Excited About HiBAR
I switched to HiBAR earlier this year when I was looking for biodegradable hair care products with eco-conscious packaging that are made in the USA (made in Minnesota). I was so excited to find it on the shelf at REI for even cheaper than buying it from HiBAR’s website! I have really long hair (down to my waist) and was skeptical that a solid shampoo and conditioner could ever work with my hair, but it works great and makes my hair super soft. It smells really nice. I’m a backpacker, and I also love that I can cut off a small slice, put it in a ziplock, and have a few uses of my own shampoo and conditioner for when I get to a shower for only about half an ounce of weight in my pack.
Finally! A shampoo bar that works!
I have been using shampoo bars on and off for the past four years. I have tried a number of different bars and found that they often made my hair (especially on the crown of my head) somewhat waxy and lifeless. I also had problems with my hair breaking from using the shampoo bar. But with HiBar that is not the case. After using it for the first time, I was amazed at how silky smooth my hair was and realized that no other shampoo bar had made my hair feel like that. I am definitely all in on HiBar and would recommend them! (I also love that they are from the Twin Cities!)
Shampoo bar, as advertised
Packaged in paper, I bought both the shampoo and conditioner. Shampoo bar is light color and conditioner is the darker color which is important to remember since there's no other way to tell them apart. My first time using a shampoo bar, cleaned my hair as effectively as liquid shampoo without much lather. I rubbed it directly to my head over the hair, scrubbed with my hands and rinsed like normal. This will be great to take camping and not worry about spilling in my bag like bottles in the past.
Good for short hair, caution for long thick hair
Overall good shampoo. I bought this because our family is trying to cut down on plastic use. It works perfectly for my kid’s short hair, but I have medium length, very thick hair. It cleans my hair well, but loses one star for the amount of time and effort it takes to get a lather in my thick hair. It takes way too much time, and even more if I haven’t showered for a couple days and my hair is greasy!
Doesn’t fit in a soap box with a lid
I’ve been using bar shampoos and conditioners for 4-5 years from many different brands. This is a good product and last very long time. Only complaint with this particular product but very crucial issue for me is that they don’t fit in my soapbox because of the unique shape so I can’t take to travel or camping. I use the yellow plastic soapbox with a lid which I bought at REI. Because this shampoo has fat bottom, I can’t close the lid. I tried to slice but it made it crumble. I tried to use exclusively the thick part to make the bar slimmer, but it took over 6 months. ( bar shampoos last a very long time) I had to buy another set of rectangle bar shampoo and conditioner for my travel and camping. This is a good product and no problem for using at home
Convenient shampoo bar for every day or travel
I've been using this as my go-to shampoo bar for over a year now. I made the switch to cut back on plastic and these are also great for traveling (no liquid!). I do find that after a while the shampoo loses its effectiveness, like the detergents wash away faster than the rest of it? And I go through the shampoo bars faster than the conditioner, which is surprising. Be sure to keep these in a well-draining place or they will melt/get gooey - this does make traveling more complicated if you store them in a plastic bag.
Great Shampoo
I have used this shampoo and conditioner a few times now and it works well for me. It has a nice smell and is not super strong. I have hair that tends to be drier at the ends and so far HiBAR's shampoo and conditioner keeps it feeling soft. I also tend to have sensitivities to hair products that cause my head to be very itchy afterwards, but I have not had that problem with the HiBAR moisture shampoo or conditioner.
Get away from plastic bottles, Clean your hair too
Pretty good shampoo. I've been using this brand for a few years now. I really wanted to get away from all the plastic bottles and this has been one way of reducing my use. I put one of these along with the conditioner inside a Matador soap pouch, also sold by REI. It's perfect for travel because there are no TSA issues and it doesn't spill.
Great for frequent washing
I have a lot of thin stranded, curly hair and I thought this wasn't quite cleansing enough, especially since I only shampoo once a week (I also have a dry-ish scalp). I think if you wash multiple times a week this will work since it's gentle. I loved the scent and now I'm using their Maintain bar which works much better!
Loyal hibar customer
HiBar was my first shampoo bar brand and I’m a loyal follower! Blue moisturize is my least favorite as my hair tends towards greasy but I still love this.
