This sleeping bag is everything. I have two 12 pound terrier mixes who are great adventurers but definitely need proper gear to keep warm and love burrowing in blankets. I bought this (the Medium size) before taking them backpacking for their first time. The second I brought it out in the tent, both of them climbed in together and curled up, they don't even care if they can see the opening- they love caves. I knew they'd be climbing in our sleeping bags if they didn't have their own blanket. I also rely on this as somewhere comfy/clean/warm for them to sit on/in when just hanging out at camp or taking a picnic stop on a hike, making food or doing dishes, setting up/taking down camp, eating... They have a place they are totally content to hang out and won't be trying to climb in our laps or be anxious in transition times. I can't understate how much my dogs and I love this sleeping bag. It's easy to keep clean- dirt shakes off well and moisture doesn't accumulate. 10/10 would recommend.

To heavy for what it is.

The bag itself is fine. My dog would not go into the bag. She used it like a dog bed not willing to be covered. The reason I did not like this bag is for the size of the bag it’s on the heavy side. I wish there was a down version available. This small bag weighs more than my sleeping system. I know for many that is not an issue but carrying this for twenty miles per day over hundreds of miles is to much for me. I purchased a low cost down blanket and had it cut and modified, It weighs well under a pound. For many this will a great bag just not for me .

Functional, washes well, tough

I would have swore my dog would never use a sleeping bag. When temperatures dipped to 42 he was more than ready to give it a try, and since that first cold night has used it regularly, even after returning home. I gave it 4/5 stars b/c it wasn’t warm enough for him; I would wake to find him under my covers, snuggled up to my side. As I made breakfast in the mornings and a lap wasn’t available & he would turn to his sleeping bag. Hard to make a perfect dog bag, but this proved very functional. This piece is now part of my stock (car) camping gear. For reference, my dog is a 17 lb Cavalier/Poodle.

It's better than my bag

I have been eyeing this bag up for a couple of years, and finally purchased it in a size large as we were planning some early spring camping trips which are cold in Minnesota. Newt doesn't typically enjoy being under blankets at home but he curled right up in this. It was 30s and raining/snowing most of the weekend. I also bought the sleeping pad which fits underneath. The material feels durable, and even with a wet dog the bag never felt wet. Dirt wipes right off. When I would reach in the bag to pet Newt it was significantly warming in his bag than it was in mine (mountain hardware spark, rated to 35). My only complaint is that it barely fits in the palisades medium pack, the pack has to be completely empty to fit this in one side. Being that ruffwear advertises that the bag fits in the pack I assumed it would fit nicely, with at least the included water resevoirs. I assume that the size large pack is slightly bigger and it probably packs better in there but I don't know this. My sister has the medium size sleeping pad for her dog and I that fits better into Newts pack, but he is a big dog, very tall and in between a large and medium harness size. All in all I am very glad I purchased this for him, I will just need to be a little more creative when packing my bag and carry this for him.

Works great for my dog

I used this bag for all my backpacking trips this summer and my dog loves it. Most recently we got caught in a snow storm at 12k feet and my dog climbed in, I zipped him up and he stayed in the bag all night. Your milage may vary, but my dog loves sleeping under blankets at home so didn't mind being zipped up in this. He's a 60 lb pointer/pit mix and he had plenty of room in the large to get up and turn around in it while zipped. It's heavier than I would like, but with dog toenails and potentially wet paws, I think a synthetic bag is a safer bet than down. Easy to wipe clean after your trip.

Charlie Mike loves it

My dog absolutely loves this bed!! I have it for about a week and he has laid on it and gotten in it everyday. I car camp so I am not worried about the weight although I understand those who do need to be weight conscious. The zipper is a bit small for the sleeping bag. I think you might consider having like an outside bivy sack so those who need something for colder weather could use it as an add-on. Overall I love the bag and pad. I am camping in April which can be cold here and we can also very snow (hopefully not). Ruffwear products are very dependable. Thank you for making this product.

Awesome!

I tried this out at home for a few weeks and my 30 lb shepherd mix would lie on it but did NOT want to be inside. But then we went camping and temps got down to mid 30s and he was extremely happy to be zipped inside! He was also wearing a jacket and wanted to be in a pile of blankets. So cute!

Love this bag!

This bag is fantastic! My GSP and her little poodle sister love it. Kept them warm down to about 40 degrees (with sweaters and a pad). Below that I had to put a quilt over them. That is about their backpacking limit anyway. It’s a bit bulky and heavier than my bag but worth it to be able to take the dogs and have them also be comfortable. Great quality bag that I expect to get many years of use out of. Thanks, Ruffwear!

My dogs haven't even been able to try this out!

The cat claimed this when I opened the box and the dogs haven't had a chance to even try it out. It seems well-made and stuffs down small. Since the cat goes camping with us, I guess it's now his (note tail sticking out in photo).

Dogs Are Worth It

Our 20lb dog loves this (Medium size) and stays in it all night, which had not happened tent-camping before using other blankets or our puncture-ready air-filled pads. Worth the weight for synthetic down that'll keep her warm even if wet. Got the separate mat that fits in the bottom sleeve for added insulation, but we also once stuffed 2 Thermarest Z-Seats in the sleeve when we forgot the mat, and those worked well and stayed in place. Haven't found a synthetic down option with compression sack that is as durable as this. Works great as a day mat outside the tent as well; easy to clean.

My dog loves being inside it!

I expected Greyson to not really want to stay inside it to begin with. I encouraged him to lay down, zipped him up, and now he won't leave.
