Incredible Shoes
These are amazing!!! I purchased these specifically for kayaking. They feel like a super lightweight running shoe which I LOVE! Though the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that while they grip rocks and terrain extremely well, I ended up spilling some water in the kayak and when it was time to dock, these didn’t not help as much as I expected with my sliding feet on the bottom of my wet kayak. I know that’s asking a lot for a shoe like this but just something to note. That aside, these shoes are extremely comfortable. I was a little nervous reading the reviews because another commenter mentioned she had narrow feet and my feet are very wide but I still feel very comfortable in these. Regarding the quick pull laces, the string is probably a little longer than it needs to be, but the tongue does have a little pocket where you can store the excess. I usually just tuck it under the laces toward the front. I think these would even work great for some light trail hiking as well. Last but not least, the colors on this shoe is like a dream combo. I got the Black and Tan version and it has just the right amount of pale pink accents.

I won’t know how these shoes held up to trail and river because the Quicklace tie was waaaaaaaay too long!

the tissue part was torn in 2 month of using them

I haven't been exploiting them in too hard conditions, it was just a short 4km run, when I noticed that the tissue part is torn from the side of my socks on both feet. I have no idea, why could this happen but not by the manufacturing defect. I love these shoes so much, they are so light and convenient to use in various conditions, but it's so bad, they are torn( yeah, I'll try to change them (I'm from Russia, it's complicated here), but I will hope so much to don't have this exact problem after the expertise

These are terrible!

I bought a pair of tech amphibian 3, which I loved but which gave me blisters below my ankles when I wore them without socks. I assumed that this was because they were slightly too big for me (though I now realize that this is a common complaint for that model) so I tried to buy a pair that was a half-size smaller, only to find that they had been discontinued and were unavailable. Though I vastly prefer the more rugged look of the 3s, I ended up buying myself a pair of tech amphib 4 instead, since I assumed that their functionality would at least be comparable. Unfortunately, not only do they look worse than their predecessors, they're a worse shoe in general (though I will admit that they have not given me any blisters). They have less traction, worse drainage (despite always being left to dry on a rack that's out in the open, they've really started to stink, which is something my shoes never usually do, tech amphibian 3s included), they take longer to dry, and their mesh has already started to rip very noticeably in three places (despite the fact that I've only just started using them and have only ever worn them on rainy suburban dog walks). They are no longer under warranty, either, since I bought them a few years ago and had them shipped to my parents' house in a different country, but only received them two months ago because of a mix-up, followed by a pandemic. I would definitely not recommend these to anyone and will not be purchasing a third pair from this collection.

Great in the water

I have worn these shoes twice now and they’ve been great for the float trip in the river and also for a day at the lake (which has sharp rocks on the shore and along the waterline.) These shoes have pretty good traction on slippery rocks and were comfortable to wear all day in and out of the water.

Disappointed…

Came here to replace my techamphinians that I bought back in 2008 and are now starting to fall apart. Only to find out they have morfed into these… one of the things I loved about the older model was the chunky soles. Guess I’ll have to wait till they are dry and see if I can glue the sole on so I can keep these a bit longer…. This is truly a sad day for me!

The 4 was a step backwards

I am looking everywhere for the Tech Amphibian 3, only to find you stopped making it. I hiked 7 to 15 miles a day in those 3-4 days a week. I climbed rocks, stomped through river beds without fear, and out-hiked most of my friends in their "less-than" shoes. I really liked how they kept my feet free of pebbles with the mesh and how they protected my feet. They were the best ever. The only improvements I would have made to the 3 were improved water drainage through the soles and possibly more arch support in the footbed through construction, not foam (I did replace the insoles a few times). The 4 is NOT THE SAME shoe... very sad. The tread is appears much smaller than the 3, instead of even bigger which provides the security I am seeking in rough terrain. The outer toe-box protection is a lot smaller on the 4 as well. The wide toe protection on the 3 was amazing... as my feet would slip between rocks in or out of the river. The 4 doesn't seem to have as much drainage as the 3, when it needed more. Just by looking at the photos of the sole and soft the top, the four appears to be a shoe I might use on a "light" outing, but not the serious water hiking shoe that the 3 was. Please bring the 3 back! (size 6)

Great for use under water

I did various types of trails with these shoes ranging from easy to difficult. They were great when I had to cross streams in water up to my knees, but not so much for hiking down hill on rocks covered with loose sand or dry mud. Also on dry rock, I feel there’s not enough grip. I had to be very careful hiking downhill in these shoes. I liked the idea of the collapsible heel before I bought the shoes but after trying it, it’s actually not as comfortable as I’d like it to be. Overall, they’re good shoes that are perfect for easy trails.

Bring Them BACK

These are the BEST. I am so upset that Salomon changed the design for the tech amphib 5. Its much more masculine than the 4 (this version). I bought these shoes in two colors and honestly I would buy more if they still existed. What I love about these is the sleek lines, they look like regular running shoes but I don't need to wear socks, they are very comfortable - I have worn them on long walks, steep hills, high heat - and - without socks with zero problems. The collapsible heel is a nice feature but I don't use it much, I will say the fact that its there allows for very easy on/off though which I love. My only issue is that I really wear them sparingly because I don't want them to wear out and then I will be left with nothing since they are not made anymore.

Hands down, my favorite shoes

I bought these a year ago thinking they’d be great for stand up paddle boarding and wading in the lake. Well, I almost never wear anything else. I wore them over the winter because they are just really comfortable shoes. I can walk the dogs in them, slip them on and off easily, and they go with everything. They are perfect for camping. I bought a second pair and both of my parents have purchased them too. They are perfection. I live on a lake and these make walking along the rocky beach and wading into the water effortless. Sometimes they get rocks in them, but nothing compared to other water shoes I’ve had. Just got back from Yellowstone, and wore these the entire time. I get so many compliments on them, too. As I linger on this website, I’m debating buying a third pair..
