Burned my 💋

I experienced the same as another user in here. I have used it many times before, so not sure what change they did with the formula. I ALSO thought it was a sunburn since I was on Safari. But I also had a mask on, so I thought it was something else that caused MAJOR swelling, burning, peeling of the lips to the point of some bleeding. Then I usef Aquaphor to help relieve the pain and protect the lips. Then I used the chapstick and omg it burned my lips AGAIN. I HAVE THROWN at least 5 sticks away now. I mentioned this to a friend and he said the same thing happened to him. My experience has been awful. Not sure what happened but I will NOT be using this ever again and will also warn my friends. Use Zinc Oxide or Aquaphor with sunblock.

Probably wouldn't buy this again

I bought the "mineral" option for a backpacking trip as my go to lip balm does not contain any sunscreen. I burn very easily, including my lips, so I was looking for something that had some sun protection in it. This worked out fine, but I didn't enjoy wearing it. I was not a very big fan of the smell, taste, or the feel of it on my lips. I personally do not like the smell of coconut and this had slight undertones of that in the scent. The taste was almost a bit chemically; I had to try to remember not to lick my lips after putting this on. The feel of it was almost thick and the slightest bit gritty, which is not something that one usually wants in a lip balm. My lips didn't get sunburned,so I guess it works as it should. I wouldn't want to use it again, but I would if I had to.

My lips are stoked

I'm super stoked I found this product. My derm said that what I thought were perpetually dry lips was most likely sunburn (#dyk lips are more sensitive than the rest of the skin). Even after learning this, I continued to use a drugstore 15SPF on my lips for years, up until I found this SunBum lip balm at a local surf shop. Love that it contains no harmful ingredients as I use it all day everyday here in Florida (I do a lot of research on this topic). Another bonus - my hubby will only use lip care that doesn't have flavor. Plus, 30SPF for lips is not easy to find. Thank you for making this lip balm. I subscribed to make sure I never run out.

Love the Mineral Sun Bum lip balm!

I really appreciate Sun Bum mineral lip balm because it doesn’t have any flavoring in it or leave a weird taste on my lips. PLEASE don’t ever change this! I also like the SPF30 feature since I’ve had a touch of skin cancer in the past on my upper lip and I’d like to never ever have that problem again, thank you very much! It’s also very soothing when my lips are dry, and application is smooth without pulling on the skin. My only problem is that I can rarely find the mineral Sun Bum in any stores, only the coconut, which tastes strange and leaves a chemical taste in my mouth. Please keep making the mineral variety with no flavoring. Thanks!

vegan, stylish and fun

I bought the watermelon and mango flavors, and was pleased by the sweetness and fragrance. The moisture lasts for a little while, and doesn't feel too heavy. The product design is superb. The artwork on the tube is unmatched. Love the summery, tropical theme, as it fits my overall lifestyle and aesthetic. While wearing it, my lips felt protected. My main issue was the toxic chemical undertones in the taste of it, and the fact that these nanoparticles were coming in direct contact with my water and food. I'd much rather use them more if they had regular zinc sun block ingredients. While I appreciate the idea behind them, I don't use these lip balms much due to the chemicals. A regular one without the iffy-sounding sun block concoction would be great. I'd buy almost every flavor.

Tastes like plastic

I use chemical sunscreens every day on my skin. Around my mouth where I'd be basically eating the stuff, I wanted to be a bit more cautious so I looked up mineral based products. This is probably the only one (unless you're okay with swiping on a regular solid sunscreen over your lips) on the market. I appreciate the unflavored, unscented product but it does taste like chemicals (similar to what you taste out of some silicone or plastic bottles). It's fine if I'm not licking it off but it bothers me when I'm eating. I'll bear it because it doesn't seem like there's many other choices on the market.

Great product. Leaves a white cast though

The application is very smooth. It glides on the lips without feeling like melting butter (like the Coconut lip balm spf 30 I bought before). The lips feel moisturized immediately. No funky smell or weird taste, it’s perfect! It leaves a very slight white cast on the lips though, which I don’t like. I know it’s inevitable with the zinc and I guess it’s better than no solar or chemical protection. I wanted to use it like my everyday lip balm that I would have applied anytime (in the morning, or after eating, after sports, during class, at bedtime…) but because of the white cast, I’ll probably just apply it before going out in the sun. It’s still a great product and will leave 1 in my purse and 1 in the car.

fave chapstick

I love this stuff! It’s a mineral chapstick, and it kept my lips moist and protected from the sun and wind. I don’t notice a white cast with this one as much, though I’m pretty fair skinned. I love this way better than a lot of other sunscreen chapsticks because it doesn’t have the weird aftertaste that some of them do. This will be a staple in my bag.

best chapstick with SPF!

It is extremely challenging to find a chapstick that has SPF of 30 (usually it's 15) and even more challenging to find something that contains mineral filters only, so that alone makes me happy. In addition, I love that it is also cruelty free and fragrance free. I also found that it is more moisturizing than other chapsticks with SPF that I've tried. Basically, I've never found anything better, and I always add this chapstick to my cart when I am shopping at REI (for some reason I haven't seen this chapstick sold much elsewhere). Some might find it a bit drying or not moisturizing enough, but honestly, it's as good as it gets with mineral SPF. You can wear another, more moisturizing chapstick under it.

Nice, but

Does work as lip balm but once it heats up it starts coming off in chunks upon application. This isn't a problem if you have clean hands and can spread it with a finger. It is a problem if you're using a camera and handling lenses.
