Exactly as expected
I bought this after my fiancé and I have started camping more often in the off-season. I had been hammock camping several times and always noticed my butt/back/legs would be cold where it contacted the hammock and compressed the down in my sleeping back if it got below ~60 degrees. Enter the Ember. Kept me warm and toasty several nights out when it was in the 40s when paired with my 30 degree Kelty sleeping back, no cold butt, no cold feet, honestly made it difficult to get up because I was so cozy. One night it got down just below freezing around 30 degrees and I woke up with cold butt in the middle of the night, so it really is rated well for the temperatures it describes. I solved this for that night by putting my fleece jacket under my butt and that solved the problem, but recommend if you’re going to be camping in sub 40 degree temps regularly to get the next level up of the product. Easy to set up, easy to take down. Would be a bit bulky/heavy if you were planning to backpack with it but works great to keep you warmer while hammock camping. I’m also quite tall (6’3”) and the ember covered both my head and feet part of the hammock to keep them warm. Only wish is that you had the option to remove or loosen the elastic around the edges because it is rectangular and would make a great blanket as well, but you can’t unfold it all the way due to the elastic that makes it hug the underside of the hammock.

One cold night with little rest.
Failed to meet temperature rating, terrible material, too rigid and unyielding. Does not conform to hammock.

Warm on a Fall Backpacking Trip... with some Help

Like other reviewers, I agree you will need additional insulation for temperatures below 45. I used this for two nights recently in SE Ohio; one night dropped into the upper 30s and the next night the low was in the mid-40s. I had the under quilt + a 20Âş rated sleeping bag. The first night was perfect - the second night, I was roasting. :) All-in-all, this did what I expected - helped keep out the chill while backpacking on a fall evening. Super easy to set up - make sure you cinch the ends tightly to prevent cold air from seeping in.

A little bulky, but I sure am cozy

I have only had this on the trail once so far so I'm not sure if I should be writing a review, but it's such a change from previous hammocking nights that I feel I must leave a review. This review is based on a single night in chilly weather. 1. Easy to set up. Never read directions and you don't need them. 2. Size is appropriate. I thought it may be too short, but was plenty long to keep me warm 3. Cozy as all heck. Up until now I have been using a sleeping pad to prevent butt cold because I didn't want to invest in an under quilt. This is way better. Maybe too cozy... I didn't want to get out of my hammock in the morning. 4. Fit well on my Therm-a-Rest Slacker hammock Only drawback is that it is synthetic and doesn't pack down as well as I had hoped, so it takes up more space in my pack than I would like. Totally worth it unless going on a long trip.

Great Product for Me

This product is great for the backpacking trips I take in the Rocky Mountains during the summertime. I use this with the ENO ultralight setup and the matching Spark Top quilt. I do stay plenty warm but, I am a warmer sleeper and there is also a little bit of a learning curve to understand how to properly use the item to insulate your hammock and stay warm. There are instructions attached to the item but, they are so so instructions. The picture they show with the item next to a Nalgene bottle is super deceiving. It is about the size of a 65L backpacking pack sleeping bag compartment. It comes in a bag with no compression straps so I will take up some space unless you have your own compression sack. Great light quilt

Took it summer subalpine backpacking and it was great. No cold spots, stayed put on the double hammock quite well. One downside is that the shock cords that connect it to the ends of the hammock have nowhere to stuff into when not on a hammock. The quilt is rectangular and would make a great trail quilt if the shock cords were a couple inches longer (so they were longer than the end of the quilt) and had a place to stow.

Helpful piece of hammock set up

Great addition to cooler weather camping. Slept out for two nights at around 50 degrees with a 30 degree sleeping bag and was too warm both nights, used sleeping bag as more of a quilt and kept my arms out all night. Really nice! Other people in my group didn’t being underquilt and were too cold to sleep comfortably, does well in that temperature range for sure.

Warm and well worth it!!

The Eno Underquilt is AWESOME! Went on a backpacking trip in the Smoky Mountains, with my daughter, in late December and the lows were in the 20's. The Underquilts kept us both nice and toasty warm at night. My daughter referred to hers as her cocoon. I would highly recommend this for any winter backpacking trip. They were lite and did not take up much room in a pack, but brought a great deal of warmth.

Kept me warm

I used this underquilt on a freakishly cold 35 degree May night while backpacking in the Shenandoah Nat'l Park. I also had a sleeping bag rated to 0 degrees and managed to actually get too warm in the middle of the night. Very happy with it.

32F and it was my warmest night ever yet

The Ember underquilt is now my favorite piece of gear. Weather forecasts warned of patchy frost on a September night in the Adirondacks and this underquilt kept me so warm all night. This is a must have for Hammock camping in any weather,& don't forget to bring your sleeping bag/overquilt

Kept me warm in the Rockies

Stayed warm the very night I purchased it. Slept in the ENO Sublink system up in the Rockies. The overnight low was in the low 40's and windy, but it kept me warm all night. Once I figured out how to adjust and tighten it the underquilt it was easy.
