Looks like other reviewers have had success in pulling off ticks with this tool. Not me. In the case of a little bugger smaller than one of those stars this item just slid over the top of it again, and again, and again. It moved the body of the tick around but never grabbed it, which I presume that narrow end of the slot is supposed to do. I ended up removing the thing with a pair of tweezers. I would give this one star myself, but imagine it might work with a large or already engorged tick. I'll be sticking to tweezers.
Mixed results
I had three ticks attached to me last weekend and got the first one after a couple of tries with this tool, but not the second one. After I had the tweezers out, I just used them for the third as well. I had hoped to be able to say that it works even with the smaller ticks, but that wasn't the case for me. It's a shame because it's so easy to carry. I put a cord through the hole and two washers on the cord to use as impromptu tweezers or to help crush the tick. I'll keep this tool, but I don't think I can rely on it. The problem I had is just like what others have reported, it's too hard to capture a small tick at the tip. It also feels a little expensive for what you get, I kept thinking I could find a cheaper model somewhere on eBay.

Pulled a tick right off of my son when we were hiking, didn't even have to touch the sucker. So easy to use.
Doesn't work with tiny nymphs
Just like another reviewer reported, it doesn't work with very small instars. I much prefer the teaspoon-like tick removers with a much smaller notch to get under and pull all sizes of ticks.
Two for two!
I have pulled two ticks off my daughter with this. One after hiking despite being lathered in repellent and then again today after playing in bushes with friends. Clean extraction both times with head clearly attached and the tick fully mobile. Don’t rush and make sure the tick ends up in the small end. Keep it pressed against the body and slide. I am going to buy a few more to have in cars and the house so I don’t have to run to my pack when needed.
Does not work as well as fine-tipped tweezers
I had high hopes for this product, but it does not work as well as either tweezers or a slip knot in dental floss.
Didn’t work
I’ve kept this in my pack for years. When I needed to use it on a small deer tick didn’t work . Luckily I was at home and used tweezers. Will purchase the tick tweezes. I wish REI carried these.
Removes ticks easily
I have a couple of these (not just this brand) that I keep around. It works great for removing ticks from skin, dogs, etc. Super quick and painless, removes ticks from my dogs ears without them even noticing.
Tickle
The tick remover has only been used once so far and was unsuccessful at removing an embedded tick on the side of a persons torso.
So useful, can literally save your life.
I’m so glad I got this. I never even knew such a thing existed until my friend showed me his. It’s the easiest way to remove a tick, but more importantly, it’s by far the safest way that I know of to remove a tick myself. It’s cheap, small, weighs next to nothing, and is so immensely useful. There’s really no reason to not have at least a few of these around the house, in the car, on your keychain, etc.
