I work outside for a living, so I need boots that are waterproof, tough, and long-lasting. While these boots are admittedly comfortable, after just one month of wear the front of the boots (on both the right and left side of the toes) began to rip. After two months, the top sides are almost completely opened up to the elements, with no reason beyond daily wear. Very disappointed in Keen for this poor of a product. I expected better.
This is my first Keen product ever purchased and I am very impressed! Out of the box they are comfortable and there is no need to break them in. I purchased them for fishing and hiking, but to see if they would work for long periods of time on my feet, I wore them to work and I was not disappointed. I was a little worried about the waterproofing system and my feet being too hot, but on a 97 degree day my feet were not too hot at all. There is a lot of cushioning and firm support at the same time, which is great! I tried a Keen Venture as well, and though I like the styling on the Venture better, the Explore were by far more comfortable and the waterproofing was a huge bonus for fishing and hiking across streams. Keen, you have a new happy customer!
The boots are comfortable, but the material quality is not up to Keen standards. I received these boots for a birthday gift in May of 2020 and in five months of weekend use only the material at the toes on both boots is starting to split. While not as bad as another reviewer, a weekend boot should not be falling apart after only 5 months.
These are not waterproof at all. I bought them for the occasional rainy commute on an electric bicycle which has full fenders. After one 30 minute ride, even with rain pants generously overlapping the top of the boots, my socks were soaked top and bottom. These were new, with only about 2-3 dry walking miles on them.
I work as an ecologist and have worn these all season. They are comfortable and have fantastic grip for steep topography. Love these boots.
