Walks Great and Skis even better!!
I had the privilege of skiing this boot for the last half of last season and was really impressed with the downhill performance and great "walkability." The 55 degrees of cuff rotation is as advertised and really easy to utilize with the "Hoji-Lock" lever on the spine of the boot. The fact that the lever also loosens the cuff buckle and power strap is an added bonus and makes transitions a breeze! On the downhill, the boots hold their own against true alpine boots and I had no problem skiing them hard at the resort as well as out touring. It really is the one boot to do everything in. Despite having a quiver of boots at my disposal, I have found the Hoji Free to be my go-to for both resort and BC days. **Disclosure - I work as a rep for Dynafit**
Walk Fast; Ski Hard
Full disclosure, I work for Dynafit, and was able to get my hands on a slightly earlier production model of this boot. For its weight, it will ski better than anything in its class. The low volume construction really hugs your foot to give you as much performance and sensitivity as possible, and the true 130 flex means you can drive the biggest skis through even the worst conditions. However, where this boot really shines is the walkability. Even though it is impressive on the down, it will blow past anything in its category on the up as well, thanks to a very generous 55 degree walk mode made possible by the Hoji Lock Mechanism. If you want to leave your friends in the dust on both the up and the down, and still feel like you're skiing your resort set up - this is the boot for you.
Best downhill-oriented touring boots available
These have been my freeride touring boots for 2 full seasons now, and they're the best boots I've worn for downhill-oriented touring. They ski far better than my last boots (Zero G Tour pros), and the walk mode is just as good. They are a bit heavier but that's the tradeoff you make for the downhill performance. Another reviewer mentioned the low-volume fit, and I would agree but I'd argue it's a benefit of these boots as you get more of a performance fit than a lot of other touring boots (I also have fairly low-volume feet).
Awesome boots, however way too narrow
Overall these boots are extremely well made. Fit and finish are perfect. Color is rad. Walk mode is insanely good for this stiff of a boot. HOWEVER gosh darn they are narrow. I don't have wide feet, but it feels like someone is crushing your hand during a power handshake for your feet. I don't think I could do an hour in them let alone an entire ski weekend. Super sad to return them as I was super stoked to get them.
