Great locking action and wear life
This is my go-to belay and rappelling carabiner. I only have about 6 months of once-weekly use on mine so far, mostly belaying, but it barely shows. The locking action is smooth, snappy, and easy to work with one hand, and has never jammed for me. The wire gate is strong and easy to operate, keeps the carabiner right where I want it, and fits a heavy duty belay loop or two rings of my Metolius PAS 22 for a redundant extended rappel setup. See the reviews of the screwgate version for a great photo of the wear on one used heavily for rappelling.
The ferrari of carabiners
This is the only carabiner that I use to belay. I use this carabiner with my bd pilot. This carabiner is exactly what I want in a carabiner. I like the stainless-steel plate to prevent damage from the rope rubbing against the carabiner. I like the triple auto locking mechanism for added safety and speed. I like the belay loop clip to prevent cross loading. Lastly, the HMS profile makes this carabiner great to pair with geometry assisted devices, like the pilot. I am one of few people at my gym that used the pilot. I occasionally get requests from people to try my setup. Regardless of whether or not the people liked using the pilot, every single one of them loved the carabiner. In short, I love everything about this carabiner. The only gripe I have is the price. Pushing $40 on a carabiner is a little bit steep. I would feel a lot better paying in the $27-30 range. However, now that I have bought one and used it, I wouldn't feel too bad about buying another, even at full price.
Your Bulletproof with this one! “CLIMB-ON”
My alpine choice paired with ATC-Pro Guide belay/rappel device. Tether to your harness. Hang yo der·ri·ère off da edge with safety! Safety inspires confidence. Confidence climbs mountains conquers risk, makes life fun! Excellent choice; quality build, design & function. You will like the gate plus no cross loading. It’s worth the price for your safety. Carabiner has the cool factor, designer color, add to your rack.
Bomber!
Don't let the one star review deter you from buying one of the bulletproof carabiners. First off, there is no need to use a gri gri for this device. The rope has zero contact with the the carabiner itself if you use an auto locking device such as the gri gri, cinch, etc. which defeats the purpose of having a steel insert for rope wear and tear. I've used mine with an atc and I love it! With that being said, rappelling, belaying ( with atc) , top roping all make sense with a carabiner like this. The price is a bit high so that's why I gave it 4 stars.
Great for Sport Climbing
I'm going to heavily disagree with the one star review here. I've been using this carabiner as my go to and only carabiner with my Petzl GriGri for a while. I climb 5+ days a week in the gym and outdoors whenever I have a free weekend, and this carabiner has held up very well to the use and still looks fairly new. The spring loaded gate is easy to use, and I suggest attaching it to your belay loop first before loading the rope in the GriGri and attaching it to your carabiner. In my experience, that makes it most easy to position the spring bar with your belay loop inside and then the GriGri and rope where it should be. It's very intuitive and easy to use, and has prevented my carabiner from cross-loading or sliding around (which makes lead belaying smoother, imo). Plus, the blue is a nice color, though gear color/appearance doesn't matter much to me. If you're looking for a new carabiner for sport climbing, this is by far and away my favorite.
Excellent belay and rappel biner
Only buy this biner if you want something super bomber that won't wear out anytime soon. I was using Magnetrons before this but the aluminum would always wear from rapelling and lowering and left me with an insecure feeling looking down at a worn biner, especially while rappelling. Hundreds of rappels later this thing shows hardly any signs of wear. What's a little extra money and weight when it's your life?
Great locking carabiner
I use this to belay with my Mammut Smart 2.0 device. The smooth upper corner is not only wear resistant, but adds a bit of smoothness to a lead belay. The two-action unlock (up and turn) adds an extra layer of safety over some of my other lockers (turn only). Great, innovative carabiner is worth the high price.
One of the best for indoor and outdoor climbing
Works great, very good for station and top rope
Highly Recommend.
Works great. It's now my favorite peice of climbing equipment.
Not for GriGri user
My intention when buying is preventing crossload for my grigri. But after 2-3 times used, because of the thickness of the carabiner it caused gri gri jam into it during belay, I think it would be nice for other purpose just not with gri gri
