I have used this tent 10 times and it's holding up great. I do a lot of backpacking with my kids (8yo and 5yo) and there is plenty of room for the 3 of us. I love that the walls are very angled so there is lots of headroom. We also really like how open the tent is when not using the rain fly, it's great for stargazing and ventilation. It's a little heavy compared to other 3 person tents, but we typically don't hike far. The stuff sack is not made well. It's already falling apart
I chose this tent with the hopes that I would be able to set it up easily by myself and stay dry in all weather, it did not disappoint. I live in Montana so I knew I could be in for rain as well as sun but didn't want the usual chemicals so I took a chance on the Mineral King..... I had moderate wind, a light thunder storm and some light rain and I stayed warm and dry through it all!! I do advise giving yourself a little time to learn the poles, I'm sure I was a comical sight getting them to behave on my first set up. It also doesn't hurt to love the the colors and overall look of the tent as well. Oh, and be mindful of the zippers, having the mesh does require being a little more careful when zipping the doors. Enjoy
Quality made tent. I’ve got about 15 nights in it so far and It has already weathered many Colorado afternoon storms. My main issue is how transparent the fly is, it gets bright quick in the morning.
Alright, I bought and picked up this tent today. I reviewed a YouTube videos on product reviews and on setup prior to my attempt. Reviews were very positive....so I purchase the tent. Picked it up, brought it home and on the first attempt....it was set up in 15 minutes. SWEET! I feel like if I got in late to a campsite that I could set this up in the dark with a headlamp. A little heavy for ultra-lighters but for overnights or car camping you can't go wrong......Well done, MHD. FYI, this tent will be put through the paces for the next 2 months. Road trip, off road, backcountry....will revisit and give a field experience evaluation.
This tent was excellent for backpacking with 3 friends of mine this past summer. I used the Gregory Deva 70 backpack and the Mountain Hardware tent fit perfectly with extra room for other items. This tent was very easy to assemble, was lightweight, durable and excellent for out west summer conditions (changing rainy/sunny/cool elements very quickly) in WA/OR and CA! Excellent ventilation, spacious for two 5’10 men and my 5’2 self (mind you, you will be touching shoulders slightly sleeping lengthwise so if you want more space, go up a 4 person tent) with some foot room for other items. I love the mesh side pockets inside the tent for holding your headlamps/other items for a quick grab as well. This tent has a footprint which was incredibly helpful not purchasing separately and no water got inside when it rained!! I highly highly recommend this tent if you’re even questioning it, you won’t regret it I promise you!!!! If this helps, I was debating between the Big Agnes 3 person tent and this tent and I am so glad I went with the Mountain Hardware 3 p tent! Give it a try and you’ll be so thankful you did!!☺️☺️
I bought this tent in 2020 and highly recommend it. Use it for car camping. I am thinking about buying the 2 person version for backpacking. Well designed with quality materials and workmanship. I love the mostly vertical walls, plenty of room for my wife and myself plus our duffle bags, extra blankets and pillows. Easy to set up. But what I’m most impressed with is the performance in challenging weather. One trip to the Sawtooths included a hard rain, probably about an inch. A year later in central Utah, we had hail and about 2.5” of rain including hard rain almost one entire night. Never a leak anywhere. Simply remarkable. I’ve been a backpacker since about 1975 and this is the best tent I’ve used.
Was looking for a 3 person tent for the times my wife goes bike touring with me. Was not wanting to spend $300+ for another tent. Saw this at REI garage sale with remarks “Customer used once complained of condensation”. I was skeptical because camping and tent condensation go together down in the Southeast. Have used it for 7 day tour of NC and a 5 day trip on the GAP trail. Great tent and quality and not too bad weight wise for 3p tent. Plus with the tent being mostly mesh it doesnt turn into an oven on late spring summer tours. I would pay the $350 new price for the tent but $200 was a great find. Oh yeah. No condensation problems what so ever
I got this to take my kids all back packing. It's way bigger than anything I have used before. I was still able to set it up by myself when I tested it out and kids 10 and 6 basicly were able to without much instruction. The tent is sturdy and wide. Tall enough for kids to stand in and way tall enough to comfortably kneel for an adult. Pockets on the corners and roof, nice door/fly system lets it be used in either direction easily.
After my 14-year old REI Taj 3 was showing signs of needing an upgrade, I spent a lot of time researching trying to find something similar as I really loved the Taj 3. This MH Mineral King 3 is even better with easier setup/breakdown. I noticed one review in my research stated that the zip was a "two hand zip" and when I set up the tent the first time I realized what that reviewer was reporting, however, if you maximize the footprint and place your pegs strategically for a tighter fit, you can in fact open the zippers with one hand. Love the fact that there is more net than canvas which makes for great stargazing. And I don't actually miss the 'window' that the Taj 3 had.
Got this tent a year and a half ago--a concession to my advancing age to move up to a 3 person tent for me and the dogs. I like everything about it--holds up well in rain and wind. A little heavy for backpacking but awesome for car camping. Love the feature where you can roll up half of the fly and drop it back down in a few seconds if it starts to rain. My wife comments on the nice color, and I appreciate it as well! I tend to worry about the flimsiness of tent zippers of "backpacking" tents and have had to replace a few, but so far these are holding up fine.
