I read a lot of reviews before snagging this tent during the Memorial Day sale and I'm SO happy with it! Spent two nights in the high desert with it and am so pleased. It's extremely easy to set up, the attached footprint makes it a breeze, and it's super roomy for one person plus a dog and a bag. The doors on either side are a really useful feature, and the rain fly has these really cool adjustable velcro bars so it can vent air from the top while it's on. The second night I used it was super windy with some rain buffeting against the tent and we were warm and dry inside. Get this tent - it's awesome!
I bought this tent for a month long camping hiking backpacking trip through Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. In the 4th night three of the metal eyeholes, where the tent pole ends go through, broke. There was no wind or storms, just reallly calm weather. Now the corners of the tent ride up the tent poles.
Just got a passage 2 tent for my graduation present this past may and used it for two weeks straight in the dolly sods wilderness. It was 90 degrees and blazing hot one day and 59 degrees the next with down pouring rain for most of the day. It stayed dry the whole time and I love it! Cons: it doesn't come with one of those top gear nets and it doesn't have gear pockets on both sides of the tent so you have to pick the correct side for your head if you want easy access. At 5lbs you could split the gear with a partner and make it light weight. But it is a bit heavy but overall a solid product that held up well with a dirtbag living out of it.
This is a really good, basic tent. It is light weight for car camping. It is very easy to set up, and can be done by one person. I wish the stakes were better, but it is a budget priced tent so that's to be expected. I used it as a single person tent and it had quite a bit of space. I fit my pack inside the tent even though I had a vestibule. I did not use the footprint. I felt the tent was good in keeping out the heat while providing adequate airflow. As a backpacking tent, this is on the bigger and heavier side. It is doable, but it will take up more space in your pack and is about 2+ lbs heavier than similar tents for backpacking. However, it is half the cost of the other tents so you have your tradeoff. Overall, it is excellent for what it is meant to be: a basic tent
I purchased this last year for a July 3-day camping trip in/around Blue Ridge Mountains. It was very easy to set up (and take down) and it stayed dry on the day it was raining lightly. It fit my sleeping pad and sleeping bag as well as my pack and the flaps opened far enough to provide coverage for my shoes and anything dirtier than I wanted to bring into the tent. I did use a separate I will be taking it again in October so am looking forward to using it in cooler weather.
Very impressed with this tent after just two uses. Super easy setup (although the instructions are on a flap in the bag which is convenient and thoughtful). I love the double door / double vestibule design, and the pop up vent poles on top. My son and I used on a warm spring night and got tested by a wicked thunderstorm in the middle of the night. We were dry and snug, no problem! The weight is great for backpacking. Size was ok for 1 adult and 10 year old, would be snug with two adults, but could work if enough gear is left outside. And if you lay head to foot as it is set up. Overall - I’m really impressed and happy with it. I hope to take on many adventures.
My brother bought a Passage 2 tent in early 2020, and the construction and materials were far more robust on that version than the current version. This one has a cheap plastic-y fabric, the bottom is not going to last long even with the "floor" and the seams at the bottom of the tent are TAPED together. This version also has fewer pockets on the inside of the tent. The way the doors align with the doors on the rain fly are also slightly misaligned. Overall, it's not a "bad" tent, it's just much cheaper quality than what I was expecting. I would exchange it, except there's not a ton of other options at the moment. I don't expect this to last very long...
I purchased a Passage 2 in 2015 and absolutely love it. I have spent many nights in the older version without issue. I love my 2015 version so much that in 2021 I bought three additional Passage 2 tents for my sons, not realizing that the design had changed. They have each used their 2021 version a handful of times and one of them has experienced two of the corner grommets falling out. After this happened, I went back to the reviews and sure enough, this is not an uncommon problem with the redesigned Passage 2. Bring back the quality of the older Passage 2. It was a great tent and was very durable. The current Passage 2 is obviously cheaply manufactured.
Bought this tent earlier this month. Didn’t know the big sale was upcoming so paid the full $159 for it!! Nonetheless, this tent is excellent. If you can get it now for $109, BUY IT!! Now!! Spent 4 nights in it including one night of absolute torrential rain and it was just as advertised. No leaks, good air flow, essentially zero condensation. Set up was short and sweet. You do need 4 additional stakes in order to put out the guy lines - 6 included but takes 10 to stake down tent and lines too. Can’t recommend this tent highly enough. Admittedly am new to the REI community but if this tent is any indication of their products and pricing, will be a long time supporter for sure!!
For such an inexpensive tent, it really proves itself worthy. Just took it backpacking this weekend for the first time and I was super super happy. We were in the pouring rain for about 16 hours in the tent, and stayed completely dry and warm. It was nice that the rainfly creates a little space to keep stuff sheltered outside the tent. And decent room for two people, we didn't end up hating each other or rolling on top of each other all night :) It's definitely not the lightest tent on the market if that's what you're after, but easily fit in my pack and barely noticed it. Quick and straightforward to set up, and feel like it's gonna last.
