Strong, but heavy.

Seems plenty strong, and heavy! The coil of the cable made it slightly difficult to deploy, it really wants to stay coiled. I wondered about the use of plastic parts in the lock cylinder. It worked fine and was easy to set up my own combination, just concerned about the life span of those parts.

Could not unlock

I used this for several months, I liked that it was longer when I needed the length to get to something to lock to. However after a day of using it a few times, on the last time I could not unlock it. A lock smith wanted 350 per hour and min charge to come and probably cut it for me. I called a friend and had to painstakingly cut through the wire and explain to passers by that yes this is my bike. It took about 15 minutes with wire cutters to get through. I wish I would have read the reviews prior to purchasing.

Poor design for code setting

This lock works but you have to constantly pay attention to the combination codes when you go to lock it. That is because of a design failure that makes it’s super easy to inadvertently reset your code due to the twisting end of the lock. You have to constantly make sure that the code you want is in the right place and that the arrows are also in the right place. If the right arrow is up, do not lock your bike before making sure the code you want is correct. Otherwise, you are going to lock yourself out of this lock. If you are in this position, twist the combination until you feel the release move a bit. Those are the pins releasing in the lock mechanism. Keep spinning each number until the release comes undone.

Bike cable failure

I used it about 10 times and never was a smooth operation since it takes two hands to use it by pulling a latch and separating the cable at the same team. But at a function to lock my bike up it wouldn’t open when I was ready to lock up my bike. It didn’t unlock for me so I had to leave my and my wife’s bikrs unlocked. I followed the directions on the booklet but to no avail. Will REI honor the lifetime warranty?

Jammed

Well it was only a matter of time I guess. I purchased this lock before all the other 1 star reviews came flooding in but now I've joined the club. After using this lock infrequently for the past 6 months, it has finally jammed/failed. Fortunately, it jammed at home so I'm not stranded like many other reviewers. Save your money but more importantly save your TIME trying to cut your bike free especially if it fails in public. Never fun to waltz up to your failed lock with bolt cutters while convincing others that the bike is indeed yours. #fail Kryptonite...in more ways than one.

WORST BIKE LOCK SUCH A HASSLE!!!

do not buy this lock under any circumstances. I locked my bike outside of target yesterday and when I came back to unlock it the lock came unlocked without a combination. I then took it to get some food locked it outside the place, and when i came back my combination would not open it. the same thing happened to everyone else here. the stupid thing changed the combination and malfunctioned awfully. now i have to get bolt cutters and go back to the restaurant and look like an idiot cutting my bike loose

AWFUL EXPERIENCE, HAD TO CUT THIS OFF MY BIKE

I had an awful experience with this lock. Used for about a month with no issues. One day I rode my bike to a park and locked it up using this lock. I came back and when i put in my code, the lock would not open. No chance it was the wrong code as I recorded it when I set the code. I was stranded and it was getting dark. Luckily i found someone with a pair of wire cutters. It took several tries but I was able to cut it within 10 minutes of trying with some pretty small wire cutters. Would not recommend. The worst part? REI does not take returns for “damaged equipment”. Waste of $30

Do Not Buy

Used this about 3 times and the code randomly quit working yesterday and WOULD NOT unlock with 2 E-bikes locked to it. Searched online and saw how bad the reviews were and I fell victim to it as others did. Do Not Buy. Such a headache and hassle trying to find a tool to cut through the cable.

Terrible lock

This is absolutely the worst bike lock I have ever owned. When it’s locked, it’s almost impossible to open when the combination is set to the correct sequence. When it’s open, it’s nearly impossible to close it and spin the tumblers. The design of the locking mechanism is just terrible. If I can’t get REI to take it back it’s going into the garbage.

A nightmare

Like many others have said, this lock can inadvertently change combinations. My son's bike was stranded. I tried to get it open for an hour (It had worked fine before) but couldn't. We ended up leaving it out in the rain over night. Now I have to buy a bolt cutter. Time. Money. Aggravation. Terrible.
