I got this chair for a long meditation retreat where the options are always to sit on a floor cushion or on an uncomfortable chair. This fits in my suitcase so easily, is simple to set up, very light weight, and is so comfortable! I use an inflatable pillow from REI (a Nemo NEMO Fillo Backpacking Pillow) at my back if I want to sit up straighter or at my neck if I want to to lean my head back and relax. I can meditate in in this chair for hours. It' lower than a normal indoor chair, but you can cross your ankles on the ground in a semi lotus. Also, I have a little folding still that I use as a foot stool, back in my room. It's just ideal.
We went and spent a week in the BCWA this year and I wanted a chair to relax in but yet light enought for all the portages. After looking at a lot of differt chairs we settled on this one and it didnt disappoint. Im 6'4" and 245lbs and was comfortable in this chair. I would make the same decision again even with these being on the more expensive side but on this it is true you get what you paid for. We spent many hours relaxing in these chairs and they were very comfortable. I have tried many different backpacking chairs over the years and never was comfortable until i tried this one. Great long term investment as these are very sturdy
A Helinox fan and closet collector of their products :-) The Sunset chair is a true gem. I have been using mine daily for nearly 5 years. It’s the main chair in my converted Promaster. It’s like new, not stretched, so many people have sat in, some not paying attention to torque, and the thing remarkably has held up.I’m writing this review from it! Only downside. The headrest is too firm, so I added a soft pad which I should call helinox about, it makes the chair work better. For vanning, a wise choice, lightweight, and can disappear when extra room is needed.
I have now "field tested" this chair on several outings - motorcycle camping and backpacking. I even pull it out when I have to sit and wait for someone. It sets up in about 20 seconds. While heavier than some, it is extremely comfortable. I am a BIG BOY (+/-280 lbs, 6'3"). This chair does the job. When the knees and back hurt, and I am tired from humping a pack in the heat, this chair definitely beats sitting in the dirt. It is robust enough for my weight and fits my body (although I am careful how I sit down - I don't flop into it). A fleece in the "headrest/carrying case" makes for a perfect sit. The only problem is that if I leave it, someone else sits in it immediately - and I have a hard time getting him/her out of it!
I bought this chair only a few days ago. It’s a bit pricey but after a few test ‘sits’ that felt really comfortable I decided to buy one. I’m 6’6 and about 250 lbs so definitely not the smallest guy around and this chair performs like a dream. I already tried it for several hours and no back pain or anything. Just pure comfort. As many taller people can testify most seats are to small and the back support usually gets uncomfortable because it just “supports” the wrong places since they tend to support your back to low. This chair how ever gives a good support for the entire back, no pinching at the shoulders or neck. Absolutely worth all 5 stars and the price tag.
I love this chair! The high back plus the case that attaches at head level (stuffed with one’s puffy jacket or the like) makes for a relaxing lounger after an active day. The height of the seat adds to the comfort, and it is much easier to rise from a seated position - especially when one’s body has clocked several decades. This deluxe chair is not much heavier, nor does it pack much larger, than my tiniest low chair, thanks to high quality materials. Worth the price.
This chair rocks... well sort of. We bought these for the Nelsonville Ohio Music Festival and couldn't have been happier with what we got. They unfold and setup in half a minute or less and only take slightly longer to break down. They are small and light while packed, they allow you to cruise thru Security easily, they support your head and neck, they are comfortable, and if you groove to the music while seated you can easily get a little rocking going in this chair! The storage bag that turns into a pillow (with your added jacket) is just like icing on the cake. We were asked multiple times where these chairs came from. Maybe REI will give us a cut of the membership fees??? Oh, sorry, you will have to hold your drink in your hand.
I am a senior citizen who likes to attend outdoor events but hate carrying those heavy awkward folding chairs and was looking for something small and lightweight to carry - this fits the bill perfect. Reasonably comfortable considering its size and I definitely will need to use the stuff bag (velcro attach) with a towel or something for a pillow to hold my head comfortable. Have not yet used this outside as spring is slow to arrive in upstate New York. Sets up and repacks easily.
I carried this chair in my daypack around West Virginia hills and mountains for six days, and found it to be my most appreciated piece of gear. All I needed to sit in complete relaxation was 90 seconds and a firm piece of ground to set the chair legs on. Whether taking a mid-day break, sitting out a storm in a shelter, or relaxing at the end of an eight to ten mile day, I loved having this chair with me. I’m over 6’3”, and I could lean back and take a nap! While I haven’t decided if will carry this in my full pack for long trips, I’m thinking about when I might want to. There have been many times that I have wished that I had such a chair vs. a foam sit pad. I’ll continue to evaluate my trips individually, but whenever I can take this piece of comfort and luxury with me, I will.
Its screen appearance may not knock you over, but its comfort and convenience certainly will. First off is the comfort. Last Saturday my wife and I were seated in these for much of a reunion. Everyone else was in traditional camp chairs. After about 30 minutes. We were very comfortable; they were clearly not. 2nd, you're carrying around an 18" roll. I fit two into the front trunk of my Can-Am Spyder. 3rd, there's no way to screw up putting your chair together, even with no directions. Yes, it does look a little comical, but people are soon impressed that such a small package can easily sit someone of 300 lbs. 4th, it sits a bit higher than most of the super-portable chairs, meaning that you'll be close to eye level with everyone else. What's not to like?
