My wife has the "60L" from a few years back. Best all around travel bag ever in my opinion! I bought the "55L" for myself this year. I read the reviews and saw the comments about the re-labeling/correcting of the volumes with this year's model. Here are some pictures of the bags side by side stuffed for a winter weekend overnighter - each topped off with a king sized pillow from our bed. My wife's is the smaller red 60L from before and mine is the current LARGER 55L from this year. This larger bag will be pushing it as a carry-on, but I think it will comply. The previous 60L model was the perfect carry-on size. The review would have been 5 stars if the sizing wasn't confusing, but the quality is everything you would expect from this company. I realize Patagucci is doing the right thing by specifying the sizing more accurately.

straps tore

I brought this bag with me to the Amazon and wore it like a backpack through the airports and light walking. Brought a separate backpack for my jungle hiking. DO NOT WEAR LIKE A BACKPACK! It is uncomfortable and saggy and one of the straps tore within the first week which really isn’t the most convenient when you’re in the middle of a rainforest.

Perfect carry-on bag/backpack for flights

I previously purchased the 45L Black Hole bag as it was the "maximum" size for carry-on for most airlines, but was always wanting just a bit more room for longer trips. Slightly annoyed that people always seemed to get away with bringing on full-size luggage, i opted for the 55L for my last trip and I'm glad i did. Fully stuffed, it made it through security with no issues and still had enough room to fit in the overhead bin. A simple bag with one external pocket and one mesh pocket on the inside, with durable construction and comfortable shoulder straps. I can't recommend this bag enough. Still larger than what most airlines "allow," but I'm pretty confident it won't be an issue for future flights.

Works as a Carry On!

I bought this bag several months ago and held off writing a review until I'd used it a few times. The main thing I wanted to know when I purchased the 55L (since I already had the 70L) was whether it would qualify as a carry-on bag at the airport. Good news - it does! You're going to have this on your back in line at security, and you'll be looking around at everyone else's bag thinking: Surely my bag is much bigger than all these standard roller bags. Am I fooling myself? Did the lady reviewing this bag lie to me? You'll get to the security belt and it will *barely* fit into the tray some airports make you put it in. You'll panic slightly, like I did the first two times I traveled with it. I have traveled both Delta and Southwest with this bag and was able to fit it in the overhead compartment on all the planes. On some planes (737-800 and 737-MAX8) the bag slides in skinny side/handle-side out as shown in my picture, and on others (737-700) I had to turn it sideways with the longer side facing out. Bottom line - it fit and I didn't have to check it. This bag is comfortable to wear even if you have a long walk through the airport and fits a ton of stuff. The only downside for me when comparing this bag to a traditional roller bag is that when I'm carrying this bag on my back, I have to carry my backpack over one shoulder.

Designed to last and holds a lot!

I have used this duffel only a few times but it is built very well and seems like it will last a long time. The materials are heavy duty and well thought out. I compared it to other duffles and overall, this one is better built and heavier duty. When it gets dirty, it can just be wiped off with a damp towel. The only minor down side to the bag design would be when it is being used as a backpack. If it is loaded up, then the duffel rides low on the back and it sags. There is no way to compress or redistribute the load higher on your back. I do realize that it is designed for quick short travel from car to boat or through an airport and not designed as a backpack. So when I use it as a backup, it frees up my hands for other items. Overall, I like the bag very much. I would not hesitate to purchase it again.

Durable, holds a lot

I was hesitant to join the masses who love the black hole duffels, but I finally caved and it's great. I stuff so much in this 55L bag, for car camping or ski weekends, etc. It's water resistant, so your stuff won't get soaked on the tarmac when bags are being moved into/out of a plane too, which has definitely happened to me before with previous bags. The backpack straps are easy to attach, and it folds into the front pocket (which is a magical pocket that can be accessed from inside and outside the bag!). I really like it, and there are lots of loops to attach things to the outside of the bag too.

No going back now

My new go to travel bag. Great for airplanes (I wear it as a carry-on) and perfect for car camping. Outer is tough and keeps dirt, dust, and anything else out. Backpack straps are comfortable, though a chest strap would've been a welcome addition. While not lacking space inside, there isn't any division other than one mesh zipper pocket on the other side of the top zip, so packing cubes would pair well. I haven't had any issues with the bag retaining shape when it's not entirely full. Really like using it and glad I picked one up!

Great for any trip, and easy to store

The Black Hole duffel can do ANYTHING. I've used it for ski trips, weekend getaways with friends, and even some longer trips. The waterproof exterior is wonderful, especially when you're sitting on a plane and watching them leave the luggage out in the rain on the tarmac. It's so nice to know my stuff inside is still dry. The backpack straps are very handy, and I love that the bag folds down into a very small cube for storage, and unlike many other "foldable" products I've had, folding the Black Hole duffel is simple and quick. This is one of my all-time favorite gear purchases.

the bag you didn't know you needed

I have a metric ton of duffle bags that have been given to me over the years so I was a bit skeptical about the black hole but it was worth every penny. I bought the 40l first because of the way it packed up. I travel a lot for work and it packs up small enough for me to throw in a suitcase in case I buy something while I'm out that would put me over the weight limit I can check a Second bag instead of paying over weight fee. it fast became my go to overnight bag instead and is the perfect size for weekend trips. my wife liked it so much I bought her a 55l and once the color I like is back in stock I'll buy one for myself too. it is still a duffle bag so I don't expect it to hold up like my hard luggage but for the price it's a great piece. 5 stars all day!!

Great Bag, Where is the shoulder strap?

I have a 45L and a 55L Black Hole Duffel. The 45L is a few years older, has backpack straps, front handle straps, and you can swap in a nice long sling strap, perfect for a duffel! I thought this would be the same. It does have the backpack straps, and the front top handle straps, but no long sling strap? Using a single backpack strap works ok I guess, but I would sure have preferred the single shoulder sling. Other than that same great quality.

Perfect size and keeps your stuff nice and dry.

A most excellent bag for travel. I took this bag on a 2 week trip to Europe that involved planes, trains, taxis, boats, and even helicopters and it was a delight. Given the ground we covered, I had to pack for hot/dry and cold/wet climates and had plenty of room for everything i needed. My fragile items came back safely and everything stayed dry despite some walking in the rain. Much easier than a roller bag and it fit in the overhead bins on several airlines so I never had to check it making it that much easier to travel with.
