The product is 90$ and when you compare it to every other system that does the exact same thing... you cannot beat it. I drive a 06 Prius and our family of four was doing a 12 hour trip from NC to FL. I had more than enough room to back 2 suitcases, a large duffel bag, 4 pillows, gifts for family and other soft objects. Its key to back this thing as full as possible to cut down on noise which isn't hard with all that stuff. Installation was super easy. I would recommend getting the roof pad that they make or a blanket of some kind to stop your roof from being scratched. We used the door attachment hooks which were very easy to do. I was able to do it by myself in about 10 minutes. During the trip we had 4 rain storms. The first 3 were your typical storms on the interstate and we had no issues. The last one was a real down pour. Like everyone on the interstate pulls over downpour because you cannot see. The webbing got soaked through on this one and water did come into the car through the attachment points. Again, 5 stars but you get what you pay for. All that to be said, all of our stuff in the bag was dry as a bone no problems there. I even called the Righline team and they recommended getting more water repellent spray and soaking the webbing in that to help prevent that from happening, but again, this was an unexpected very strong storm that likely we should have pulled off and waited it out in a gas station or something. I highly recommend this to anyone who doesn't want or can drop the money in the full roof mount system. Also, for the Prius owner MPG questions. I got 39.5 when I average 46 on that trip without the bag. That doesn't bother me at all but for some it might be an issue.

Worked great until it rained and the strap broke

We used this for a 9 day cross-country road trip. It was a great way to pack all our camping gear. We do not have a roof rack so appreciated the ease of use of this carrier and the extra space it provided. Downsides: 1) The straps make a loud noise until you get the angle just right to avoid the wind. 2) When it rained, using the weather-stripping to attach the carrier meant that we had streams of water pouring into the car. We could catch these with bowls, but it made for a pretty wet ride. 3) One of the straps broke on the last day of our trip. It tore off on the bag when we were tightening it. We were using an extra strap as a precaution and it didn't fall off or anything, but we won't be able to use it on our return trip.

Great for Weekend Adventures

The same week I bought this bag my friend spent several hundred dollars on a rooftop cargo container. His is probably slightly better, but if you're only using this product for occasional trips I think it's fantastic value. It freed up a ton of trunk space for our dog, super easy to install / pack, and felt secure on the highway.

Easy to store, easy to use.

Have used this twice to carry camping gear, once driving all day in pouring rain. Our car is small and our garage won't fit a hard-sided carrier, so this is our option. Useful that it folds down into a small bag for storage. On the non-slip pad is very quiet, doesn't shift position. Tie down system works well, easy to use. On one trip the rain was heavy for half a day and nothing inside was affected, fortunately; the only water that got inside came from us when we unzipped the wet bag. It holds all our camping gear nicely. Important to fill the bag from the front of car first to reduce any wind noise. The zipper is stiff to use and can come off its track if pulled too far (and I do wish it could unzip a bit further for ease of loading, but appreciate that this also keeps water out of the bag). Also be sure not to place the zipper facing forward on the car.

Make sure you are strong enough to lift this

The concept is great: a low cost solution to jam a bunch of stuff over the roof... So I bought one... and jammed a bunch of stuff in it.... but how am I supposed to put it over the roof by myself + 2 other people (both 75+) ... OK... Then how about laying out the empty bag over the roof and then jam stuff in it.... didnt work out either... Guess it's not a keeper for me! For anybody to be able to use this, have two strong/tall persons working the placement. it's very big and could be heavy (I jammed clothes in it... not even too packed) Not a design issue, just didn't work for our situation. Will be looking at cargo boxes instead

So happy with this thing

It did the job well for a 100$ product, you just got to be smart about it. Know how to place it on the roof properly, pack it in with gear properly by trying to keep its shape nice and balanced (only put all the soft items in here), tie it down properly *this is why it’s only 4stars* straps need to be doubled in length, the area where you attach it to the bag needs to be more on the corners, it really needs 2 more straps in the middle if you ask me (just for added safety). I bought a Yakima net as a fail safe. I’m thinking of buying 2more bunggies too… just for my own peace of mind. But I drove it to camp for 2hrs at 70mph, back and forth, some areas we encountered strong thunderstorms, and it was all good. Zippers are hard to operate but I think that’s coz they’re meant to be water resistant, material has a nice weight to it. Overall, for nothing too rough, it did the job well! We gained so much room in the Subaru because of this guy. I could see all my mirrors! Keeping it.

Right Gear jr

This compartment worked fantastic for my Kia Sportage. I was able to get the majority of our gear inside it and have plenty of space inside my vehicle for my granddaughter’s car seat and two dogs. Made for very pleasant road trip from New Mexico to Arizona. There was some road noise but it wasn’t unbearable.

Good bag but not sure about the anchorage points

Driving into a stiff headwind on the interstate highway (higher speeds) caused the front of the bag to float even with the nose of the bag packed full and straps pulled tight (we secured to side rails of the car using the side straps). This allowed wind to get under the front center of the bag which made the Rightline pad purchased to protect the roof vibrate/flap VERY loudly right above our heads. This was with the pad trimmed back a solid 4-6 inches from the front edge of the bag - about even with the front side straps. If there's a next time for use, we'll try putting the front load bar on the car to use the front straps with hopes of holding the nose of the bag down. That was the goal from the start, but the bag was a little too long to fit between the load bars on a Subaru Crosstrek. Other than the nose floating, the bag performed as advertised and we did not notice any leaks after driving through several rain storms during our 30 hour cross country trek. The straps held at what was likely equivalent speed of 100+ mph (highway speed limit of 80 mph plus strong headwind). Fuel economy suffered with the large brick on the roof, but not as bad as expected. We're "on the fence" about recommending. It seems the front straps need to be a little farther forward and perhaps there should be something firm across lower front edge of the bag to keep it from lifting in the center making a spot for the wind to catch and lift the bag.
