So much fun!! It's worth every penny!
This bike is AMAZING! I'm in love! It is so comfortable and fun. I am so so so glad I opted for the ebike version. I'm using this bike so much more often than I would otherwise, and it's becoming a legitimate replacement for my car for many types of trips -- something I used to think of as impossible here in north Dallas. The Plano store mangement and bike dept. was extremely helpful and friendly when a shipping issue arose (wasn't their fault!) and they went above and beyond to fix it. They kept me up to date and helped me with my questions. I'd never shopped at REI before but it's definitely my go-to moving forward. Thanks!
Handling is difficult but the ride is smooth.
I find that the battery being mounted on the back rack makes the rear top heavy. It is difficult to make tight turns/lean in because the weight makes the bike tip over. I cannot imagine what it will be like after I add the wire baskets to it. Also, be aware that you need to disengage the power assist before you try to stop the bike. If you inadvertently turn the pedals after letting off the brake, the bike will take off without you. The 'one size fits most' does not fit a 5'2" person very well. Once you have adjusted the seat for 'flat foot', the handle bars are a reach. All that said, the ride is very smooth and the power assist is quiet and gives just enough boost to get up grades. The speed is very controllable.
Great for smooth streets!
This is a step thru bike and great on smooth streets and paved greenways. Only had it 3 days. Anything more than a short curb drop will vibrate a lot. Local REI store did great job assembling. The torque sensor controller does a great job of making this a more natural biking experience compared to my other cadence sensor ebike. I added cheap led lights from my parts stash. I had to buy a wireless horn with a separate button immediately. Horn is stashed in small bike bag. Minimum seat height is 30 inches. I weighed it and stated weight of 48 lb is accurate with battery. Battery weighs about 4 lb. I really like it for wife. When she gets more experience she can write her own review.
Cute bike that rides well - great design!
This is the best e-bike and a really good price for tons of fun. I rode it alot this first summer on longer rides. In four sections I rode round trip from Mankato to Sakatah which is about 78 miles. I really enjoyed being able to go further since I'm a 73 woman without as much stamina and I used to have.
Happy Biker
This bike has a lot of get up and go, but it can easily be ridden without using the assist at all. It’s light enough and easy to pedal for us late 60 year olds. I can get it on my bike rack by myself because it doesn’t feel as heavy as I thought it would be. It rode well on the dirt road as well as the paved. The best part is flying up the hills. The price was good also.
I can keep up with my husband!
I love my new bike. I like to get exercise but when I’m on a steep hill trying to keep up with my husband the pedal assist is very useful! I feel like I can choose the amount of effort I want to exert. I have been on some 30 plus mile rides and the seat is comfortable enough for me. I have ridden it on paved, dirt and gravel paths. Highly recommended!
Flat Foot Technology!
I am an active 72 year old woman, but hadn't ridden a bike much in the past 30 years, so I would consider myself a beginner bike rider. I was concerned about making stops when my feet didn't reach the ground, except when on tip toe. I felt that I needed a bit more stability to feel comfortable making stops. When I discovered the Electra, Flat Foot Technology, I knew that was the bike for me. I was a bit concerned about the battery being mounted in the back, which some reviewers felt caused falling when making sharp turns. I haven't found that to be a problem. Due to Covid, there was a shortage of models of the Townie, and I really hoped for the newer Townie 5i, as it definitely is an upgrade from the 7d. Because of a long wait for the 5i, I decided to go ahead with the 7d and I am not sorry. I specifically wanted an electric bike with pedal assist only, NO throttle. We live on a steep hill and I have no problem in Power Level 3 getting up the hill. There is no shock absorption in the 7d, which I miss on bumpier roads. I feel that for my needs, this was a great purchase.
My sky blue Townie
I love my bike! The biggest challenge has been getting used to the weight of the e bike. Going up hills is a breeze and I’m averaging 20 to 23 miles on each ride without feeling wiped out! I def recommend this bike .
I really love it!
Good quality, good looking, and fun. A great choice for me (older, overweight, out of shape!) but fun for ANYBODY. Plenty of power but not scary at all. Love that I can put my feet flat on the ground when stopped.
Everything I wanted in a bike
It is just the bike we wanted. Easy step through, large seat, open pedals all in an Ebike.
