This VS Petzl Glacier

I compared this to the Petzl Glacier and the recessed grip on this is definitely more comfortable in my opinion, which is most important to me if I want to be confident that I don't drop the axe! The Raven's shaft is definitely a little heavier and the spike is sharper than it needs to be (this thing is seriously impale status) whereas the Petzl Glacier is lighter, has grip indents at the bottom of the shaft, and includes a leash (which you may or may not use based on preference anyways). The Petzl Glacier is more bang for your buck, but I feel safer with this one because of the grip; it's worth trying both out!

Root kit

I've had this axe for years and am very satisfied with its performance. It only recently fractured after years of heavy use. I don't use it for climbing anymore. It's a great tool for digging thick roots out of the soil, like those laid down by dog bane, Fuchsia, and English ivy. It penetrates deeply, tugs like a bulldog, and rips and shreds. If you're gardening now like me, and leaving the thin air behind, this is the one you want

A great beginner/general axe

I purchased one of these back in 2020 as I started my snow climbing days. Now that I have used it quite a bit in those years and I have begun upgrading my quiver of axes from just this to other axes/tools that are more niche in their purchase I have begun to see it as it is. I think this axe is a great all around tool and it is definitely a great axe for those breaking into this space without spending a ton of money on something more expensive. And for the most part, up to about 50 degree slope angle it performs well. Above that the performance issues on steeper terrain begin to show and its overall weight compared to other options one might consider such as the CAMP Coursa or Petzl Summit series or Grivel line of axes makes one consider if higher price points might be worthwhile for the weight savings. My summary: A solid axe which performs well for general purposes but whose capabilities leave small somethings to be desired at the margins.

Another great product from Black Diamond

This ice axe is a great improvement over my old Chouinard axe (design, build & material). It is also much lighter. I bought the Black Diamond leash for this axe, also a great improvement over my Chouinard leash. If you are looking for an ice axe, make sure that you look at this product.

Iconic

I just bought this today from the flagship store in Seattle. The guy who helped me size it didn’t need to help me size it because as my name denotes I’m a total mountain slayer. He made a comment about how I was getting “a really long one”, referring to the shaft size. And it’s like, well yeah I’m a tall guy I’m gonna need a longer ice axe. It made me feel kind of singled out and like a freak. I haven’t used the ice axe yet but I’m sure when I do it’s gonna be a rad time. I’ll follow up with you guys in a year and let you know how it went.

Nice purchase

Good quality. Seems strong and not so lightweight in a hand (75cm of length) during swing. I heard about this axe that it showed good work on a hike but I didnt check it by myself yet cause of it's summer time now. Keep in mind that this product doesnt have leash or any protectors with it.

if you're looking to make donations this is a great tool for many tasks that I've encountered while farming, foraging, and trapping... while it may not be intentional, this tool is great for general purpose living and could improve the lives of many people with heavier, less efficient versions.. while it is irreparable without advanced technology it sure does last. maybe consider giving some to people who need them, I know I'm happy to have one🙂
