So cozy, runs big
This is a very warm plush hoodie that seems underpriced compared to Kuhl's other products. Sized down: I am usually a Medium in Kuhl but this one is generously cut, sleeves nice and long, so I easily fit in a Small. I bought the Ash which coordinates well with any vest I want to put over it. This hoodie is similar to my Patagonia Better Sweater, but it's softer and cozier--I love it even though I'm not a fan of the marbled/heavily heathered look. I love Kuhl, but not all of it, and this one is a winner. Highly recommend!
KUHL Women's Ascendyr Fleece Hoodie
I have purchased a lot of Kuhl merchandise; however, I am very disappointed with the quality of this sweatshirt. It pills horribly and picks up lint and hair from everywhere. Will make me rethink buying another Kuhl sweatshirt. I am in need of one as the winter is cold in Oklahoma so I am searching for another brand.
Kuhl jacket but not as functional and sustainable
I live in Northern California where micro climates are a “thing” so wearing layers is essential to maintain warmth and comfort in daily life. I own 3 of these layers in different colors. I just returned from Portugal and took my sage green jacket and wore it daily. The hood came in handy while touring and at beaches watching the sunset. Now, I love this jacket overall and I’m going to tell you why I only gave it 4 stars and I hope that Kuhl reads these reviews because I’ve explained the same issue on 2 previous flight jackets…and these jackets are not inexpensive. The weak link in these Kuhl jackets are cheap zippers! The zippers fail. I’m ready to donate my white one because I can’t zip it. Same thing happened on my old flight jacket. After paying for a quality product, I don’t want to fork out $50-100 to have the zipper replaced. So Kuhl has a great product with a design flaw. Fix the zipper and I’ll continue my brand support but for now when my jackets zippers fail- I bail!
What was the designer thinking?
The length was good for me. But there were problems. When I was wearing a long-sleeve cotton T and tried this on, it was a struggle for two reasons. 1) the sleeves were cut narrow and 2) the inner fabric surface is rough polyester fleece. I am a skinny person, and the size was accurate, but the chest was tight, and I am not busty. But the hips were cut huge, so it looks out-of-proportion when wearing it. The fabric is too thin to be of much use at temps much below 60F, as I was hoping it would be warmer. A positive: the hood was not extremely oversize, which happens often with hoodies. Zipper pockets are a plus, but the inner lining of the pockets is thin enough that I worry car keys would puncture through soon. The appearance is nice.
Love the soft inside
I love the fit and the inside is soft, not scratchy. I’ve tried many other brands jackets of this kind and this has the best feel. It’s warm enough when layered for cold weather hikes, moves well, and fits great. I’m 5’4”, 140 lbs, curvy and wear a small.
Not as nice as years past
I ordered this hoodie because I loved their fleece of last year. This material is not a warm thick fleece. The hood has no warmth to it and does not fit tight. My old ones fit tight around the waist and this has a big gap to let in cold air. It is trimmed in a nylon binding, not the warm fleece of past years. Pretty disappointed in Kuhl for the 1st time.
My New Favorite Jacket
Very comfortable, warm, and goes with pretty much any outfit! I love the way the zipper goes all the way up to my chin to keep my neck warm (especially with the hood on), there are zippers on the outer pockets which are great for workouts, and there are inside pockets too!
Dissatisfied with the fabric
The fabric is a magnet for hair and everything else. It pilled under the arm on the first wearing. The hood drawstring came out when I washed it. I only wore it a couple times and decided to wash it because it looked so terrible. After washing the pilling and other things still attached made it look only marginally better. I’m very disappointed in it.
Perfect hoodie!
Perfect fit for tall person--not too short like some hoodies. Stays dry on damp days. Nice weight for workouts in the cold.
Great hoodie, but...
This is a warm, thick and cozy hoodie. I tried it on in the store and the XS fit perfectly--it was so flattering. I decided at home to buy and ordered online. The one I received, also an XS, was at least a size bigger, and not so flattering. It's kinda baggy and dumpy. It's a great garment but the inconsistency of sizing, which I guess can happen in any mass produced item of clothing, is frustrating.
