Sizing Notes

Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".

PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.

TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

Love ‘em
I’ve been eyeing these for a while and finally caved. I am 5’6 115lbs and usually wear size 0/2 and I ended up getting these in a size 4. I didn’t want them overly fitted! I wanted some room if I wanted to add a layer underneath the overalls for chillier weather. If you want to see the size difference, the picture of me with my hand in my pocket is size 4. The picture of me with my hand not in my pocket is size 2. The size 2 fit great, but I didn’t want a fitted look. Hope this helps!

Thigh gap or bust, literally.

Cute, great knees, love the pockets. When I bought these a few yrs ago, the biggest size was the size I got (16) so I'm very, very happy that REI has expanded their size options beyond that. Now to the cautionary tale: I bought 4 pairs of these for a 10-week season of frontcountry trailwork (mostly hiking an average of 5 miles a day and picking things up+putting them down). By the end of that season, 3/4 had busted through at the inner thigh. When I asked REI about the 1-yr warranty for this item considering how fast they were damaged, they said it was normal wear and tear and would not qualify for the warranty. Since then, the 4th pair has naturally followed suit. I have repaired the inner thighs on all 4 pairs at this point because I do like the look and feel of these pants. This wear is common for me, but still annoying. My most worn pairs have suffered additional minor damage but in general have held up super well...if you disregard the inner thighs. The *most* annoying thing about these pants by far is that the buckles break after a couple washes. A CRUCIAL part of the buckle breaks off and cannot be fixed as far as I can tell, even when I can find both of the little metal peices in the washer. I have replaced the buckle myself on one pair and just pinched closed the buckle on the rest of the pairs -- neither option worked super well but they kept the pants functional. I still wear these overalls all the time, but everytime someone compliments them (which is relatively often -- they're cute!) I warn them that they are not worth what I paid for them, somewhere between $75 and $100 at the time (I cannot remember, unfortunately). As some point I ran into someone who had gotten a pair on sale for less than $45 -- that, to me, is a price I would be willing to endorse them for at this point. If you've never had an issue with the crotch/inner thigh of pants wearing through and you plan to hand wash them or replace the buckles every couple seasons, they will be a great choice for you. I just finished mending another pair of these overalls hence the tirade. For a good while, I only had one functional pair -- the one in the pictures, trackable by the smudge of orange paint on the front.

Love the olive color

The olive color caught my eye as we walked by to look for a coat for my teen. So I tried on the 14 the largest size in our store. It fit nicely-except trying to squat (or kneel) the pant leg became a tourniquet. The fitting room person said that the fabric would eventually stretch. With tight jeans a few deep knee bends would loosen them up, but that was not the case with these-the fabric is strong which you want. Caution: the legs are slimmer than say a Carhartt women’s fit. I’m 180 lbs and 5’6” curvy FYI. The combination of a Wallace flannel shirt and these overalls was too much to resist so brought them home and thought it over. I read reviews and ordered a 16, returning the 14. This worked well. I do wish this had the “phone” pocket on the back of the thigh like a Carhartt, but life is full of trade offs which the olive color is worth it. And the perfect strong stretchy shoulder straps! It’s my new favorite. (Wash with hardware clipped together in a large delicates bag. Spin a 2nd time to squeeze the most water out and hang to dry to protect the hardware).

Good!

I had been eyeing these for a while but waited for the anniversary sale and set them for pick up. I just picked them up. I bought a size 14. I tend to wear a 12/14 leaning more towards a 14 after the pandemic. I do feel a slight bit of stretch to them. I probably could have gone up to a 16, since the 14 is pretty fitted. I am 5 foot 7 and I think the fact the straps have stretch is good because if they didn't I think they were feel too tight/too low. We'll see how they hold up based on the other reviews. They are comfy though and I really like how they look. These will be great for my lifestyle. I live in a city and walk my dog often. I sit at the computer often to grade and write papers. These are cozy for that. I also have to walk long distances across campus and think these will be great for that.

Perfect for guys, too!

As a 30yo male who has spent the last three months looking for a pair of men's overalls that don't fit like my 8th grade pair of jnco's, I am so happy I came across these at REI. I'm 5'9", 180lbs, and the size 12 fits me perfectly (had no idea how women's sizing compared to men's, but I got it right the first try :))...legs are just narrow enough to fit how I like but I have plenty of room to move around. I do have the straps maxed out to give me some crotch room, but other than that, they are everything I have been looking for in a bib. Don't be shy boys, try em out!! Ordering a green pair now...

Amazing overalls but they busted

I am (was) absolutely in LOVE with these overalls! I purchased a pair for work almost 2 years ago and wear them weekly. A month ago, the hardware for the buckle suddenly broke off with no way to fix it. I have searched high & low for replacement hardware to no avail. Last week, the hardware on my OTHER strap also came apart. I am pretty devastated as they were finally at that soft-broke-in-just-right overall comfiness stage, y’all know the one! I really thought I’d get more than 2 years worth out of them.

my go-to pants for camping

My husband bought these for me. We go camping down in Baja, Mexico almost every weekend and I've needed a paid of durable, comfortable pants. These are a staple. I use the front pocket more than I thought I would; my phone fits perfectly. The fabric is thick, but soft. I've tried on some other overalls that have fit too boxy; these are form fitting, but also stretchy and comfortable. I'm 5' 5", 145 lbs, and have an athletic build. A size 4 fits perfect. -@bajasurf

Transitioned beautifully from fashion to farm work

I can’t say enough about these overalls. I bought them for casual wear and took thirst traps in them on a pumpkin patch, but lately I’ve been wearing them all day long on the farm and I have to say: At least for my body type, these surpass — in fit and quality — the other major brands I’ve tried. (Probably doesn’t help that Carhartt and Dickies both dumb down their workwear for “women,” so the quality for work is lower.) With all the bending, crouching, crawling etc that I’m doing I’m amazed at how beautifully they’re holding up. The front pocket is thick enough even to hold my knife. I’m back to put another pair into rotation for city/cleaned-up life as they just fit so perfectly, but if these ever wear out I’m sure I’ll need another set for the farm, too. It helps that for now they’re still relatively affordable, sure hope it stays that way.

The Overalls You Have Been Waiting For

These are my first pair of overalls and I love them! They’re super comfy. The have convenient pockets on both sides, including an extra one on the right ideal for chapstick or other small items. The pockets on the chest are great for your pens, phone, etc. I love wearing these with my Chacos and my boots. Perfect for spring, late summer/fall, and winter!

Broken Buckle Heartbreak

I wanted to live in these overalls for the rest of my life. Alas, the rest of my life turned out to be 1 year and 9 months, when both buckles busted. Not that i’m counting. Am I mad, yes, am I still giving these babies a high rating? Yes. I love them. Fashion meets function? Yes? Yes! So many compliments on these bad boys. These are 3-season overalls. This fabric is thicc! While a bit unfriendly to your butt on a 90° hike, they prove to have amazing layering potential, keeping your buns toasty on the coldest dog park trips. These are also great binge-entire-series-while-eating-cheesecake “pants”. The actual Trailsmith Pants don’t work with my shape, and have a huge waist gap. However, these Trailsmith Overalls are *chefs kiss* for my 5’4”, 120lb + 10lbs give-or-take pandemic-cheesecake weight. REI, please make sturdier clasps!!
