If you, like me, came here hoping to replace the pair of these same pants you've had for several years - be aware these have changed. Attached photos show these (dark blue) and my previous pair (grey). For reference I am 5'2 and 105 lbs. Both pairs of pants are XS, but these fit like they're a size or two bigger. I'm not against loose pants, but these look obviously too big, especially around the crotch. The material is also different - the previous design had soft, quiet material, while these make a swishing noise when you move, similar to a windbreaker (though not as loud).
I cannot speak highly enough of these pants. I hiked the whole Pacific Crest Trail in these and they lasted darn near the whole 6 months, so you know they are durable! They are so incredibly comfortable, they are super quick dry, and the fit is absolutely amazing. All the women in my trail family ended up getting these pants (if they didn't already have them) and we all loved them even though we are all very different shapes and sizes. Love the waist design -it never rubbed against my skin/hip belt. Love the mesh inside the pockets, which keep them breathable and dry quickly. I loved the little zipper pocket at the hip -I used that for my credit cards and lip balm so I had them on hand but knew they were secure. The new version of these pants have draw strings at the ankles, which help keep out bees/wasps -a must have! I thought I found the dream pants in another brand (the The North Face Aphrodite 2.0 Pants) but they are not as comfortable, quick dry, or durable, and the fabric got weird over the years. They don't hold a candle to these Mountain Hardware Pants. If you are thinking of buying these, DO NOT HESITATE. They are worth the money and then some!!
I was very nervous about these because the pictures on REI's and [other] websites made them look functional but not necessarily cute. The reviews helped me take the plunge. These pants are incredible. I have been looking for technical joggers for rainy Seattle outings, ferry rides, airplanes (if that ever happens again), hikes, etc. These are SO CUTE and comfortable, not crotchy, the leg holes are not too small (and I like that they are not bunchy elastic like the other MHW styles), and I am in love with the zip pocket for a key or some cash. I am 5'8" 125lbs with a little hip action, and these fit perfectly in size small. Came back to get the green pair too now that I've fallen in love, but sold out already!
When these pants came in the mail, I put them on and wore them all day, to bed, and all the next day. I hike in these pants, rock climb, jump into lakes, wear them with a nice sweater and boots in the fall, to bed: everywhere. They are comfy, athletic, cute. They have enough pockets, plus one zip pocket which is great for rock climbing, handstands, tussling with the kids, etc. After maybe 4 years, there's a small rip at the knee, but besides that have held up great.
SIZE: XS, 5'2 and 125 lbs. I was convinced by the reviews and I'm so glad that I was--Now my favorite hiking pant, and so comfortable that they're probably my new favorite travel pant as well. Insanely flexible material. I will be purchasing another pair, probably a small for a more baggy look, because the XS is a little fitted but nice for all-day hiking (no chafing).
I was looking for a lightweight hiking pant that was stylish. These are SO perfect. Cute, comfortable, and super stretchy flexible. Just tested them out hiking today in 75+ degrees and they were perfect. I’m 5’2 and 115 and the XS fit great. The length hits me right at the ankle but they also look cute with the hem rolled. I’m considering buying another pair while they’re on sale.
These pants are super lightweight yet great even for windy trails.
These pants are amazing! I have worn them backpacking for 10 days. They are comfortable and dry easily. The waistband is comfortable under the backpack waist belt. Also, the elastic makes it easy to go to the bathroom in the backcountry. 😊 I have worn these pants with a dressy shirt. They are easy to pack and don’t take up much room. I LOVE these and have bought several pairs.
For reference, I'm about 5'6", 160lbs, late 20s and carry more of my weight in my bum and thighs. I'm a solid size 8/10 in pants. I first ordered these in medium and they fit so well! They're so comfortable. They don't look like technical pants, really. I would feel comfortable wearing these to work in the summer. I did notice after wearing them for a little while that they would stretch out and if I put anything too heavy in my pockets (phone, keys, etc.) the pants would start to descend down me. This is why I've given them four stars and not five. I ordered a size small (which never happens for me in any pants), and they seem to fit much better.
These pants are awesome for hiking. I went off trail hiking climbing up and down boulders and through shrubs, crossing streams they were sooo comfortable, didn’t get snagged from the shrubs and I stayed cool. I submerged them up to my knees in cold water and they dried within 25 minutes (it was a warm day-low 90s but I was sitting in the shade while they dried ) light splashes of water just repel off. I’m 5’2”, about 125/130lbs and got the small. They fit perfectly. Ankle pant on me usually just mean they actually fit right for a normal pant which is how these fit. I highly recommend them and will be purchasing other colors.
