Took a risk and brought this along straight out of the box for an overnight along the Hoh River Trail in Olympic National Park and it did not disappoint! Light enough to carry in my partner's pack, quick and easy to put up, and roomy enough for two people and one large pack. I'm 5'6" and 180 and my partner is 5'9" and 170 and we were totally comfortable, but we could only fit my pack and left my partner's outside. Probably could have squeezed it in, but the trade off on comfort was worth it. With the rain cover on, it gets warm and stuffy inside, so we left the cover off in the afternoon and the mesh was super breathable to cool it down. It was 70 and sunny in the afternoon and 55 and rainy in the evening and we were comfortable. I like that it opens on both sides for extra ventilation and ease of getting in and out for late-night or early am bathroom breaks. It held up in the rain totally fine the first night, though on the second night we forgot to zip up the rain fly completely and water got in - not a horrible amount, and it was 100% user error. Double check your zippers! I was super impressed by how easily it stuffs back into its carrying sack - I'm used to re-folding and wrestling with my larger car-camping tent, so this was a total breeze. The footprint is nicely clipped onto the bottom of the tent pad so it's not any extra effort to fold. Only a few cons I can think of. I wish there were internal pockets to store my phone and glasses while sleeping. It could be just a tad longer to provide more room for packs. The lip of the "door" frame could be lower for easier in-and-out (I tripped when exiting in the dark). Overall, this was an easy and economic option for new backpackers
This is our first REI tent. Wow! This is quality and I know get why folks love REI. I recently joined and became a member, this tent was the first of many wonderful purchases. For two person tent I felt like the size and it was totally fair. I also really liked the areas under the rain fly- it really seem to make the space bigger.
Just returned from a short backpacking trip with my new Trail Hut 2 tent. It was great, especially for the price! The weather was cool fall in Northern NY - a little rain, cold mornings - and through it all, the tent was fantastic. Always dry every morning (key). The little air vents at the top of the rain fly were a great detail I appreciated. Plenty of room for 2 and even slept w/ all the gear in the tent the last night due to rain. Only downside - the tent poles are a bit heavy.
This tent is standing up to considerable abuse in a tropical, marine environment and is doing well in heavy rains, tropical sun and 10-15 knot winds. The cording is fading in the tropical sun fast. This tent is heavy and would be siutable for car, motorcyle or bicycle travel. It's too heavy for hiking or ultralight.
I’ve taken this tent with me on a couple of trips in various conditions, and it’s never failed to keep me and my stuff warm and dry. I love the easy setup - the first time I pitched this tent I had to do it in the dark and had it up within minutes. The cute print on the rainfly is a fun bonus!
Great tent for one person. Got rained on one night. Did not get wet. Set up is simple and fast. Zippers all work well. Have no complaints. Great tent for price.
I was nervous after purchasing this tent because it had few reviews. But we got a great deal on this tent and it is excellent. We set it up before our trip and took us less than 5 minutes. I could have done it alone in under 10. I wanted a tent that would be great for PNW camping. The first time out it poured rain was windy and cold. We stayed upright, bone dry and warm together in this tent. We had a different tent last week ( not REI ) we were wet and freezing. Perfect size tent for two people. Can’t wait to take it backpacking.
I’ll say it now so it’s in writing, I give this tent 3 months and the zippers will be broken. Tent itself is fine, although the “doors”, and “doors” being a very very generous description of the zippered holes that an elf would have a hard time crawling in, are horrible snd I’m only 5’9 and 150 lbs soaking wet. The biggest problem is the rain fly. I don’t know why they make the fly so so so tight that again the zippers are guaranteed to burst very soon. Other than that, it’s a tent comfortable and light but horrible design and rain fly could be about 6 inches longer all around to avoid the inevitable popped zippers.
I took this tent on a boy scout camping trip this weekend. While this tent is a three season tent, it worked well in winter weather. We had wind, sleet, and snow. The tent held up great! I love the dual vestibules. I had plenty of room to store my pack and boots without being in the way of getting into the tent.
I've been using this tent for about a month now, camping in Colorado and New Mexico. For the price, it's a great tent. Very easy to set up, I was in a snowstorm and the rain for 4 days in a row in while In Colorado and everything in the tent stayed completely dry. Pretty minimal tent, 2 inside pockets, 3 pole system. My only complaint is the "D" shaped door. I'm a large guy so getting in and out of them can be a bit awkward at times but that's surely not the case with everyone.
