These merino under layers are awesome, I absolutely love them. Only thing is that I wish they would hold up a bit better. After about 6-12 months, they look like the pictures attached - still strong everywhere except the bottom area which I would say is the weakest area structurally
Sometimes when I wear medium boxer briefs it can feel a bit tight in the waist. I ordered the medium size here and they fit perfect. Not too tight and not too loose. They are very soft and just the right amount of material that I know I will be warm. I love the 3/4 length because they come up to about mid calf and stay out of my ski boots. I'm definitely excited to be wearing quality base layer.
Had these existed when I was a kid, I think I woulda stayed in Seattle longer. They make my return much more tolerable over the winter. I use these as my daily underwear in Seattle during its cold, wet winters. They keep me alive long enough for my public transit commute in office clothes in dark mornings and evenings, yet they are not too warm for office. The do feel a bit snug around the waist, which is a problem for me because I'm smack dab in the middle of sizes. Despite how careful I am, they do shrink. I experimented with a larger size and after a couple of washings, they fit well around my covid-era gut.
It kept me warm with my snow pants as my only other layer. Comfortable when the waist is properly stretched out. Better for skiers that don't like to many layers down to the feet. My only con is the waist for the L size is a little tight if you are near the 36-37in on the waist. I had to really stretch it out in order for it to be comfortable. Maybe order a size bigger if you're close to the 36in waist. I would give this 4.5 stars since it is very warm just tight.
Took these to Kirghzstan for a yurt trip and did not want to take them off(eventually just cuz it had to happen eventually) They were warm, kept me dry in all the right places and the boot top kept me from over heating when skinning up. Awesome!
I use these for resort days on the ski hill and other winter activities where I don't want extra material inside my boot. They are much warmer than the other brand I've tried (Hot Chilis) and more convenient with the front opening for bathroom breaks. I've used them underneath my shell pants that have minimal insulation, down to about 10 deg. F. The only thing I don't care for is the weak elastic at the bottom opening along the calf. It doesn't hold tight, which allows the legs to roll up sometimes.
I find these are perfect for cold-er weather without feeling overly "stuffy". These worked perfectly for me during long winter hikes. Kept me comfy but did not feel "over heated". Soft and comfortable next to the skin. Highly recommend!
Great material; Smartwool's Merino 250 is really comfortable. I bought these hoping the 3/4 length would reduce the sagging fit I get from my full-length base layer bottoms. It didn't; continued to have sagging fit. So I returned them.
Nice 3/4-length layer. Well suited for skiing and not always easy to find. Mid-weight good for all but the most arctic conditions.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pretty good. Pros: it's warm, the length is great for wearing snowboard/ski boots without causing the sock-tight wrinkle. It's odor proof (4 days of snowboarding without noticeable stank). Cons: they aren't tights. They have a loose fit. Not a deal breaker, but I wish they were tighter. I have an athletic build, my legs are defined, and they felt like a loose fit. I'd still buy again, but if they were tighter, they'd be absolutely perfect.
