Leaving this, because I'm confused by the other reviews. I used this for 6+ years on a college campus and never had anybody even try to steal my bike. A roommate had his bike stolen within weeks using a different lock. As with every lock, the main point is a deterrent. You still need to lock up your bike properly and not leave it in a low-traffic area for a long time. I found this lock makes it easy to lock up the rear wheel and frame to a bike stand, which is the proper way. It also folds up easily and tucks into the stand, so you can quickly pop on and off. For commuting I found it ideal. I bought another one for a different bike and have had zero issues.
Mounted the Bordo 5700 uGrip on my road bike, went out for a ride and two things happened: 1) It rattled over every bump and 2) I bunny hopped to get over a puddle and the center bars popped out of the holder. The holder has a spring loaded clamp (uGrip) and while it held secure, it doesn't encircle the bars. The lock was still attached, but the clamp arms only hold the bars on the outside of the folded unit—The inner bars can pop out if jarred. I also discovered that this unit has one fatal and absolutely unacceptable flaw—it can be opened in literally two seconds with a metal shim. Discovered that fact on the Lock-Picking Lawyer's YouTube channel. Returned this lock after one use.
Got 2 bikes stolen while using this, very easily clipped
lock can be bypassed in 2 seconds with a thin piece of metal
Does absolutely nothing. Bike got stolen. Now I’m down a ton of money because of this cheap product. And the holder that you clip it too wears out after only a few months. If you hit a bump it flies out sometimes into traffic. I couldn’t recommend a worse product.
Folds up small. Quite light. Nice and portable. Does not take up much bag or pocket space. Surprisingly easy to fold and unfold, given the amount of links. At first the lock did not disengage well on opening, but i lubed the innards and its better.
I had this lock for three years, and it served me very well for that time while commuting to school. I live in a college town with a high bike theft rate and had no problem until 2 weeks ago. When I came out from studying my bike was gone, assumingly stolen, along with the lock. Im not sure if it was clipped or picked, but I'm going to guess it was picked since they took it with them. I would have recommended it until this point, security is not as high as I would have liked, I will be buying a more secure lock in the future.
I’m not sure why there are negative reviews on this lock. I’ve been using this for several years now and it’s great. I like that it folds up and I’ve never had any issues with the vagrants trying to cut it and take off with my bike. I highly recommend it
I wear these with my Vibram five-fingers and the fit is perfect also they give the shoe a little more cushion.
