I like the fact that there is a ring in the middle that tells me whether the carabiner is locked or not. The color is also clear, so it stands out well. It is also good that the part where the rope touches is thick.
I used these for my quad anchor during a day of top roping. I had a clean new Edelrid Boa Rope 9.7mm Rope and after probably 15 or so climbs, these things had EXTENSIVE wear. As an anchor 'biner or anything a rope doesn't drag through, they're great. But I can NOT recommend these for anything besides that.
First off, these are great carabiners. They are extremely light and seems very strong. The screw on the gate is well secure. One of the best feature is the texture of the finish. It is very grippy even with sweaty or chalky hands. I say the picture is deceiving because the carabiners are smaller than they look. I use it mainly for attachments to the anchor point, and running slings. They work well with an ATC belay device or gri gri but if you are using something with a large base like the Mammut Alpine it’s too small for good rope control. Overall you can’t beat this three pack.
These are the perfect multi-role lightweight carabiners. They look good, they feel good, and they perform good all at an amazing value. I’ve bought multiple 3-packs and always have them around to use for anything; anchors, slings, clipping my shoes to my bag, etc. While I do prefer other carabiners for other certain tasks (ie. belaying), this clip can generally be used for most things, doesn’t weigh you down, and looks amazing in your bag/on your harness. The texture is easy to grab while sweating and the locker seldom gets stuck, which is my biggest complaint with cheaper carabiners. These were my biggest complaints with the previous model, so it’s awesome to see BD listening and improving their products!
Nice and light weight. Sleek and sexy black finish. 10/10
Excellent basic screw gate carabiner. I always keep extras on my harness and in my crag pack. Reasonable weight for the size and a good general use shape. I’ve always been happy with all of my Black Diamond gear.
Each time I purchase equipment from BD, the gear is more ergonomic, precise, and usable. Confidence in the equipment gives me confidence in the climb. It's one less piece of the system I have to worry about.
These are my favorite lockers for so many things. To me they are the perfect size for things. I keep a couple large carabiners on hand too but these hot forge lockers are definitely the move.
Use these on every outing. Fit well onto anchor hanger for anchor building, PAS. For top-down belay from ATC guide. Could use with a grigri but a locker that prevents cross loading is better. Prefer these over the slightly more expensive ones which are a bit smaller and more cumbersome to deal with. For folks acquiring their first plethora of gear: I don't suggest these for taking the rope such as rappelling or for the center two in a top rope anchor. You want round stock for that, as it wears more evenly. Of course in a pinch you could use these for that as well
I carry these on my bug-out backpack, I use it for rock climbing and camping.
