Great concept, but…
I was thrilled with this concept and bought this tool set for a 600 mile bikepacking trip, but have found the kit to have some limitations. Pros: love the tools, which feel high-quality and are fully functional and not diddly despite being conveniently sized for storage. Cons: 1. The small detachable bit heads are really easy to lose once off the magnetic handle. I spent 30 minutes finding a dropped Allen head in the grass - this is the key size for removing my wheels/adjusting the seat, so I was dedicated to finding it. You may want to carry a backup. 2. The rubber sleeves which hold the tools can be difficult to remove from your handlebars. In several instances, I put off making certain adjustments to my bike on a recent bikepacking trip because of the hassle of wrestling with getting the tubes in and out of my handlebars. Wolf tooth says not to force the tools/sleeves into the bars, but it does take a bit of wiggling to get them to seat/unseat. Unfortunately the sleeves sealed strongly to my gravel bike’s drop bars after a day of riding in the rain; they were both so stuck that I needed pliers to remove the tools from the bars, and ultimately both sleeves ripped and are no longer usable. I will no longer be placing these tools in the handlebars with the provided sleeves, although I’m keeping the tools (in my frame bag from now on) as they are high-quality and don’t take up much room. My two cents: buy some small, high-quality tools for yourself that won’t get stuck in your handlebars! Ultimately I would not buy this product again. Perhaps if the sleeves were made out of something less “sticky” the whole system would work better.
Good tool for optimal working angles
This tool is superior to any other multi tool in the sense that it provides the best on-trail tool placement options making hard to reach bolts easy to get to. Not to mention if you have to turn a bolt more than a quarter turn you dont have to remove the tool from the bolt head making some repairs faster. Things I dont like: 1) the o rings that hold the bits in the handle of the tool is not a good design. If you drop the tool while working the bits go everywhere which can be challenging depending on terrain. My suggestion to this issue is to have a concentric rotating shell(s) with a single opening to access at most 2 bits at a time, eliminating the fragile retaining solution provided by the o rings. 2) the un modified sleeves were extremely tight inside my handlebars. I trimmed mine down to the point where i was able to remove them under tool-less effort with cold fingers. They are still pretty tight in the bar ends with my modification so im not worried about them falling out while riding. (See picture) All in all the only major gripe I have with this product are the o-rings that keep the bits in place, everything else about this product is either user modifiable or spot on for what an on trail tool set should be so i recommend this tool kit.
Fits drop bars on a Kona Libre adventure bike.
This is not just for straight mountain bike handles. It goes well inside my drop handlebars (regular road bike handlebards) on my gravel bike and fits well. Now I have all the tools I need including a patch kit plus extra room in my saddle bag. Did a ride with this yesterday. No rattles at all and everything stayed in place on a off-road/gravel ride. I like that it is made in the USA and feels finely finished all around.
Works really well!!
Mine fits into my mountain bike handlebars just fine… the rings that hold them in place are a little tight but getting better with use. The tools now have little magnets holding the bits in as well as the rubber ring. Seems to work well. I used the tool pod several times today and I liked it.
Excellent Design
Been on my Stumpjumper for a couple years. They are built well and have held up to some pretty serious bar end tree smacks. They are not the easiest to remove, but for me that is like once every 6 months I need a tool on the trail. I just bought a gravel bike, I am getting the same tools for the Wolf Tooth pump.
Good idea, bad implementation
Did not fit in the handlebars of my mountain bike. The bits are small and difficult to get out of the tool. When they finally do release from the tool, they are small and easy to drop and lose.
Innovative gear
Not entirely intuitive to use trim the wrap bit by bit, once too loose it may be a problem
