really toasty -- hopefully not so bad?
I was a little worried when I read some of the reviews about the seams of these socks, and how they wear out too quickly. Maybe I will change my mind, but for now, I wanted to let everyone know that at least for my purposes (to keep my feet warm in a 1914 house that a) we don't heat much in our attempts to conserve; and b) has a cold corner that happens to be my office :-) -- these socks seem to be just perfect. They are very warm, very thick and soft. I won't be hiking in them for sure, and I might not even leave the house in them often. So far -- they are really great. And paired with my German boiled woolen slippers -- really wonderfully cozy. These made my day.
How are these a top rated sock?!?
These socks are total trash! 1st off, I ordered 2 pairs and one i received wasn't even the one pictured, but was also an REI Nook sock. They both have regular sewn toe seams instead of knitted or serged so that it lays flat and doesn't have a lump that presses against your hiking boot. One pair didn't even have the low quality seam style sewn correctly but sewn into a point which made it extra lumpy. The other pair the top of the cuff was already unraveling when i opened the package. I have more than 60 pairs of socks in my collection from $2 to edging towards $30 and I have never seen such low quality on a sock. I thought the REI brand was pretty much a guarantee of good quality but it seems everyone is taking short cuts these days. Needless to say, these are being returned.
Comfortable wooly wonders
I have been looking for wool socks like these for a long time. Even though I have thin calves, I can't stand socks that have a tight band that leaves a dent. These thick and yummy socks feel great on my calves and they are soft and warm. They remind me of hand knit socks, and they came through the cold machine wash great (protected in a lingerie bag).
Wore out quickly
I've got holes in the heels after about ten wears - and I wasn't climbing the Andes!
never worn outside and have a hole in heel
I bought these less than 2 mos ago and havent been outside with them due to foot injuries and pandemic. They are comfortable Yet one already has a hole in the heel. very disappointing. Even the cheap socks I buy last a couple of years at least.
Like walking on a cloud
These sock have the most Merino wool that I have seen in a pair of socks. They are very warm and soft. They kept my feet nice set and warm and it was like walking on a cloud. I really like the color as well.
Thick and warm socks!
These socks are very thick and warm! Great for hiking or lounging around the house, I love em.
Warm and cozy Socks
I love these socks! My feet were always cold until I put them on!
Knit separates on heels creating hole
I have 3 pairs of these socks, I've had them for a year. I primarily wear them only at home and alternate through the 3. I do not wear them daily, it is more like semi-regularly. All the socks have developed "holes" in the heels, or rather, the knitting has separated enough to create large holes. It took 1 pair closer to 9 months, the other pairs closer to a year. so disappointing because I loved these socks others
Great warm socks
I bought these for a November trip to Iceland. I wore them with thin liner socks (Alturas ultra light weight) and my snow boots. My feet were comfortable & warm as I walked & hiked. These are my new favorite socks!
