Disappointed
Not only did it arrive five days late, but the bag had several holes and smelled of gasoline. It is not soft at all and does look quite old and ragged (as another customer mentioned). I found the size to be accurate. I will be returning. Overall a very poor experience.
Disappointed, Returned
This is exactly what happens when there is not enough pictures of everything about an item when shopping online. The outside material is also Not on the inside, instead it has another material on the inside which you can only see in the hoodie based on the pictures- but that's how it is for the rest of the jacket inside. In the hoodie that lining makes sense so your hair doesn't get caught and create static on it, but I thought that the inside was also the same material as well since that type of material is so warm & soft. It's a great color, and the length is great, but the lining was more cooling then warming. Sadly, returned it.
Great Alternative
I had this jacket previously and regretted letting it go! However, I am pumped to get it again in a color I love more (furry taupe) and at an amazing sale price, especially if it’s being discontinued according to the REI website. I find this jacket to be a great alternative to my giant puffer throughout the winter season here in Minnesota, especially when running errands. I find the fleece to be soft and cozy despite being made of recycled materials, which I have found to be rough and scratchy with other brands. In my experience the jacket fits true to size, maybe even a little towards the smaller end. I typically wear a L/XL depending on brand and wear an XL in this jacket for extra room around my hips and to layer. Will not let this one go this time!
As cozy and frumpy as a bathrobe, but easy to wear
This is a warm thick fleece with satin lining that is convenient to throw on over anything…like a bathrobe that is acceptable to wear in public. It is not especially flattering to the female form but it is comfortable and cozy. My three suggestions for improving this coat would be (1) needs interior pockets and at least one zip pocket (2) needs a drawstring/elastic at the waist so it looks better and keeps out drafts (3) thumbhole cuffs would have been nice and practical. I am a size 4/6 on top and a 6 on bottom and went with a medium which looks a bit oversized on me. I have hips… and to be honest, going smaller would have been too tight on the hips (my hips measure 38.5 inches). I use the two way zipper as it is when walking to increase range of motion for lower body.
Runs a little big
Overall I was pleasantly surprised at how thick and warm this coat was. I am 5'5" and 125 pounds and usually fluctuate between a small and a medium. The medium feels huge on me (like I'm wearing my boyfriend's coat) so I'm planning on exchanging this item in hopes that the smaller size looks and feels better. I also wish there was a drawstring at the waist. I'm admittedly not sure if it's worth the $200 price tag, but like I said, I'm hoping sizing down helps me love this coat like I hoped to!
wonderful cozy jacket
I purchased this jacket last fall so I got to try it out all winter (and it was a cold one), and I love it. I find that the sizing is spot on. It's meant to fit loosely and my usual size large is perfect. I also tried the medium but it was too tight in the shoulders (I do have wide shoulders, so not sure if someone with narrower shoulders might be able to go down a size), and honestly it didn't look much more fitted in the rest of the body. But in my opinion, that's one of its charms - this is a true parka for cold weather, and as such, it's nice to have lots of room for layers. The fabric just adds an extra level of coziness, and if it was too fitted, that would defeat the purpose. I suggest if you buy this, be ready to look like a teddy bear, because there's no getting around that. I find that it's comfortable on its own down into the upper 30s, and can work into the teens with a puffy jacket and skirt. (Cold air comes into the leg area since there's no drawstring at the bottom hem, so added insulation on the legs is helpful.) It is QUITE heavy and bulky, so not necessarily an active wear item, though I have gone for short hikes in it when it was cold enough that I knew I wouldn't be taking it off, because there's no way it would fit in my small daypack. Overall, it's one of my favorite clothing purchases in the last few years.
when you want more than a hoody
I wanted something heavier than my fleece hoody but less work/hassle than layering my technical puffer and shell combos over a number of base/mid layers for walks/playground time etc. This is perfect!! The dusty mesa is a lovely grey/purple/taupe and the pictures are pretty true to the color. I have larger (~40 in) hips which can be a challenge for jacket sizing, but the size small fits perfectly. Speaking of large hips, there are two zippers (as the jacket is long) so I can simply unzip the bottom when sitting! There aren’t any fancy interior pockets etc, you do look a little like an adorable labradoodle in it, and it’s definitely not “packable” or technical active/running gear. BUT it does keep you warm (without adjusting three layers of clothing or feeling like you’re wearing a duvet) when you’re stuck pushing a swing for a 300 count on a cold windy morning. I’m a wimp in the cold but for me this is appropriate for mid 30s to low 50s for moderate walks and playground trips. Colder would need a extra base/mid layers and warmer would mean taking it off for the walk home (60+ is probably too warm for it period)
Surprisingly Warm
Fit true to size 5'6" 125lbs and size small fits great. Wore this on the first cold and snowy day with a high of 30 and was incredibly warm. I am also pleasantly surprised at the wind resistance of the fabric even though. Really pleased with this purchase.
Baggy but warm
Very warm and cozy coat, love the fleece and zipper, but it’s very tight on the wrists and loose everywhere else. Wish they put a drawstring at the waist and less bunch in the sleeves. $200 seems like too much
Warm and comfy!
This coat is so warm and so comfortable! I love wearing it out on walks with my dog and it comes in handy for after school duties in the cold. My only minor issue is there is no flare or side slits at the bottom. I have wider hips so it’s awkward if I have to lean over or grab something from a pant pocket, if it’s zipped up. There is a zipper feature that goes both directions to alleviate that issue but it’s not the best.
