REI lacks environmental awareness
These may be a good product, but it is unconsciable that a coop that prides itself on bring environmental conscious ship this tiny item in a big box!!! Please take a look at the photo.

Never, Never, Never stop walking!!!

My Trekking poles were my most important hiking and backpacking equipment. Across the U.S.A. and around the world. Now in my older age I depend on them for stability as I walk every day. Still my most important gear! I threw away my cane. I will never use a walker. I always treasure my REI trekking poles. They go everywhere I go. Collapse to fit in baggage or store under the dining table. Extend to walk. I keep extra walking tips to replace the worn tips on my poles. They get a lot of wear. It seems like a weekly thing that I share my REI Trekking pole story with people struggling with their walkers and canes. I let them hold both poles to compare with the clumsy weight and size of their gear. Their faces burst into amazement when they hold incredibly strong and lightweight carbon fiber and titanium. I tell them how to get to the nearest REI store and website.

Check Hole Size

Hole not 13 mm diameter. I measured it as about 10 mm. Doesn't seem like much of a difference but bought to fit on tip of old Sierra Designs walking stick, won't go on all the way.

Wouldn't be without them

I have three pair - one at home, one in the car and one in my pocket (or on my poles.) They are that useful. Especially around town. On the trail. they come off when trail is on dirt. But on when trail is rocky. Keeps the poles from slipping. Don't be fooled by cheap non-REI rubber tips. They are made of cheap ersatz rubber that has no grip.

As Expected

Does the job; fits on my REI trekking poles. It’s one of those things that I wish came along with the poles themselves, or perhaps offered as a package deal, rather than being a separate purchase that someone needs to research and be aware of.

Great poles!

I bought these trekking poles to help me get around on uneven terrain and for added stability in local walking. They are lightweight but sturdy, and work great! Very comfortable and easy to use. They are collapsible so fit easily in my suitcase and have already accompanied me on two trips. Note that the locks on the joints can tighten or loosen, so it’s important to know how to adjust those - the salesman didn’t tell me about that. I am 68, with 2 knee replacements. These really help with balance and gait stability. They are also good for walks on flat surfaces. Highly recommended!

Best trekking pole tips I have tried

I have off brand hiking poles and seem to lose rubber tips often even when I am trying g to pay attention. I I have used these tips now on several hikes and haven’t lost them or had them come off once. I double check every time a pole gets wedged in between rocks but they stay an and we’re definitely worth the cost!!!

Tips for the trail

I think the poles should come with the tips already, but these are easy to attach and work great.

A Tip on Tips

Walking tips wear out over time and need to be replaced. REI sells them as regular stock items.

Cues

The salesperson at local REI store recommended getting the protectors even if don’t need it for trekking. He said it will prevent the poles from damaging the baggage in air travel. The poles can not be carried as carry on in a flight. Salesperson also cautioned not to use these on muddle soil as it will get sucked in. Thankful for those suggestions. Get them when buying your trekking poles.
