I bought a pair of Prana Olivia shorts and fell in love with them and decided to jump on the Prana boat and snag a pair of Halle pants when they were on sale! I am a size 6 in most things, 158 lbs, and 5’6. I have some COVID body fat that isn’t unusual and for the most part, still have a relatively athletic frame. To my dismay, they gave me a HUGE camel toe and no amount of stretching or pulling helped, even though I had underwear on. On top of that, they are much lower rise than I expected which is fine but my butt was not fine. I don’t even have much of a butt, it’s just muscle so I imagine anyone with a more muscular or bigger butt will find these pants uncomfortable and snug in the wrong areas. I wanted to love these pants and even contemplated just keeping them but for how much they cost (even on sale), I’m gonna have to try something else. Sad because the material feels fantastic for what I wanted to do (early morning summer hikes) but alas, I know I won’t feel comfortable walking 8+ miles in these (which I’ve done fine with the Olivia shorts, also a size 6!) I hope this reviews helps someone on the fence!
These pants do not match the photo or the description. Everyone talking about the tiny front pockets is completely accurate, these things are pathetic. In my photo, my fingers are touching the bottom of the pocket. The legs are not straight-cut, they're like the most unflattering middle ground between boot cut and flared, and the inseam is weirdly short for "regular" length (I'm 5'8"). Additionally, these are what I would describe as "low-rise". When I tried to sit, my underwear was totally visible and the fabric of the shallow front pockets would pooch outward. The sizing was also poor in my experience: I'm one of those "in-between sizes" and these were just slightly too tight at size 12, but I suspect the 14 would be too big. Is it really so hard to find an additional product model that meets the size range of the average American woman? Two thirds of women in America are size 12 and above, so it's frustrating for outdoor clothing companies to continually fail to provide adequate clothing for us. I'm returning these because they do not work for me at all.
I really liked how relaxed and fitted the pants felt once I put them on. I also like the small side zipper pocket where I placed my pocket knife. The only dislike was the small pockets because my cell didn't fit completely. I plan to do a review on my Instagram ileanag19 for the pants.
My boyfriend got the Prana Zion pants and loved them so I decided to try out these since they are the women's version. Like everyone else, I was disappointed to find the pockets are tiny, I don't think I could securely keep my airpods case in those pockets. The thigh zip pocket is vertical and too small for most phones which makes no sense because things will fall out as soon as you unzip it. The thigh area of the Halle pants MUCH tighter than the men's version which doesn't make any sense since women usually have thicker thighs. I tried on the Zion and they fit me much better and have gigantic pockets so I'll probably just go with those.
Honestly, what body type(s) were these pants tested on? Certainly not mine. I'm a lifter, runner, and overall bigger woman and a 12 couldn't get past my thighs. A 14 fit after cinching the drawstring. The crotch is very short and poofs out creating a weird unappealing camel toe effect that luckily can be hidden with a long shirt. When sitting for long periods of time the crotch bunches weirdly and the seam pushes tightly against the body in a *very* uncomfortable manner. The pockets, as previously mentioned, are tiny and useless. The only reasons I didn't immediately return these was they were on sale and I only need them for the occasional work survey or hiking trip.
I originally bought the size 6 because my measurements fall right in line with the listed sizing. They were WAY too big and too long. I returned them for a size 4 short and they were perfect! (return process in the time of COVID could be difficult, but customer service was amazing!!) These pants are so comfortable and don't restrict movement at all. I can wear them to work and look businessy and then work out in the field trudging in the mud. 5'2" 118lbs athletic build. I usually wear a 0-2 in other brands, so don't be put off that you order a bigger size...the numbers are arbitrary. These are great hiking pants!
These are my go-to pants for both hiking and climbing. I love that the vertical zipped pocket on the thigh lets me climb with my phone in my pocket without having to worry about it falling out no matter what. They're tight-fitting enough to be flattering, but loose and breathable enough to be comfortable. The material and design are not overly "athletic-looking" in my opinion, which makes them great for wearing out and about too. The snaps on the side to secure the cuffs into place after rolling them up make the pants even more versatile. But please for the love of god stop designing women's pants with useless pockets. I don't even think I could comfortably fit a tube of chapstick in the front pockets of these pants. We're beyond over it.
I love how comfortable these pants are. The flax color is amazing and the straighter style is perfect for both trail and town. My only complaint is the utterly pointless front pockets. They are so small, why even bother. I am not sure what if anything could be stored in them. It’s too bad the men’s pants have useful pockets, I’m not sure why prana thinks women shouldn’t have functional pockets. If it is a detail to help them lay flat then just get rid of the all together. Anyhow, everything else about the pants is great, especially the comfort.
Great fabric and modern leg shape. Probably the cutest hiking pants I've come across in terms of aesthetics. Wish I could rate this as a 3.5 instead of 3. Unfortunately, I was not thrilled with the overall fit of this product and have to return. Rise is fairly low and uncomfortable (cuts in at the bum and crotch area). Waistband is too straight (would have preferred it to be contoured). Pockets gape. If you have a slightly longer torso from belly button to crotch area and have more of an hourglass shape, than these might be a challenging fit for you.
Stretches where it needs to stretch, and doesnt get in the way. SUPER durable. Is able to handle knee bars and slab falls. Highly recommend straight cuts for climbing.
