I just finished walking 500 miles across Spain on El Camino De Santiago in these. I watched over and over as my fellow pilgrims had to toss their shoes due to breakdowns, blisters and discomfort. The blister scene was insane and I was only one of three people of the dozens I walked with who came out blister free. They were perfect for the change of terrain (although they definitely wore down on the outer edges - could have to do with asphalt), kept my feet nice and cool in the heat and they were never sweaty. Most people toss their shoes once they reach the church in Santiago but I couldn’t do it. They were the tool that took me across Spain. Amazing.
These survived 479 miles hiking the Camino across Spain 2021. : -) No blisters.
These are my workhorse adventure shoes for trail half marathons, short hikes, and multi-day backpacking trips. I adore them. I’m a bit of a klutz (especially when I’m tired) and I love that your toes are well protected from bumps with some solid material. There’s some ankle support without being too clunky. Obviously the fit of shoes is quite personal, but I’ve gone through several pairs over a few years without ever having a break-in period or blisters. I highly recommend this non-GTX option for quicker drying after river crossings.
Every since I bought my first pair of Salomon Missions, I have been the brand's biggest cheerleader! I told everyone I knew that Salomon was the absolute best trail shoe, and I pointed many friends, as well as students, to the brand. I ran through many versions of the Mission, followed by years of the Speedcross and eventually the Supercross. I have been searching for a new Salomon shoe that looks, feels, and performs as amazing as all of my (too many to count) previous ones, and I can not find one. I am sooo bummed!! I have spent hours online searching for previous models of my favorite shoes, hoping to find some still out there, but I have come up empty. Strangely enough, I kinda feel like I've lost an old friend, ha! I am currently wearing old worn-out Supercrosses because I didn't want to find a new shoe love, but I guess I'm going to have to. Unless, of course, you BRING BACK the classics.
I bought these after realizing my Merrell moabs were just a tad too small and hurting my toes. I've been hiking for about a year and a half and am mostly hiking in Glacier or the Cascades anywhere from 5-15 miles and up to 3,000 ft in gain. Granted, I've only been on one hike so far in these new shoes, but WOW they were amazing. I didn't have to break them in at all. They did me so well on a 12 mile hike with 2,000 ft. gain. I like them because they are on the lighter side, but still have excellent support and a really sturdy bottom. My foot size is a true 7. I bought these in an 8 because I have issues going downhill with my toes getting smushed. I'd say these run a little small and I would size up 1/2 a size to a full size.
Absolutely love these shoes. Never have I had a shoe that feels so comfortable out of the box. Very breathable, wore this for a 3 mile hike in 90 degree weather and had no issues. Only negative is that the inside of the tongue rubs a bit and causes chaffing if you don’t have tall enough socks. Definitely wear above ankle socks. Also these run a bit large. My size is 7 but I also wear an 8 in running shoes/hiking shoes because my feet swell. I got a 7.5 and they fit like an 8.
I bought these to replace the previous model, which served me well. Unfortunately, the design has been changed so much they are not the same shoes. They are bulky, too much room in the toe box, the tongue is too large and stiff and literally cut into my ankle. Just overall disappointing.
So far I have pit about 50 miles on these shoes without any blisters. The shoe hugs my foot nicely but you do need socks that go to your ankle. The tongue of the shoe has a pouch for the shoes lace cord but it rubs on your ankle without socks that go to the ankle. I do wish that the inner sole had more cushion, its not that it is hard rather it is firm. Cushioning is the only thing I would change about these shoes, that's why only 4 stars.
I used the XA Comp shoes for years and absolutely loves them. I was really disappointed that this line was discontinued, but was told that these were the closest equivalent. I couldn’t even really try these out because the lacing on top of the toe box puts a lot of pressure on my big toes, which i know would give me blisters if i wore them more than walking around my house. Was feeling super hopeful because I loved my old Salomons, and it seems like most people don’t have this problem, but this weird lace design definitely doesn’t work for me.
I ordered a few different pairs of Salomon hiking shoes as these were recommended but two friends who are avid hikers and have very different feet. The Isolite cushioning makes these very comfortable. I ordered 1/2 size up and wear athletic socks with them and they do not feel too large. Good for trail running as well. They are stylish enough that I've incorporated them into my "athleisure" look as well.
