Amazing hat, runs big
This hat is a really flattering shape and size, and I've found it useful for all kinds of chilling and adventuring activities. My only issue (minus one star) is that I have a massive, man-sized melon, and the L/XL was too big even for my giant head. I normally have to buy baseball caps in men's sizes. This hat is large.

Not Functional
This hat could have been great. The brim is heavy and floppy, making it hard to see without tilting your neck. It also runs quite large. Cannot function as a sun hat unless you're planning to sit completely still, and you have really big hair to hold it up.

Order a size smaller than you think you need.

I heard it ran big, I heard it ran small. I measured my head and ordered according to the size chart. The hat that arrived is comically oversized. For the record, my head measured 22.5", so I ordered the M/L as advised by the "head circumference" section of the technical specifications. That being said, I am absolutely going to order a smaller size because the style is really flattering and the hat feels to be very nice quality! Hopefully I will be able to report back on the fit of the new hat.

Almost exactly what I wanted.

I have big curly hair, so this is a great fit, but I really wish the brim were stiff, as pictured, and not floppy. The fit, color, and neck strap make it so close to being what I want, I’ve decided for the reasonable price I’m going to keep it and try starching the brim.

Great Hat!

Great hat, especially because it offer a larger head size. Brim is large and the overall look of the hat is fashionable. The stampede cord is a must unless you want to chase down your hat after a wind gust.

great sun coverage

great sun coverage, strap was key. Once folded for travel, it was hard to get rid of the crease. That said, overall, this was a great hat while hiking in the sun.

Sun hat looks good with a dress or dog walking

I love this 4" brim stylish sun hat. It protects my face from sun and looks good with a dress or jeans. The second day I wore it downtown a random college student complimented me on my dress/hat outfit. The chin strap is nice for the wind, but the hat is heavy enough that if a person objected to the chin strap, it could probably be tucked up inside. There is a wire in the brim to keep the attractive shape, but in a strong breeze the brim does flip up, but it goes down again on its own. One reviewer said the forehead of her hat got sweat-stained, so I'm glad this hat is green and hopefully won't show a stain. I haven't worn it in the 80s or 90s yet, so haven't had a hot head yet, but I wish REI would sell more hats with ventilation! In recent years it's been in the 90s and 100s here, so we really need to get hats that protect us from the sun AND have ventilation for our heads. This hat runs a little small. I measured my head, but the M/L might be smaller than stated, and I wouldn't want it any tighter. A nice thing about this hat, compared to a very similar hat I own, is that the top center of the crown is stitched in a rectangle shape, instead of a circle. This means that it does NOT poke up in an unnattractive pointy dome.

Great hat, high quality.

This is a fabulous hat. Made well and attractive. However, it is not that lightweight.

Runs Huge

Looks well-made and stylish. Frustrated though because I took time to measure my head before ordering, and per the sizing chart a medium should have fit perfect. However it is so big it lands on my ears. Don't have time to send it back and will have to try to add some type of internal band to make it wearable.

excellent quality and fit

I read many reviews about this before purchasing. I do not understand how the brim would be too obstructive to your eyes unless you have a really really small head and order too big? I ordered a medium/large and it’s perfect. Just the right amount of shade for the desert heat. This will hold up very well, the material is sturdy. The strap is perfect for windy days. Very excited about the sale price I paid and that it is UPF.
