Worth every penny. Definitely not for backpacking.

This isn't your usual camp chair: it doesn't force you into a weird posture, it doesn't dig into your arms or legs, it doesn't leave your back aching, it doesn't snag on the drawstring and tear the low-quality carrying bag it came in, it (as far as I can tell) won't break because a cheap rivet gave out. It's basically a super comfy desk/task chair that happens to fold up and go with you: the mesh fabric and tensioners provide even support, the seat rolls off in the front so it doesn't dig into my thighs, the armrests and other structural members don't dig into my arms or legs, it's got a high-quality bag with a zipper and backpack straps, and it's (as far as I can tell) built like a tank. I'm big (5' 10") and heavy (260 lbs), and I'm not at all worried that I'll break this chair. It's comfy *and* it'll pay for itself versus a series of chairs that cost 10-20% as much but break. This is absolutely not a backpacking chair. I literally have a sore muscle in my shoulder from carrying the shipping box a couple blocks to my friend's car, and I wouldn't want to carry it with the shoulder strap instead of the backpack straps more than a short distance. But it's absolutely worth it for camping, backyard hangouts (it's nicer than most patio furniture that *doesn't* fold!), or other situations where you're not carrying it super far and/or can use the backpack straps.

Heavier than described

Purchased this well-made item online but found it was too heavy and bulky for light camping. Further, the actual weight exceeds the weight stated on the web site. As my local store was closed due to the corona virus, I was required to ship it cross country to REI Returns in Sumner, WA; the UPS charge for 18 lbs was $62.27.

Ridiculously Over Built & Over Priced, Worth It!

Pictures do not do justice to this chair. It is ridiculously over built with the snaps on the arm rests and the clipping mechanism in back to hold the chair open in place. My husband feels ridiculous doing all that in public after carrying the Yeti bag with the backpack straps then taking out the chair out to clip it into place, but he does it cause cause the Yeti Trailhead chair is just that comfortable. I bought us 2 of these chairs, and even though they are bulky and heavy, the frame feels solid and robust while the mesh gives just the slightest stretch to make you comfortable. Yes, we still have our old $20 camping and beach chairs with the potato sack feel of the material and the flimsy frame, the Yeti Trailhead chair is not that. I honestly do not know how you could damage the frame of this thing. Also, the wide solid feet which keeps the chair from digging into sand works great. For the longest time I scoffed at the price of this chair and the people who would pay that much cause, seriously?! Well, yeah, seriously. There’s other similar chairs from Snow Peak and Dometic which cost about the same or less with similar frame design but the materials are subpar and the seating material has a canvas feel that sags. The Yeti Trailhead chair isn’t that either. I highly recommend this chair. Yes, you will be walking up to camp, or the park, or any numbers of events carrying this chair in a Yeti bag over your shoulder. Then you’ll take the chair out and snap the frame into place, it’s a lot. However, you’ll be comfortable as the mesh conforms to your body and you’ll be ready to relax and enjoy the moment with a beer or drink of your choice.

Armrests Kill It

The armrests are too narrow and close in for a $300 chair intended to hold 500 pounds. I’m a moderately bigger guy, and my straight elbows land to the outside of both armrests. They’re even tighter and thinner than a standard Travelchair by several inches, and that’s ridiculous. It really feels like you’re sitting in an airline seat. Only one reason to buy this chair, and that’s for a more comfortable back, which it definitely is. But not for the size, or weight, or price. Disappointed.

Not a camp chair as it cannot handle campfires

I love this chair. My wife loves this chair. Everyone we camped with loves this chair. This chair will not last because the mesh melts from the slightest heat. This is a great disappointment as we love other Yeti products, yet this one was a huge miss. After the first hour camping, a tiny little spark drifted off the campfire and melted a fingernail-sized hole. There is no way to repair it or replace the mesh. Read the low star reviews on the Yeti website as well - they corroborate. Unless you want to file a warranty claim every time you go camping, this chair will not last. I've had far better durability from $15 camping chairs, not to mention other quality products like Snow Peak.

Camp Chair

We waited a long time to get this chair! After much deliberation we went ahead with the purchase. We had tested the chairs prior at a store and knew that it was the very best for posture at camp. The only thing that held us back was the price but in the end we pulled the trigger. Our health and comfort in the field won - this chair will be with us for years to come!

The search for the ideal camp chair has ended

I will start this off by saying this chair is pretty expensive. I used a gift card and REI’s 20% off to make the price bearable. This is Yeti’s second camp chair. I passed on the first (Hondo) because it didn’t collapse down far enough. I have been using Helinox chairs because they pack away so small. The problem with them is the lack of proper arm rests. This chair definitely is bulkier but it’s trade off is it’s stability and comfort. The mesh really is comfortable. Ideally it would be nice if it had a higher back for a headrest but you can slouch down if you need to take a little nap. Now I am thinking I might need a second. Come on next 20% off sale!

Disappointed

An ash landed behind me and didn’t burn me or my jeans but it left a nickel size hole in the fabric on the chair. The burn is NOT covered under warranty so spray the fabric with a flame retardant if you buy it. It is a comfortable chair for sporting events. Caring bag has backpack straps which is awesome. For being advertised as a camping chair I wouldn’t bring it to anything where there there will be a flame, such as a grill or fire.

Perfect for the sidelines on the field too

I have been waiting for a Yeti, easy to fold and easy to carry type chair. The trailhead camp chair collapses in three steps: 2 side buttons to push, back handle to pull up and folds inward. The carry bag (included) is well made like the Yeti backpacks, and with a zipper. So far I have taken this to the athletic fields over my back like a backpack and my drink fits nicely. It's very light weight. There's a nice handle at the top to pull it out from the trunk or a shelf. No more buying a chair for one season. No silly draw string bags that rip at the bottom. This durable chair will last many seasons. I'm looking forward to adding accys if they make it.

Nearly Perfect Chair

The first thing I want to say is that this is the most durable, stable, and comfortable camping chair I have ever used. I am an avid solo & group camper/adventurer and this chair ticked all the boxes. The reason this isn't a 5 star review is because the smell of a day long campfire stays absolutely locked into this mesh fabric. I followed the general care instructions exactly as described a few times over the course of a couple days and nothing worked to remove the smell. Since this chair is so expensive, I didn't want to use any harsh cleaning products in fear of damaging the mesh. I am going to leave it outside in the rain for a few days and try again but for now this has become a seasonal "patio chair" only.

This is a very good chair!

I’ve owned this chair for a few years now. I purchased it after sitting in one at an REI in northern Virginia. I am short 5’6” and overweight. My other camp chairs while great didn’t my feet to reach the ground if I fully sat in the chair. This chair I can comfortably sit in. When not camping in the RV the chair were set up out side near my grill or fire pit. So I used it year around taking them down only for bad storms. In Va I did move them so they would be out of the sun. I’m now in Tucson and they get morning sun in until around 11AM. Yes they cost a lot. To me they are worth every penny. I am about to order a second one for the porch instead of buying less expensive deck chairs. The first chair has no issues other than it’s often occupied by someone else. REI reward dollars to the rescue.
