The harness is comfortable, I use it in the gym and have started to take it outside, it works fine for both. I do notice the leg straps like to get spun around in my bag more than my last harness requiring more attention when getting it on, but it's not a dealbreaker. However, the waist is super huge for the thigh sizes, or at least it's sized for someone with a very "rectangular" shape. I'm a size 12, the L fits my thighs but I would like to cinch the waist another inch or two. I'm prevented by the one-sided waist belt. Would have preferred a two-sided adjustment like my older harness.
I’ve owned this harness for years and it’s been great for my climbing sessions. I would definitely recommend it. A little word of warning though, I recently repurchased this harness to replace my older model. I purchased the same size that I already own, and the new version is much smaller. I’ve had to exchange it for a size up. I am 5’3, 115 lbs, and have a 26 1/2 inch waist - I ordered an x-small (which states is for a 24-27 inch waist) and had to exchange for a small (27-30 inch waist). Overall, great harness but runs small.
The harnesses I used to rent at the gym were Black Diamond and always comfortable. I trust Black Diamond to make a harness that's safe, secure, and durable, and I don't think I'll ever run into any issues along these lines. My issue is that it can be uncomfortable when you're suspended, to the point that it bruised my inner thighs when coming down from an auto belay. It's also hard to adjust the thigh straps. But I'm going to keep using it. For reference, I'm a size small at most stores (i.e. a 4/6 or 27/28 in bottoms) and bought the small. I don't have to tighten it much to secure the fit of the waist.
Been climbing about 3 months, but the rental harnesses were just horrible. Opted for this after reading reviews and watching videos, and I can’t imagine a more comfortable harness. I can actually weight the rope now! Leg adjustments are so easy to tighten and loosen, can do it with one hand.
This has a buckle at the inner thigh that is not padded. It was fine for indoor light use, but when it came time to use it at a challenging crag all day, the buckles dug into my thighs, leaving painful bruises. No matter how I readjusted this, the buckle dug in while belaying, falling and lowering. I believe this is the only Black Diamond harness with this issue. But of course, REI’s return policy made this easy. The employees were extremely helpful in finding the best replacement.
Great harness! I'm a petite gal (5'2", 95 lbs) and finding a harness that fit me snuggly had been a challenge. This one cinches down a good amount and feels very secure. I'm an intermediate climber, have tried another BD harness and a Petzl for hanging belays and long multipitch, and nothing felt as comfy. Highly recommend this harness, especially for small women.
Amazing quality! Item delivered quickly, and looks just like the pictures. Also came in a super nice travel bag, and is super comfortable.
I'm 5'6", 120 lbs. My last BD harness 10 years ago was an XSmall and fit perfect. I ordered XS again, and its way too small. The legs are not meant for girls with quads! Aside from the size it seems like a solid harness, but I've traded it in for the BD Momentum men's harness so my tough built legs can fit it! ;)
I have a very traditional hour glass shape and was torn on the size to select — I ultimately chose to go off of my waist because I figure a WOMEN’S harness would realize our hips are large and we need extra adjustment to get it on. Well, the waist was almost too loose and yet it would barely slide over my hips. Curvy girls stay away - I returned and will be getting a Petzl instead hoping they are a bit more size inclusive.
No matter what size I try on, the straps in the back along the seat are crooked when I adjust the belay loop to line up correctly. I tried on a M, L and XL and when the belay loop was centered in the front, the back butt straps were at least 3 inches off center. No one in store could figure it out either.
