Good idea, could be better

Overall, I like this item. It could use a few tweaks to make it a GREAT item. A few extra snaps on the side would be nice, and I plan on adding those myself. It would be great to have access to the kangaroo pocket from inside the poncho, allowing you to stay bundled up and still reach your necessary items. It is inexcusable that the hood doesn't have a drawstring. That's truly some lazy execution when it comes to design. The hood also has a strange "conehead" shape to it. I wouldn't mind having an option for a "long" or "tall" version, because I'd like it to cover more of my legs while sitting in the stands. Finally, the water "resistant" material is nice, but waterproof would be excellent. When the "resistance" runs out, who wants to sit in a soaked poncho, blanket, or anything for that matter? I'm 5'10 and 280, and it covers me pretty well.

Loved it so much I bought 2

I got rid of my sleeping bag after getting so tired of dealing with cleaning and refluffing down feathers. Also don't want to hurt my feathered friends. I like synthetic insulation the best now. I like truly water resistant loft that keeps u warm even if it's wet. I like things that dry fast and are easy to clean/ maintain. I like not having a ""bunch of stuff"". I like not having to think much. This poncho works great for all the above, and then some. I wear it all the time/ pass out in it/ sleep in it. Love the pockets (very deep zippered one and the hands warmer one). I only wish it was in ALL BLACK. If you wash it heavy, the dwr waterproofing comes off and you have to reapply it (easy). WASH IT COOL EASY MILD SETTING OR HANDS. I bought two cause it's a nice blanket but would need 2 in the 40 temps. Two will be nice and warm maybe into low 40's. If it gets that cold, I use this and a puffy hooded jacket to sleep in. The snaps are nice. I'd like them to be on all corners. I'd like it to have straps to hook it as an under quilt on a hammock. I'd like to have a drawstring at the bottom like they're blankets do. I'd like to be able to connect these together. With this poncho, really you don't need to even wear anything else (yes no shirt or shorts). I'd like to see this be the only thing people wear, as it's so simple. If it's really cold I also wear some simple tights. I highly recommend crocs. I've been wearing this for about 3 weeks now. It makes you feel like a Jedi. People have asked me what it was and where I got it in public yes. The grey one is thankfully darker then the pic above. Obviously this is the future now. You have to learn how to move in it if ur doing complicated things. It makes a nice picnic blanket. I'd suggest getting 2 of them. Please make a black one!!

Love

I live on a sailboat. I wanted something for cold morning when I don’t want to put on layers. This is nearly perfect. It’s not great in the wind though. The material is thin but it’s very warm. I wish it had a drawstring on the hood. I also wish the snaps were easier to reach. Other than that I’m going to keep looking my honcho poncho for curling up with a book or coffee in the cold weather. Btw, I purchase three different ponchos from Rei and this is the one I choose. Others were no good.

More uses than a Swiss Army knife!

I bought the honcho poncho to take camping to keep the wife warm over Easter, but little did I know just how often we would use it. From a ground sheet inside the tent when the floor leaked, to wrapping our 8month old up in when doing the midnight dash to the toilet, to watching an outdoor theatre in the middle of the U.K. summer and it still looks like new. Even when dripping wet it took no time at all to dry. The built in pocket makes it into a great pillow too. The only think to make it better would to reduce the price a bit (but the price hasn't stopped us ordering a second one.

Pretty Versatile Piece of Gear

Most of the comments here have pretty much covered the pro's so I will list a few cons/improvements 1. More snaps to adjust the size of the arm hole 2. A hoody draw string

The Honcho Poncho is everything.

Awesome for snow camping, does double duty as a sleeping bag liner for extra warmth.

Just love it!

We feel so fortunate to have found 2 of these. We wear them at home to cut the chill in the mid of winter and sitting around the cool evening campfire. They also work, opened up, as a top cover when sleeping while camping on cold, cold nights. The only "watch out" we might state is that when wearing it as a poncho, it "flutters" out from the corners and can get caught in places or waft into undesired places (fires, food, etc), so take care about that.

New favourite breast feeding accessory

The Honcho Poncho lives in my truck all the time because I never want to not have it. It is perfect for chilly nights and mornings at camp and we've used it snowshoeing in the winter also. It will be heavily used this fall during hunting season while glassing and sitting and waiting. It is also so perfect for breastfeeding in the winter. You and baby can stay toasty warm while they eat! It's the greatest thing ever.

Won't Go Camping Without It

People often make comments about the unusualness of my Honcho Poncho and I won't go camping without it. I hate being cold when I'm camping and the Honcho Poncho is the only thing I have found that keeps me warm in the evenings. I like how it packs into the big front pocket. And it is light and packs down to take up very little weight and space allotment. Thanks ThermARest for a well designed and useful product.

multifunctional

This is a multifunctional poncho with great colors. It's nice that it can also lay flat as a blanket to add extra warmth over a sleeping bag. The poncho is well made, lightweight, roomy, and the hood is large enough for my head. I can get my head through the neckhole without taking off my glasses. It's not difficult to stuff back into the pocket. If you like the loose fit of a poncho, this is a good option.
