scrunches up, and does not stay in place.

With a simple mod, this is the one.

Excellent mask design. Super breathable, great fit all around, lightweight, good looking, durable, packable. Definitely my go-to for almost any setting. All that's said, there's one thing that was "meh" - the filters are not secure...BUT it's fixable (read on). Loose filters may be fine if you don't talk while wearing, but the moment I start speaking the filter starts to migrate away from its home, bunches up, and eventually sticks out of the top/bottom. Kinda annoying, and in a more professional setting this may be akin to being caught with toilet paper stuck to your shoe. Plus this makes me touch my face way too often to ensure properly alignment. Again, not desirable. Now for the fix - sewable snaps (see photos). These are readily available, cheap, and easily sewn on by hand. They also don't interfere adversely with the design intentions of this mask. If you sew them as shown (ensuring that they are in the same relative position on each side), all you need to do is take a ball point pen / toothpick and poke one hole through a new filter before you split it and insert into the mask. The snaps perfectly hold the filter in place resolving all issues I was having, and you can't even feel that they are there. 10/10, would do again.

Best mask so far

Fits well to face. I have a beard and the filter dose not interfere or come dislodged. There is a right and wrong way to insert the filter with clear instructions. Very little leakage with exhalation which helps avoid fogging of eyewear. Inhalation pulls through the mask rather than around the sides of the mask. While not to be confused with a medical grade N95, this may provide the user some protection. Likely just peace of mind. However, as a mask to protect those around you, it is the best I have found so far. Filters are disposable, so I replace them as often as we do in the outpatient clinics (after 24 hours of use).

Using without disposable filter provides little protection

I just cannot recommend using this mask alone without the disposable filters - and since it only comes with 3 - essentially this is a mask that fully depends on the inserted filter to offer real protection. All masks - when used properly - need to pass the light test. That is checking to see how much light passes through the weave of the mask fabric with or without the filter. When this mask is used without one of the disposable filters, yes, it is extremely breathable because the fabric is not even close to the tight weave of cotton typically being used in other masks, but it also lets through a lot of light (see attached image). When a mask - to give even basic protection - requires use of a disposable filter - I cannot use this as my go to mask.
