Perfect Bundle – Each Piece is Great!
Great bundle of camping gear! I used this bundle with my partner to travel across the country, and we were so pleased with each piece. The tent was big enough to fit us both, and we are both quite tall (5' 9" and 6' 1"). The rain fly kept us dry while it rained at night or was dewey in the morning. The tent is tall enough to sit up easily, and big enough to change in, as well. The tent does not have a lot of space for extra stuff while sleeping 2 people, but there was room for a few things at our feet and heads. The tent had fairly good ventilation, as well, and was easy to stake, especially in the wind. The tent and sleeping bag kept me warm, like when it dropped into the low 30º's one night, but also could stay cool, like when it stayed in the upper 60º's another night. The sleeping bag was comfortable to sleep in zipped up, or as a sort of 'blanket', and stays clean easily. I am a side-sleeper and the sleeping pad was comfortable for me, which was something I was worried about initially but all my worries were calmed after sleeping on this pad for a whole week. Highly recommend this bundle. This is a great intro bundle for a great price. Each piece is great, separately and together.
So great
Tent, pad, and bag are all great. I've been on two trips with them so far, both in Southern California. Haven't had any problems with the zippers like others mentioned. Bag is more than warm in 45 degree weather, the pad takes less than a minute to inflate fully, and the tent is super easy to set up, and my partner and I (both under 5'9") fit wonderfully. The whole package is compact, lightweight, and really great for car camping or backpacking. It's easy to compact all the items, and their stuff sacks arent a struggle either. All of this in tandem with the price for a 2p tent, a great pad, a sleeping bag, AND a tent floor for under $300 makes the product a total steal.
On the river. Everything fit in my kayak.
2 trips on the rver. Everything was great. Enjoyed all items
Great value for a beginners set
Purchased this for a early season backpacking trip in Northern Wisconsin. The tent is very easy to setup, though I did purchase higher quality stakes. Took my time setting it up and grommets and zippers stayed intact. Like anything else, be gentle and you won’t have issues. Experienced some heavy downpours and 20-25 mph winds in the overnight and not a drop of water inside the tent. The pad is ok and held air fine, but isn’t particularly comfortable and the mummy sack was a little on the cool side for a damp 35 degree night. All in all though, it held up great in the conditions and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to someone starting out or looking to upgrade.
Great Reliable Tent
I've owned this tent for 2 years now. I used it thru hiking with my girlfriend on the PCT in 2020. It only has 2 holes in it this far. One on the bath from a rodent and one on the tent fly. The bandaids I used on it still seal the holes to date. It's been through a few flash floods. We slept like drunks but water was literally flowing underneath us, never got wet. Survived 40 mph winds on the Maine coast a few times, no damage. Even though I thought we were going to be swept up like Dorothy. The amount and type of rain it has endured is just impressive. Again, never got wet. If you dont pop up the vent sticks it will get condensation so don't forget to ventilate. It's been to several national parks, campgrounds, primitive camps and has been a great tent 2 years in. It's been used cross country 4 times now in the coldest states. It's no snow tent but it will protect you from the elements. Although in snow it held up great. It's been used well over 100 times with no issues. Its easy to set up with only 2 poles and comes with everything you need. I love this tent and all the memories I have in it.I can't wait for my next pitch.
Great Starter Pack!
I bought this as a beginner, someone would never slept in a tent, let alone a sleeping bag. I have big plans of being a real backpacker someday… But I wanted to start small and I thought this would be a good way to test out gear in the field to understand what works and what doesn’t for me. Since purchasing, I have camped out in my backyard about four nights. Tent: The tent is wonderful! Very simple set up, easy to pack and unpack, I like the dual doors. A keeper for sure, someone with not a ton of experience… I don’t have any issues with it except some sticky zippers occasionally. Pad: The pad is easy to set up and comfortable. I bought the REI pump sack to go with it and that made setting up even easier. The pad and I are not compatible because it is too narrow for my liking. I have replaced it with an Nemo Tensor Insulated Wide to fit my size requirements better, and two add some R-value. Sleeping bag: it’s a good bag, it’s sturdy, comfortable, warm enough for a summer night. Again, fit was not right for me. I found it too narrow in the hips, and did not give me enough legroom. Knowing what I know now, I have upgraded to a Nemo Disco 15 for some additional warmth and legroom. Overall: this is a great starter bundle. If you’ve never backpacked before and you need to have a system right now… This is a great value! Since my closest REI is over an hour away, I used this bundle to learn on my own and the comfort of my own backyard. I’m grateful for it!
It could have been better.
I was disappointed with my purchase. On a 6 day camping trip, my sleeping pad failed the first night. There is a hole somewhere in the pad but I’ve been unable to find it. I’m ended up having to use our outfitters pads and throwing mine back in the car. This was super unfortunate because I didn’t get a chance to get a new pad until 3 days in. My other issue was with my tent. One of the metal eyelets meant to reinforce the material where you put the tent poles in broke off as I was taking the tent down one morning.
Great Value and Quality!
I got this for backpacking the Lost Coast Trail this spring. It was just as expected, worked great for a wonderful trip.
A literal lifesaver
I'm writing this from my back porch self quarantined because I'm a nurse doing testing for the covid and refuse to bring it home. Originally I bought this set thinking my toddler and I would take it camping this summer and I would get to pass my love of the outdoors to a new generation. REI had always been there when I was a scout and needed gear so I figured this would be a good set to get back into hiking. While the fates had other plans this sale was perfectly timed. The tent is well designed easy and quick to set up, has great ventilation and plenty of room for gear in the vestibules and decent sized pockets inside. the mattress and bag are very comfortable its in the 30s and I am perfectly warm.
good enough for most
I basically bought each of these pieces separately before there was such a bundle.... and the individual item have seen upgrades since. It was my main kit for several years, and I'm not disappointed. It's not ultralight, it IS packable, and good enough to get you where you want to be and keep your warm and dry. More durable, warmer, and more, waterproof than cheaper big box entry level stuff... The price for the combo is very attractive. If you haven't already begun the never-ending task of REFINING your gear, this is a great place to start... it will allow you to go do things confidently...
