So far so good. Havent had them long enough for 5 stars.... warm , comfortable. Firm sole. If it were a perfect world, the laces would stay tied without double knotting and the inside lining around the top would be softer. I have to be sure to wear tall socks to avoid them rubbing my ankle skin. My last pair eventually wore down so they were smoother and not so abrasive. So far waterproof and eyelets are smooth enough to not shred the laces. Would be nice if they had something reflective for night use. This is my second pair. The first pair is quite worn out in comparison.
If I had written this after wearing them on the first hike, I wouldn’t have given 4 stars. There is a stitched in tag ( displaying warmth and thermometer) on the inside of both boots on the inner high ankle; very irritating and causing bruising. The next few times wearing the boots I didn’t lace to the top, leaving the boot looser at the top. Problem solved, I hope. Why stitch a tag there??? After wearing them another 5/6 times, so far these boots are very comfortable, warm and waterproof in mud, slush, puddles and snow, hiking and snowshoeing. Just what I was looking for.
I was hesitant about these boots based on some of the other reviews, but I've found them to be warm, comfortable, supportive, and very stable in ice and snow. I was looking for a boot that could be my wintertime version of my summer/fall hiking boots. I have been getting by with Bogs for years but not loving them, and I found Sorels to be too much boot with not enough traction. These are amazing! Walking and hiking in single digit weather at altitude, they have kept my feet really warm and dry. If you want the flexibility of a sneaker, this is probably not your boot. If you want something that can go from dog walking, to snowshoeing, to hiking, all in winter time, this is your boot.
These are comfortable right out of the box, I'm really surprised. The only thing stopping me from rating them a 5star is the size. I've read through reviews and quite a few say size up. I'm normally a 7.5 so I ordered an 8 and they were way too big. I drove an hour to the nearest REI store and exchanged for a 7.5.......still too big! I've never owned a size 7 boot or sneaker, so this is a first. I even wore my thickest winter socks. Definitely DO NOT size up. Besides the size issue, they're fantastic. Went for a hike expecting to break them in and had zero issues or pains.
Shoveling snow in new boots for 30min. 27F. Snow melted on toe box, got toes cold! I went and felt inside, topside of toe box with fingers; not wet, but cold to touch. Uhg. Got for winter hiking,, but now apprehensive. I like the wide, roomy toebox, lightweight features. Maybe even room inside for toe warmer. But I can't believe warmth feature will hold below zero. I also wear insert; room enough without squishing upper foot. Bottom of foot warm and comfy. Gets very snowy and cold in Maine, NH mountains. Will review again, if boot is as described. I say runs wide, but that is why I buy!!
Probably ordered ten boots to try. I have issues with finding shoes wide enough in the toe box. These were immediately comfortable. Medium arch support and great tread. Only issue I had is the uppers needed some breaking in. Pretty stiff hitting my shin (i also had tried the taller version which was unbearable). I wish they were 400 grams thinsulate, as my feet do get cold in these when it’s 20 degrees or colder. It almost seems like to get really warm boots you have to go with heavy duty boots from Canada that weigh a ton.
Bought these for my trip to Iceland in March and they worked perfectly. I've bought plenty of Keen's throughout the years and these did not disappoint me. They were comfortable out of the box, no problems at all with rubbing or anything. I don't agree with those that said the toe box is small, though it is smaller than other Keen's I have worn. I do believe the smaller toe box is by design, less air inside means warmer feet. Keeping warm is, in my opinion, not on the boots, especially this type of boot. The key to warm feet is correctly sized boots and the correct sock(s)--using liners and wool socks is key! I've also read a lot of reviews on this and other sites about these not being waterproof, but that was not my experience at all. For extra protection, I did apply waterproofing spray before my trip (always a good practice IMO), but I walked through fairly deep puddles without a thought and was impressed with completely dry and warm feet. Highly recommend these boots (assuming they fit your feet correctly, of course).
The Revel serves up serious traction. I traversed steep, rocky trails with ease and support. Worked great in snowy/icy conditions too. No break-in period either. I appreciate how much ankle support they offered without feeling constricted. Just to note, I have a narrow foot and despite the roomy nature of the boot, my foot stayed firmly in place with each step I took. The online photo doesn't do the color justice - the Magnet/North Atlantic is a really pretty dark olive green, which looks more gray in the photo.
I started snowshoeing this year and my waterproof hiking boots were not keeping me warm, even with wool socks and liners. I ordered these because I needed something that would keep me comfortable in the snow for 5 hours as we had a snowshoe navigation race coming up. I'm happy to say that they worked great. I wore wright socks as liners, and medium weight wool socks, and had no issues with cold or wetness at all. I wear a 10.5 or 11 depending on brand and my feet tend towards wide. I got these in a 10.5 and there was still a bit of room to spare with socks. The toe box is not as wide as most Keens but worked fine for me. The only thing I didn't like is aesthic-related. The picture makes the leather part look gray but its really more of a gray-green and I'm not a fan of how it looks with the blue.
I bought these to use for everything from wintry dog walks to snowshoeing and hiking. They have incredibly fantastic traction on ice and packed snow. The fit is terrific too. I have a high arch and use orthotics (superfeet) and these boots are so comfortable. They have a strong heel cup grip so your foot is secure. I’ve worn these with medium weight hiking socks and feet are warm in low digit temps.
