More PSI per Dollar
The base is super stable and has grip tape for your feet, the gauge is huge and legible, the handle is comfortable, and it gets my road bike tires from 80 to 100 psi in two pumps. The nozzle has virtually no pressure bleed during attachment/detachment. I can't imagine what the pumps that cost twice as much could possibly do better. I have only tested this on Presta valves. I cannot speak to performance with Schrader valves.
Other reviews here are right, this is a great pump
I bought this based on the positive reviews. Negative reviews steered me away from other models. Appreciate REI's letting us post honest reviews here. The Bontrager Floor Pump is one of the nicest pumps I've ever used. Inflates smoothly. LOVE the large pressure gauge, which is really easy to read even though it's placed at floor level. The nozzle is narrow with a single hole for both presta and schrader (i inflated prestas) which will come in handy when space is tight inflating car and wheelbarrow tires. This pump sort of transforms the chore of inflating your tires into a pleasure.
Couldn't be easier to use
I'm an 80 year old cyclist who rides a minimum of 20 miles 5X per week so this pump gets a work-out. It is easy to work with and does everything the more expensive pumps do - but for less.
Better on Presta than Schrader
The only bikes we had at the time were Schrader valves, and this pump failed to fully open the valve 60% of the time, requiring re-attaching. However, my new bike has Presta valves and this pump has worked perfectly with them each time. If all you have are Schrader, I'd recommend trying something else. Otherwise its a really solid pump.
Does not reliably connect to Schrader valves
I've experienced the same disappointment as others when using the dual-valve system. This well works for Presta, but Schrader fails to connect when the stem is short — a common issue on kids' bikes.
Works well on Presta
I went through 2 hand pumps and a pressure gauge that were supposed to be Presta compatible, and some Presta to Schader adapters. I couldn't get a pressure reading on those, and only one pump worked to fill my tires (a Bontrager hand pump). This worked flawlessly right away. Put it on the open Presta valve, got a real pressure reading, and filled it to the pressure needed for my tires with ease.
gets the job done
Yeah, it’s not as fast as the more expensive models, but it gets the job done and the quick-change nozzle is great.
pressure gauge stopped working
got this from REI, used it once and following which the pressure gauge stopped working. pump is still functional but it defeated the purpose for which i bought one
Guage stopped working right away
This was a terrible purchase. The pump is months old and has only been used a handful of times and was stored and kept clean and never banged or dropped. Yet, the guage stopped working almost instantly. The point of paying this much was for the guage and it's useless in that regard.
Fill’er up!
Easy to use for a 5’3” 166lb woman. I am strong, but couldn’t fill my tires on my own with my old pump. This one I can do on my own!
