Almost perfect

The stove very compact when folded and pretty large when unfolded, just want I wanted for my space savings camp setup. The materials quality is great and performance is amazing too. My only complaint I have is it's a little tricky to fold and unfold every time which is not a big deal when you get used to it but it needs you to follow a process. The folding/unfolding mechanism could be simplified. And also because the burner is large, it won't fit very small camping pots. See the sepcs for details. But otherwise it looks like it'll last several years to come when used with care. there is no built in wind protection so I had to add a wind shield to my setup and now I love it.

Nice for car camping

We have used korean butane cook stoves for decades. They are good for outdoor cooking but tend to rust in our damp climate. The snow peak stove is mostly stailess around the burner so should last. The stove has one innovative feature beyond folding that makes the purchase well worth the extra expense. A copper heat sink runs from the burner to the fuel canister that keeps the butane from chilling. This chilling is a major drawback in this type of stove and is much improved with this design.

A Single-Burner Butane Stove with some upgrades

Why a Butane Stove? A micro isobutane burner will work just fine for boiling water, but for me, the larger butane stoves are the choice for using larger pans and pots. In addition, the 8oz cans of butane for this stove are much cheaper than 8oz cans of isobutane, especially in bulk. Therefore, the combination of larger cookware and cheaper fuel means that the butane stove is my choice for "serious" cooking with canisters. There are a lot of single burner butane stoves out there, and most if not all of them share a similar design. A nicer budget unit will usually come with a plastic carrying case and have a magnetic butane canister attachment. However, the Snow Peak Butane Stove innovates in several areas that go quite a ways beyond the field of $25-50 butane stoves. First, and most importantly, this stove folds into a fairly small volume. While most other butane stoves are around 10x14x4.5", the Snow Peak folds into a unit about 3.5"x4.5" in cross section and 10" high. It's not particularly light, however, and feels rather hefty at 3.1 lbs, but this is about as much as the lightest standard butane stoves and more than a pound lighter than most other butane stoves on the market. Unfolded, the stove is actually somewhat larger than other butane stoves. This places the butane bottle (and its plastic body components) further from the burner. This also aids in stability. The butane bottle attachment is magnetic, which is actually very slick. It has a safety mechanism that only allows you to attach the butane canister to the stove when the burner control is in the "off" position. One unique feature to this stove is the addition of a large copper heat guide that is built in such a way that it cradles the butane canister and then extends into the burner area. This is meant to warm the butane bottle as it empties, and it is very useful feature - especially for folks who plan to use this stove in the cold (butane just doesn't vaporize well at sub-zero temperatures, and the fact that liquid hydrocarbon canisters cool as they are emptied doesn't help.) You must be fairly gentle with the stove when unfolding it. If it's your first time, be very careful with the process. Unfolding the stove is easy to do once you learn the process, but it is rather unintuitive for someone who has never done it before. Because of the way the stove is designed, a clumsy move could probably damage the stove if you force it to move in a way it's not supposed to. There are some things I'd like to see improved. A soft carry case would be nice to have included with the stove. A small bit of heat resistant plastic on the legs near the base would be nice, as the user can scrape the copper heat sink with the legs slightly when folding if you aren't careful. This doesn't actually cause any problems, but it is kind of cosmetically noticeable when you find a few shallow scratches on the copper heat sink. Non-issues, really. The stove is actually very, very well made and uses premium materials - stainless steel, copper, etc. If you plan to be very rough with your equipment, and can handle the size, non-folding butane stoves might be a better choice for you. The non-folding stoves are usually cheaper and you wouldn't feel so bad about throwing it around. But if you want a well made butane stove that can fold down to a size about as small as a butane stove can get, the Snow Peak is the one to buy.

great with large cookware

This is a super nice stove and easy to use but was too big for any of my backpacking cookware. Not a big deal if car camping and you grab some of your regular pots and pans.

Compact with good control

The plus: compact, good flame control, efficient fuel consumption. The minus: flame flickers when exposed to wind, stove base opening is huge so backpacking pots slip through, must use car camp style/size kitchen pans/pots only.

Nice and sturdy. Probably last for many years

This unit is very similar the cheapie or even brand name butane portable stoves. But the metal work is much more rugged and appears to be good quality stainless steel including the burner. This stove is much more expensive than the usual portables and more complicated to set up. It takes a bit of practice before you can unfold and repack this stove since the support arms etc all fold up or slide into place. You can't just plug in a cartridge and go. The magnetic cartridge attachment takes some learning to use. Not like the cheap stoves which have a lever and notch to lock the cartridge in place. This one just slides into place and the magnetic donut connects to the rim of the cannister. You have to try iot a fesw times before you get the hang of it, but after that, it's a cinch. This stove replaces a Coleman butane stove. I love Coleman products but that stove literally melted the aluminum burner head during my first outing. I was trying to boil a 1 quart pot of water. It seemed to take a long time and then I noticed the burner was lopsided, it had melted. Each time I used it the lopsidedness and flame pattern got worse, so i returned that stove. This Snow Peak was purchased to replace that Coleman and was chosen because the stove appeared sturdier(it is) and I like Snow Peak products. Only negative is that the burner pot supports are a bit too wide spaced for smaller pots. I was unable to use a couple backpacker size pots and "kettles". Had to use one of those Czech surplus pot sets. I would but this one again if I ever needed to, but it is expensive. But a cheap stove that dies after a couple campouts gets to be very expensive.

fits anywhere in the van

I got only got french and spanish instructions in the box, but whatever, not a big deal to aber la couverture del cartucho, set up the pot stand and get started. My snow peak titanium backpacking pot juuust fits with careful centering. I can also use the saute pans from the house. Started right up and does work in a stiff wind but I will definitely add a collapsible windscreen for fuel efficiency/speed in windy conditions

Awesome at home and afar

This has been great as the weather has been getting chillier as a table-top burner, as well as when camping because of its sheer portability. Do wish that it had a bag to go with it, but everything fits well in the metal body so not as much of an issue.
