Love, love, love this
I use a carabiner to carry my keys, so when I saw this firebiner I bought it immediately. Absolutely love this - lightweight, durable, sparks well & comes with extra Ferri rods. Major props to whoever came up with this. Must have for campers & those who like to go in the woods.
Super Cool
Let's be honest.. I mostly bought this because it looks really cool! The blade works great and can be removed for future sharpening. No idea if they sell replacement razors for it. The bottle opener works. The screwdriver is meh, the nub could be longer. Thr spark wheel is awesome and makes big sparks! My only issue is the slots at the bottom aren't that big for your key rings. Putting rings on the actual carabiner is clunky. If you have a lot of keys you'll want something else, but I'm ok minimizing to have a sweet looking tool.
Good sparks make fire starting easy
Gave the firebinder to one of our Scouts to get a fire started, sparks up really well, she had a little problem due to how windy was, but a second try with a cotton ball covered in petroleum jelly had a fire going after three strikes. Our Scouts gave the striker five stars. The cutting blade worked well on string and fishing line, how ever we could not get through 550 para cord, and with such a small opening you are really limited on what you can cut with it. Over all everyone likes the look of the firebiner, and it held up to a weekend of use, is small and light weight and has worked well for clipping items on to packs.
Love this little gadget!
I bought one of these to fill my cart for free shipping and when it arrived, I found it to be a pretty cool little gadget. I loved playing with it before taking out for a full test run. Outdoor Element makes several different tinders to go with this guy and I bought three of them to see how well my firebiner would light the different tinders. I did try to light my camp stove with it but the spark wasn't enough to get it going. It did quite well with the birds nest type tinder they sell, it's actually a combo of shaved wood and wax. It burned long enough to get my wet wood started. I was pleased with that. Some other cool features, if you're going fishing, there is a handy little knife on there to cut your line when throwing a fresh fly on, the screwdriver comes in handy as well. I haven't tried the bottle opener but I'm sure that will come in handy too. It throws a nice spark so having some quick start tinder along will definitely help. I liked this gadget so much that I bought two more and gave them as gifts!
Opens the Bear Vault with Ease
Took this on the JMT recently and found the screwdriver head extremely helpful in opening my BV500 lid, especially during cold mornings when the plastic is stiff. Just place the head of the screwdriver on the locking nub and press in while turning. No need to use the credit card trick. The striker produces a large windproof spark that easily lit my backpacking stove. I found it easier to remove the pot from the burner before lighting the stove. Overall, it's a handy little tool that you may want to consider adding to your kit. Is it necessary? No. Is it neat to have? Absolutely.
Most engineered carabiner I have seen!
This is the best carabiner I have owned. It is super lightweight yet strong as heck! I now use it as my daily key ring and got a second for my pack. I use the seatbelt cutter for fishing line all the time and it still may save my life too lol! Confirmed it works after a dunking and in high wind as a sparker. I cant say enough about this little thing! Thanks Outdoor Element for over engineering this product for me!
Handy tool to snap to your pack!
I purchased this as I have lost my share of ferro rods by laying them down and them magically disappearing (lol). I figured I would buy this and just snap it to my bag and use it to hang my crocs from it. It sparks easy enough and I have been able to light my mini stove from it. I have not tried it yet with my homemade fire-starting (lint/wax), but I am sure it would catch easy enough. What really give this 5 stars is the customer service. I like to know how to fix things should I need to (this comes with 2 extra ferro rods). Their website has videos on how to take out the set screw and replace it. When I tried to remove set screw, it was literally stuck in there. Finally got it moving and it was a struggle to get out. Once I had it out, the set screw would not go back in. I contacted Outdoor Element and provided pictures to show the issue I had. They were very understanding and the next day they had already shipped me a replacement. Great Customer Service. While I hope I do not lose this one, it I do - I know I will buy another.
Handy striker.
I use this to start my fires on my alcohol, white gas and canister stoves and it works great. Nice spark (make sure you hold it the right way since the wheel only produces sparks in one direction). With the carabiner design, it easy to clip it anywhere, making it harder to lose. Nice design.
Don't spend time outdoors without this!
I love this firebiner! I own several, and keep one permanently attached to my backpacking stove. I never have to have the unfortunate experience of wet, dysfunctional, or forgotten matches again! The spark wheel works perfectly, and the firebiner comes with two extra ferro rods in the package. I also love the screw driver head, small blade, and bottle opener, all of which have been very useful at various times. Plus, since it's a carabiner, I can use it to attach stuff to my pack, hang things in camp, etc. I also use one for my everyday key chain, and it has come in handy so many times! It has a small profile, so it's not bulky in your pocket, but it's sturdy (holds up to 100lbs). Trust me, you need one, and so do all your outdoor-loving friends and family. I can't say enough good things about it!
Useful Gadget
Not really sure why I bought this item, but it turned out to be a good buy! The striker ignites my GSI Glacier camp stove with ease as well as firestarter. Easy clips onto pack for storage, keyring holes could be better
