These are as cute in person as they are online. If you’re looking for a hiking shoe that is stylish while offering great support and waterproof protection these are it. Very comfortable, nice wide toe box for my wide foot. My only slight issue is that they seem to run a bit long causing extra space in the heel as you walk (hence 4 stars). I normally wear an 8 in regular shoes and an 8.5 in running shoes so I opted for an 8 in these but could have gone with a 7.5. I didn’t want to bother with a return so I added footbeds and wear thick hiking socks to help fill up the extra wiggle room and now they fit great.
My feet are in between an 8 and 8.5. I usually wear a size 8.5, or a 39 or 39.5 in European sizing, but the 8.5 in this shoe was too long. I reordered and got the size 8, and it's still a bit big. Finally I thought to look at the size chart, where it says the US 7 is a EU 39 and a 7.5 is EU 39.6. Wish I'd figured out this discrepancy sooner! I'm going to try the 7.5 next and hope that does the trick. It seems like a great shoe, light but stable-feeling, and waterproof without looking super-hikey. I really want this shoe to work out.
I have an arthritic big toe on my left foot, and my daily 60-90 minute walks had become very painful. After reading all the positive reviews for these Solomon Vayas, I decided to try them. WOW! They felt comfortable out of the box, but only a long walk would reveal whether they are comfortable. I was amazed that my toe doesn’t hurt at all with these VAYA shoes on! The toe box is nice and roomy with my big, thick hiking socks on, and that is important to me. These shoes are 5+++ stars. Get them; you won’t be disappointed. I’m tempted to get a second pair just because shoe styles and designs sometimes disappear.
I am very happy with these shoes and could not recommend them enough! I must have tried about 10 other brands/styles of hiking shoes at REI before finally deciding on these ones. I was looking for a lightweight, non-bulky, versatile shoe that could be worn day hiking, walking around the neighborhood, or at the beach. They are super comfortable and I don't feel the need to take them off right after a hike. They also have a good amount of toe room which is great. These run fairly large length wise and are slightly narrow -- I normally wear and 8.5-9 and ordered the size 8 which fit perfect.
I ordered these online with not ever owning a pair of Salomon shoes. When I tried them on, I was astonished. They felt as comfortable as my slippers. I loved them instantly. This weekend we were hiking all over Red Lodge, Montana; it was then that I knew that they were not only comfortable; but they were fantastic hiking shoes. I felt confident on the trails and never had one blister from three hard days of intense hiking.
Great for wet forest walking! Feet stay dry, and good over rocks and hillsides. Sooooo comfortable, lightweight but supportive. I have high arches, narrow heels, bunions, and an old injury on my little toe, so need good toe room. When the laces are tied well there is no heel slippage. I add arch inserts and they work well. My new favorite hiking shoe! :)
I got these from @Salomon a few months ago and they're GREAT! Essential footwear on a hike is essential and these shoes sum up a good hike experience. I didn't need to break into the shoes as they already felt very comfortable the very first time I wore them. The shoes have a lot of cushioning around the foot and generally feel like you're walking on clouds. The material is waterproof which is a plus for early morning hikes with dew along the trails. I also get a lot of compliments along the trails which is a plus. :)
I love these shoes. They are comfortable and beautiful right out of the box. I got the grey, but wish I had a pair in all colors offered. I can only imagine how cool the orange looks. Aside from looks they are true to size and sooooo comfortable. I wear them hiking, running, and have dusted them off to wear to work on casual Friday’s. They are a little nasty to clean, the upper part will require elbow grease to get the dirt out. Good job Solomon. Now I’m considering some backpacking boots by you.
I broke my pinkie toe so wanted shoes with a wide toe box. These fit the bill from that perspective. I've worn them now on many hikes and they are super comfortable. Today I hiked in misty rain with wet grass...and I could wring out my socks by the end of the hike. These are definitely NOT WATERPROOF. I would have given them 5 stars otherwise. I see in other reviews people have said they are waterproof; not sure why my pair are not.
Very comfortable and light. I have difficulties finding shoes that fit due to narrow heel, low volume, but wide fore foot. The Vayas do well in addressing these issues.
