Great for taking with you on military training events into the field, out to the range, anywhere that you would need to heat up food or water and need to be discreet and quick about it! Very lightweight compact, and holding the drinking mug no one is the wiser.
Boils fast, uses very little fuel. I haven't broke it yet in deserts, high altitude, seaside Beach's, sub zero temperature, even my non camping girlfriend uses it when were n in hotels. I purchased the new style plugger and replaced the lid other then that works like the day I got it. Used it multiple time a day for nine months on tour, even more impressive it works on my random outing after sitting for months on end.
This thing boils water in a jiffy and I love it because the fuel canister and all the parts fit inside the cup itself, so it stores well. It's always in my Jeep. BUT, and might be a deal breaker for you: The coffee press functionality is mediocre. It works, but you have to baby it down or the rubber edges of the filter slide all wonky and fail to push all the grounds down. That's a common flaw of a lot of portable coffee presses, I hear. But I already have another coffee press that is awesome, so I use this one only for boiling water. If I go backpacking, which I plan to, I'd take this Jetboil and only this and it'd work OK — which is to say the filter press does not totally suck. Did I mention it's crazy fast?
Just completed a 3-day solo backpacking trip on the A.T. and used my new Jet Boil twice a day. The push button ignition worked very well and I was amazed how quickly water can boil in this equipment. For me the French press accessory is a must have. So simple to use and makes a great cup of coffee.
Jet boil is a great product, and the coffee press works great aside from how much of a pain it is to clean when you are done. I purchased the coffee press version for my wife so she could have a coffee with breakfast on our Isle Royale trip. After the first day she said it wasn’t worth the hassle of trying to clean the thing. It works like a champ, its just when you have limited water while hiking and have to filter every drop using the amount of water to clean out the coffee grounds wasn’t efficient. The jet boil itself works great, even in the rain, and the coffee press worked well also. I would just have to recommend only using the coffee press when you have an abundant supply of water to clean it out.
I have only used the jetboil Java before I learned that when melting snow you can have a failure. I tested the product at home with water and had no issues. However while on the mountain and melting snow I begin to smell melting plastic and immediately turned it off. We think that the snow where the bottom of the pot had melted, then evaporated and then was absorbed by the dry snow above, leaving the bottom of the pot dry which caused of the pot to heat up and melt the neoprene wrapper. Lesson learned: add just a little bit of water at the bottom or gradually add snow and allow it to melt and then add more.
Tested true Jetboil will indeed boil water in under two minutes. Looks slick ... However, the base broke the first trip out and the French press does not seal properly leaving plenty of granules in the coffee pour.
First time using this stove on a 18 days kayaking adventure in Alaska's wilderness. Great stove, work well in the wind, start all the time with the igniter. Make sure that you have water in your JETBoil otherwise you will end up with a whole in the bottom of your water holding reservoir as found out my friend. In a separate review I wrote in detail that I got 87 boils . 1 boil = 2 cups of water with a 16oz can
This is an excellent camp/backpack stove. I have a SnowPeak backpacking stove that is ultralight, but it doesn't come with the cooking pot that Jotboil is known for. This pot boils water extremely fast and maintains heat for those cold mornings when all you want to do is hold something warm in your hands. I have only had this product for about 6 weeks now and I think I have probably gotten about 6 months worth of use out of it. The temperature meter on the side glows a satisfying orange when the water is ready. The sleeve is super comfy and grippy. Not to mention, this specific Jetboil comes with the French Press! If you like coffee on lightweight camping trips in the back country, or while out on the trail for an extended hike, this is the stove for you!
When do you usually want your coffee in the morning? How about in 2 minutes? That’s when I want my coffee - ASAP. This system boils water super fast (as the regular Jetboil’s do) but the added bonus is that it comes with the coffee press filter accessories. The Jetboil Java is only $10 more than the regular Jetboil, but buying bought the coffee press kit separately (regular cost $20), you’ll end up spending $10 more. Forget the MSR Pocket Rocket, unless you’ve been using it in many weather conditions for years and have all the cooking accessories. The Jetboil is built with a natural windscreen and comes with the water container and fuel stand. Also I like that I can put smaller canisters of fuel inside the container for transportation. This is what you want if you’re a beginner backpacker, and any situation where you need to boil water for food. This is the best solution I’ve seen for boiling water for cooking and coffee.
