The best Softshell for northern man!
The jacket is best! when I will on journey, the jacket must in my prepare list.
Awesome softshell for Ski touring
I have had this soft shell for couple of years now and it is my go to piece for skinning up the skin track on cold days and layering underneath a hard shell for the descent down. The shape and cut makes it look great on its own, but also for layering underneath hard shells or down jackets when it gets really cold out. Being a soft shell it breaths terrific for the ascent and repels moisture and water droplets.
I live in the Gamma MX Hoody
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the predecessor of the Gamma Hoody in 2016 and have worn it hard for every conceivable purpose. From the first crisp fall day to the last cool day of spring, this rocks for ice climbing, hiking, trail work, days-in town, and everything in between. Due to the fit its great to layer, but its cozy enough that I can throw it over a short sleeve and still be comfortable. I will be 100% replacing it with another the instant I have to, but I hope there is a repair in its future when the time comes, because it has come to be like that childhood emotional support item that you couldn't get rid of! Also the Arc'teryx colorways always ROCK! Pick something bright to be a statement piece!
Versatile Jacket
Comparing this jacket to my previous jacket (made by another company), it blows it out of the water or off the crag I should say. It’s considerably lighter then my previous but don’t let that make you think it’s not going to be warm. Even with the the harsh winds up in North Wales I’ve been warm and that was with a normal t-shirt on underneath. It’s even nice to wear about casually if the weather is proving to be harsh. The fit is very true fit and has an athletic cut to the jacket. There is a bit of length to the sleeves so don’t be worried if you’re going to climb in it.
Multi purpose
love the Gamma MX Hoody, wasnt to sure about it at first but fell in love with not long after, great shell i used over the winter for many purposes such as hiking, ice climbing, snowboarding, hanging around a fire, doing errands around town.. its a great alternative for something to wear inbetween an atom lt and a beta ar. alot of the times i wore it over my Atom Lt and was a perfect match for me, was warm, breathable and was impressed with the durable water repellent as a few quick snow storms would cruz by and it did the job greatly. when ever im going on road trips for work for a few days or so, this would be my go to jacket for that extra layer.
Amazing soft-shell anything jacket
This jacket is probably one of my favourites now in my closet and in line with my Atom LT hoody. It is fitted, yet allows free range of movement. Warm, but not suffocating. Water resistant, but highly breathable. This jacket is going to be my go to backcountry and resort ski coat now for all days that are not truly requiring GORE-TEX. Additionally, it's perfect for a chilly day of sailing to cut the wind, high output winter hike, and even just walking the dog year round. Also a perfect aprés anything jacket to keep the chill off while reminiscing about the sick lines that were just schralped. It's a sick coat, Arc'teryx!
Great all around jacket
I’m 6’4” and 200 pounds. I first purchased this jacket in a size large. It seemed a little short at the waist, and snug through shoulders. I exchanged it for an XL. The length was much better and the extra room in the shoulders helped. It’s a little big around the waist but I can comfortably wear a base layer under and still have room to move comfortably. The athletic fit should be taken into consideration when ordering this jacket. I would not recommend it for frigid days without a base layer, or days with heavy rain without a Gore-Tex layer over. Otherwise a versatile, comfortable, well built jacket.
Very nice soft shell
I have owned this jacket for about 4 years now in Blackbird. I am 5 ft 10 and 13 stone. I bought a large and it fits me but only just, it is on the point of being a bit big. I should have bought a medium in all honesty but hey ho. The jacket is very well made and looks stylish. The hood is awesome and has a cinch cord to pull it in in all the right places so it's snug and keeps the wind out. I have mainly hiked and worn this jacket around town but its stood up to down pours and wear and tear really well. I am not really that big a fan of soft shells but as far as they go this is a really good one.
The Gamma MX is really fantastic!
This Gamma MX jacket is extremely comfortable and provides strong warmth. Although it was purchased for my brother, after trying it out, his feedback was excellent. The overall color is very appealing, and the chest pocket doesn't feel too tight. It should be suitable for wearing alone in spring and autumn for warmth. I highly recommend purchasing it on REI; it's truly fantastic. The slim fit design is particularly good!
Great heavy duty softshell
This is my 4th Gamma MX. It’s pretty heavy duty with four ventilation pockets and light fleece bonded to the inside as a slight insulation. The dwr from factory is usually pretty good for light rain. My only issue with it is the cuff design. I miss the old cuffs which are more like an atom or proton cuff. I honestly can’t understand why these are designed this way. If it had the old cuffs I would give it 5 stars! I use this for skiing as it fits over my ski helmet well and if I size up I can fit extra Insulation underneath. Of course if it’s really windy and cold I’d recommend a hard shell.
