I wanted to love this tent, but it's clear to see that MH cut corners with it's design & construction. 1) THE SPECS ARE WRONG. As another reviewer showed, the tent is NOT a full 50" wide, and WILL NOT accept (2) 25" sleeping pads. See photos of a 20" & 25" pad inside the tent, and tape measure showing corner-to-corner measurements. 2) The rainfly leaks at the seams. My first night in the tent, I had water dripping on my face, as it wept through the stitching, onto the pole, onto the inner, and then onto my face. I had to seam-seal the rain-fly. (Which probably voided the warranty, preventing a return....) 3) There is no toggle on the right-side(s) of the rain fly, to tie it back. DESPITE THE PRODUCT PHOTOS that show the right-side of the rain-fly tied back. (Notice, the Aspect 3p doesn't show photos of the right-side(s) being tied back...) This means that when you want extra ventilation, you have to either pack a wooden clothes-pin or similar with you to tie the right (sides) back, or go without. 4) Lots of areas where MH cut corners with the design. The door-keeper for the inner doors sucks. It works, but it sucks. A toggle would be way better. The interior pockets are sparse, and could be much better. No vents in the rainfly. Only 2 guylines included. (Seriously, who guys-out only 2 corners, and not all 4...?) They could really improve these areas without adding much cost or weight at all. 5) This tent is OK, but is NOT worth the full price - nowhere near it. I got mine on sale, and will probably keep it, but it is nowhere near worth the MSRP, compared to other tents on the market... 6) Not all doom & gloom. It is lightweight. The crossing X-poles are way easier to setup, and tear down than the typical 1-piece "hubbed" pole sets. The floor feels very durable. If I KNEW that I'd setting up on soft ground, I'd feel fine leaving the footprint at home. Stuff sack(s) are very generous, and easy to fit everything inside without fuss or fight. The loops/cords which attach to the poles that everyone whines about - they're not bad at all. They're easy to clip in when setting up. They're easy to unclip when breaking down too; Rotate the black plastic hooks on the poles, "pop" the loop, and they'll come right out. 7) Definitely get the footprint, as we camped on gravel one evening, and found that the footprint absorbed some abuse that would have really scarred the tent's bottom otherwise. Final Verdict) I will most likely keep this tent, as it does fit some narrow criteria that I wanted. Rectangular floor, crossing X-poles for easy setup, and very lightweight. But, it sucks that it's too narrow for (2) wide sleeping pads, and despite the rain-fly being durable Sil/Sil Nylon, the lack of tie-backs, and leaking from the factory are really annoying. If you can get this on sale, and are aware of it's drawbacks, it's good. Not worth the full price however, and don't expect premium "features" found on other tents.
This Aspect 2 tent is, in many ways, an excellent tent. It is constructed well and isn't flimsy. It doesn't feel cheap at all. The color is nice, and the features are legit. I set it up in my house to look at it before I put it to use. It's easy to set up. I've had a ton of UL tents (freestanding and non-freestanding), and I'd say this MH tent is up there with the other good ones. However, the specs of this tent are INCORRECT on the MH website. The tent is definitely not 88x50 inches. My measurement is 86x46 inches. Two 25-inch-wide pads will most certainly not fit in this tent. I put my two pads in this tent - one was 25 inches wide and the other was 21 inches wide - and they just barely fit. If you're looking for a very light one-man tent, the Aspect 2P is a great choice. Or if your two pads are 46 inches wide or less (total), they'd fit in this tent. But the specs are incorrect on the website.
5 stars for weight, ease of setup, internal space (2 people can actually fit!). Minus 1 star for the following: - footprint has been out of stock for a month everywhere. It sucks to not be able to get the matching UL footprint. - the plastic clip used to attach the tent to the cross-pole is a clear weak point and would be a pain to work around if it breaks mid-trip. No spare plastic clips were provided. I’m almost certain this will be the first thing to break on this tent, and I’m worried about it. - minor but definitely annoying, esp. at this price point - no loops of guy line at the end of the stakes. There are holes so I can buy some and tie those loops myself, but it’s an extra cost and hassle that similarly priced (and even cheaper) tents don’t make me deal with.
This was a much needed upgrade! We went from a 7 lb tent to a 2 lb tent! It is ultra light but feels durable, so far we've only used it once. It fit me, my partner, and our husky comfortably. Good headroom and the little pockets to store stuff inside our super well designed. Love the rain fly and vestibule set up as well. Very easy to get in and out and a perfect place to store packs and boots to keep them dry overnight.
This tent is just what I was looking for. It is light, but still high quality, free-standing and with two doors. I am careful with it, especially when my dog is camping with me, as I know it is not a heavy fabric. It just fits two people with a dog between our feet, and is very light. I also love the color! White performs the best with sun exposure and is also easy to find in the summer for safety. The blue base is a nice as well. My other tent is a more roomy and heavier four-season tent for the winter and car-camping, while this Aspect 2 is perfect for long backpacking trips including some multi-day challenging ridge hikes with a lot of elevation to climb up.
This is the tent i've been looking for . is it Perfect?, NO. but no tent is perfect for every situation. I'm 6' 5" and Pack with my wife. We put our clothes bags in the tent with so space is something i Require. Big Agnus copper spur is a good tent but i don't like a a tapper floor. The Aspect 2 is the same weight but with a roomy rectangle floor. Size and weight is fantastic. down side- It could be a bit quicker to set up. only an issue if it's raining. the lack of a vents can cause condensation ... That being said those issues i can deal with to get the tent i needed.
Very easy to set up and very robust for the weight. This tent has kept me dry through alpine storms and thwarted marmots from getting to any of my stuff inside. Great tent with a well thought out design to reduce weight as well as providing plenty of inside space. I have had 2 people and a dog comfortably inside of this as well as just me with plenty of space for A LOT of gear.
I chose the Aspect 2 for the large footprint and weight. It didn’t feel cramped inside even though my wife and I are both tall (6’2” and 5’11”). Tent did great in light wind (10-15mph) and drizzle, I haven’t tested it yet in worse conditions. It’s so easy to pitch, which I also love. It feels very fragile but I’m hoping it lasts a long time!
The plastic hooks used to clip the tent to the poles are exceedingly fragile. One broke after only the 3rd night of light use (car camping). I have a 8 year old REI brand tent bought for half the price that is still totally fine.
I LOVE this tent. Just bought a second one for my adult son. It is far superior to my other tent, the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2. The Ascent 2 is superior in many important areas: it is lighter, the sil/sil nylon fly is always dry unlike the heavy water-sponging fly of the Copper Spur, it has a smooth fly profile that sheds all water unlike the Copper Spur fly's pond triangle, and it is symmetrical for easy night-time setup. I love the Aspect because it is double wall instead of the more expensive dineema which only creates a muggy condensation-heavy enclosure.
